BREAKING NEWS: Impeachment Inquisition Update

Well, it looks like the Democrats have finally have Donald Trump right where they want him.

Federal judge sides with Congress in legal fight over Trump’s financial records

A federal judge sided with a Democratic-controlled congressional committee on Monday, ordering President Trump’s accounting firm to comply with a subpoena and turn over his long-sought financial records.

“It is simply not fathomable that a Constitution that grants Congress the power to remove a President for reasons including criminal behavior would deny Congress the power to investigate him for unlawful conduct — past or present — even without
formally opening an impeachment inquiry,” U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta wrote in a lengthy opinion Monday afternoon.

Before boarding Marine One for a campaign rally in Pennsylvania Monday night, the president said the decision was “crazy” and “totally wrong.” His attorney, Jay Sekulow, said he “will be filing a timely notice of appeal” with the court.

Democrats say that if Trump tries to use the appeal process to delay compliance until after the election they have a special plan to fast-track the case.

  1. Myiq2xu™ says:

Assuming that the Democrats manage to keep control of the House next year, the Democrat strategy should come to fruition sometime in 2021 or 2022, at which time a couple moving vans full of financial records will be delivered to Elijah Cumstain’s front lawn. The Democrats will have to hire an accounting firm to review all those records.

That review should be completed in 2023, at which time the Democrats will announce that they couldn’t find anything in the records but they will be impeaching Trump anyway.

    • DeniseVB says:

Sekulow’s’ already filed an appeal, and if it ends up in the Supreme Court, Jay has won a bunch of cases there too. 😀

  2. Ann says:

The appeal was filed this morning by the Trump team.

Cummings may have bigger problems with his own finances than “getting Trump’s finances”.

  3. Alessandro Machi says:

Trump argued during the Debates that anything he did regarding his taxes was also being done by other wealthy people. It’s an interesting argument. That excuse does not apply when a motorist gets a speeding ticket and tries to argue they were going with the flow of traffic, but these are rich, wealthy people and their attorneys get to create new rules.

    • Anthony says:

Using the perks of existing tax laws is not illegal, dumbass. If you and your party really want to make a difference, change the existing laws instead of pissing away tax dollars on witch hunts.

      Oh – Almost forgot… GFYS

    • DeniseVB says:

Liberal Billionaire Mark Cuban came out against releasing the Trump taxes because corporate taxes are very complicated for the average peon to understand. Tax incentives and write-offs are important to developers in creating jobs and structures that bring in more jobs. Though nobody questions that little goofy AOC and her union pals for bullying Amazon out of NYC ? That lost potentially billions for the city and her citizens. Sad.

      • Ann says:

Once upon a time Hubby and I paid yearly taxes in 20+ different states, plus to the feds. This was on real estate holdings. I can tell you that some years we wrote huge checks (like crazy-huge) to the IRS, and Uncle Sam didn’t give a shit if we made money or not, they wanted what they said we owed. There are also years where we have had large depreciation credits and owed zero. Note that even in the years where we technically owed the IRS nothing, it did/does not mean the same is happening on a state level.

If our little real estate holdings yield such a complicated return, I cannot imagine what President Trump’s returns look like. There is no way the “average American” can understand a real estate investors tax return at a glance. Hell, most tax attorneys and CPAs couldn’t without studying them (that is why people have dedicated CPAs and tax attorneys when their holdings are enormous. Heck, on our little holding we have never done our own taxes – too complicated).

This is purely a political move to scream “HE DOESN’T PAY TAXES” by cherry-picking years while ignoring that the Federal Government ALWAYS gets their $$. It may not be today, but you can be certain the Feds will eventually get their money.

Weren’t you living in Cali when they started the train to nowhere ? I always wondered why they just didn’t plan a L.A. to Vegas route. Amtrak already fed trains into LA along the west coast and what a fun way to do Vegas! We always went about once a year the 6 years we lived there, either by car or flying. A train would have been awesome ! The boys were so young, and Circus, Circus was the perfect hotel, an overnight babysitter was only $20, then we could drop them off in the hotel daycare center (FREE FOR GUESTS !) and go back to bed. Good times 🙂

      • Myiq2xu™ says:

Passenger rail terminates at Bakersfield. You have to take a bus to Barstow, then take a train to Vegas.

        • DeniseVB says:

I did San Diego to Ventura in the 70’s. I’m sure Amtrak probably has an eastern route by now. I was thinking a bullet train to Vegas would be more profitable than the Valley trains?

      • helenk3 says:

when I first transferred to California I traveled on #36 from Chicago to Los Angeles. It had a stop at Vegas and ran daily. Do not know why Amtrack cut the train, the LA to Vegas part always had passengers. They could have kept that part running and made a profit.
I always want to start a private railroad between the two cities and have shuttles to the different hotels meet the train at the station. I wanted to called it the High Roller Express.

Not Anthony..:>) but FWIW, Al and I got back from bumming around Manhattan and Brooklyn for six days; stayed in Mid-Town across from Penn. Station. Al goes to NYC about 2x per year for New York Road Runners races, usually with her mom. This time I went with her for the Brooklyn half-marathon. I haven’t been to stay in NYC for quite awhile, so with all of the talk about DiBlasio turning it into a shit hole, I didn’t have high expectations. I was surprised:
    1) much less homeless on streets and sub-way stations than I expected, subways are clean with only a few crazies.
    2) streets and sidewalks aren’t in great shape but considering the number of people and traffic, the streets are clean and air quality is excellent.
3)considering the huge number pf people on the streets, especially during the week, people are friendly, well behaved and just going about their business.
4)At least in Manhattan, if you can’t walk for multiple blocks and navigate subway station stairs, you are pretty well screwed. People on the streets are in pretty good shape and significant obesity in uncommon (and so are physically impaired people).
5)Cultural/sociological observation (small sample size) but we went to Natural History Museum, Planetarium, The Met, New York City Ballet, etc. and there was a very high percentage of Asians at these sites, essentially the visitors were White and Asian, and very rare African America, ie. at the Ballet, ~30% Asian and one African American mother and daughter

    • DeniseVB says:

You do NYC right ! There is a fabulous annual 6k Walk/Run every April to raise funds for the 9-11 Memorial Museum. I did it 2 years ago and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life (ok, I walked it 😉 ) Only $35 entry, but gots me a $50 Abercrombie&Fitch shirt, buckets of discount coupons from the sponsors in a swag bag that doubled as a clear backpack, free fruit at the start and a complimentary breakfast biscuits at the finish. The route starts at Pier 46(?) and wraps around the lower west side along the Hudson and Battery Park and ends at the new Tower and memorial fountains/museum. FDNY fire boats giving us the Honor Spray from the river, and NYPD handing out water along the route, priceless. They kept saying thank you, and I argued with them, NO, THANK YOU !!! For that day, it’s free admission to the museum, but I passed.

I asked why this isn’t done around 9-11 ? Nope, this is for fun and raising money to keep the memory alive. And fun it was ! I stayed at the Trump SoHo, so I could walk to the start, and walk back from the finish. I probably did 12 miles total that day 😀

Tent cities everywhere (mostly near highways), RV’s parked permanently for blocks and blocks on streets. I am in these cities daily/weekly it is so spectacularly horrifying and completely ubiquitous – you find yourself becoming numb to it, pretending it’s just the norm, nothing you can do.

I don’t know about SF and Nor Cal, but given what I see DAILY, I have to assume it’s accurate.

Dishonorable mention; Vegas. It’s always had a seedy underbelly, but this city too has public tent cities near highways – not so much near the strip – but if you go to ‘Old Town’ (Fremont Street, Golden Nugget area) when you pull off the freeway you are dumped right into a tent city where you can see families living in tents next to each other like they are in public housing… tents wide open like you’re staring in their living rooms… so shocking, sad, maddening, angering, verge of tears… multimillion dollar towers all around, new buildings going up left and right -AND- homeless people giving each other back rubs in a tent under the desert sun.

        Sin City indeed.

Yesterday da brat took a lot of uncalled for abuse from a coach. Screamed at her. She is not the kind of kid you yell at. No angel, but close. The tears. Told it was fine if she chose to stop playing. We spoke about it at length. Her decision. I can see H.S. Putting extra pressure, but this is summer and she is in 7th. Her choice. She hit three triples and pitched tonight. The coach was more than informed it will not be tolerated. Sucks that an adult would behave like that, but she wants to compete and she’ll see worse if she continues. Her choice. Would have been easy to stop playing.
