Shut Up About Politics

Country singer John Rich wrote a song titled “Shut Up About Politics. He performed it live on The Five. Now Twitter has decided it’s dangerous.

This may sound strange coming from a political junkie, but a lot of people in this country need to shut up about politics.

Celebrities are at the top of that list. Being an actor does not give you license to be a drama queen. I want to be able to watch television and movies, listen to music, or enjoy a ball game without being force-fed someone’s political views. I want to see Matt Damon act and not have to be reminded of his odious ideology. If I wanted lectures on morality I would go to church.

I’m not talking about movies and songs with a political message. If you make a political movie or song you run the risk of having it bomb. I’m talking about when a celebrity makes it difficult/impossible to enjoy a non-political song because of who is singing it.

Another group that needs to shut up about politics are teachers. You are supposed to teach your students, not indoctrinate them.

Last but not least, the haters need to shut up about politics. (This group includes a lot of teachers and celebrities.) If you can’t discuss politics without wanting to hurt anyone and everyone who disagrees with you then you need to shut up about politics. Find some other reason to hate people.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I just don’t want to hear them.

used to be you could discuss politics and then go have a drink together, now you need a flack jacket even among people that used to be friends. no mutual understanding allowed any more.

Someone stated that one of the rules of the sea is that the vessel on the right has the right of way. At night, the port side (left) shows a red light, and the starboard side (right) a green light, so if you see a green light, you go; if you see a red light, you yield.

That would put the U.S. vessel at fault.

Given that there have been a couple of fairly recent collisions where U.S. Naval vessels were at fault, this seems even more likely.

I just came from a check-up with the VA doctor. He thinks I’m doing pretty good. He gave me a referral to see a local podiatrist about some serious toenail fungus, but it has to be approved in Fresno.

    • helenk3 says:

really glad you are doing better.
strange thing, just about 1 hour ago I looked up cures for nail fungus for my neighbor. One thing the claimed really worked was a combo of Listerine gold, white vinegar and vicks. soak nail in equal combo of vinegar and listerine for 30 minutes. then at night put vicks on nail and wear a sock to help it absorb into nail. she is going to try it before spending a lot of money on advertised cures. I will let you know how it works

    • John Denney says:

Old guy at church once told me cheap white distilled vinegar works just fine to curb toenail fungus.

I put it in a spray bottle and now always hose my toes with it after I dry off after a shower, then step on the bath mat to let it absorb the excess. Cured a mild case I had, and haven’t had it since.

Works for jock itch, too, but burns like crazy at first.

Yeah, that’s why you refused to talk to the cops investigating the shooting. That’s why you claimed it was justfiable homicide at your trial. That’s why you asked to serve just two weeks in a halfway house.

    • elliesmom says:

Yes, $11 million awarded in actual damages. The punitive damage phase of the trial to begin next week. Raimondo accountable for libel. The award could go as high as $33 million. I wish the verdict had happened when the students were around to hear it. It’s not that I want riots in the streets, but I’m afraid half the student body will be oblivious, and more important the message won’t get out to other students at other schools. I hope it will make schools rein in their SJWs, but I think this will pass largely unnoticed.

      • Myiq2xu™ says:

The students that caused the problem are probably graduated and gone by now. I’m referring to the protesters, not the shoplifters.

        • elliesmom says:

The shoplifter was 19 at the time of his arrest in November of 2016. . That would probably make him a sophomore. He should have just graduated unless he’s on the 5-year plan. Anyone who participated in the protest who was a freshman would be entering his senior year next fall so, yes, most of the kids who caused the hullabaloo have left the building. Oberlin has an endowment of over $700 million and an insurance policy so it’s unlikely this will raise tuition there, but if it does, the kids who will pay the increase had nothing to do with the protests.

    • SHV says:

$11 million and I bet, next week, they will hammer Oberlin with punitive damages. Perhaps the more important verdict with against POS Raimondo for libel. If these University diversity/student life, etc. flunkies are held personally accountable, a lot of this bullshit with stop. Hopefully she will get hit with a seven figure penalty.

I bet Oberlin’s insurance company will try to get out of paying. If Raimondo is financially hit, I suspect that the University will say it’s not their problem. I know when I was at a University, I was told that I was financially covered as long as my actions were within University guide lines and didn’t. for example, involve malice, etc.

      • lateblum says:

Last night I was out with friends and while we were talking, I mentioned this trial and verdict. Absolutely none of them had heard of this trial or the incident that led to it. So I talked about the initial crime and charges of “racism” from the shoplifters, as well as the subsequent riots, involvement of Raimondo, and the kids recanting their made up charges against the bakery. I then talked about the unexpectedly early verdict and that it went against Oberlin, everyone seemed pretty accepting of the dollar amount. When I mentioned the punitive damages would be determined next week, someone challenged the idea of punitive damages saying could bankrupt the college. I countered that the college has this $700M endowment fund and insurance. A friend said,”That endowment is for educating the students!!!” (This was odd coming from her. She is always complaining about Northwestern’s multi-billion $$ endowment.) I said, then maybe they should start educating the students rather than indoctrinating them and teaching them to lie, riot and resist.
That was the end of that conversation.

How about a old fashioned book?
We remember, one made out of paper printed with ink.

      • elliesmom says:

While I strongly support encouraging kids to read, short video clips that demonstrate an idea are a boon to teachers. Watching and listening to a famous speech as opposed to reading it comes to my mind. Plays are meant to be watched not read. A video of group feeding behavior in whales makes a much bigger impression than a paragraph in a science text describing it. People have the impression of a teacher turning on a video and the class going to sleep, but that’s what a bad teacher does, and those teachers don’t need a TV set or a computer screen to be bad teachers. While it’s too bad YouTube has done this, the one that burns me is how much PBS charges teachers for the rights to use things our tax dollars have paid for. At least anything produced by NASA or NOAA is in the public domain.

    Lucy, Lucy, Lucy
She is now Gracie. I had a Lucy when I was young. It didn’t seem to fit and she seems to like Grace.
Yesterday I got involved in what was close to an Amber alert. I took both mutts on an hour walk. I have an enclosed porch with a heavy glass storm door. I was taking off Bell’s harness. This six inch little beast body slammed the door and took off like a bat out of hell. She is chipped but we only had her for 12 hours. No tags. I spent three hours combing the streets. Up and down hills. Four of my neighbors buckled up and devoured the boro with eyes looking for her.
I was walking down the main strip. A sweet couple stopped me and asked if I had seen a beagle. They handed me a phone number. I don’t know how to resist being an asshole. I said give it a ring. My phone. They chuckled. Seriously though I was out the door chasing her within seconds. There is a dog walker in my hood. Stunning woman. She walks dogs. Nine years we have crossed the street from each other. Dog ettiquite . We smile and wave, but politely avoid each other. Nine years. Yesterday after a decade I learned her name. She saw me chasing a dog, whipped out her cell phone and sent out an “amber” alert.
Lucy/Gracie was picked up by this toxic masculinity ridden asshole. Such a jerk. He saw a small dog rambling near a highway. He is still a rapist. I do not care if he saw a tiny dog along a highway. He pulled over, collected her, drove her to a vets office. Nope. Asswipe refused a reward. That is white supremacy. This dude gave up a half a day to pick up a dog. We cannot let these men run around like that. So unfair to all of my memes. Have a fucking heart it takes a lot of energy to constantly be offended. White men being decent is offensive. They must yell f a g g o t and n i g g er at every turn
How do I get to be an extra in a Kafka film if you straight assholes pick up stray puppies and take them to a vet.
Fucking William. I have never been alone because he put pen to paper. I dallied in heroin way back. I spent hours with Lou Reed eating split pea soup in diners. Junk was never my thing. I am no prude. Heroin just did not possess me. I never shot but I did snort a ton. It was like thousands of pillows. Was not my thing. Who gets to move to New York and meet Jean Michelle Basquiat’s lovdr his first day.i was commuting from Philly to Hunter. I was in love with my best friend. I could not abandon her. So i lived and worked in Philly. I go big or go home. I did not just work in Philly. I did City Tavern. I wore colonia garb. One day my apartment burned down. I was so close to death. I wanted to crawl in a corndr and let it go. I heard a kid. My person became foreign. I did not make a decision. I just went to bat. That kid was getting out. Yes she did in my silly arms.
I lost everything. Next morning I had no shoes. I was numb. I had 50 dollars a uniform at work. I bought shoes on 103rd and socks from Payless. I was numb. I tried to go to work. That did not work out. I had been in an inferno.
I started walking I just kept walking. Up 9th Avenue. I had very healthy insursncd and some cash. I had lost everything. I didn’t even have a toothbrush. Liberty Travel. I walked in and said how much to London. She said when I said now. I flew out that day with a back pack. I chose London because I sort of speak the language. I had never been out of the country except for the freakshow in Canada. . You betcha my rents took me to all the faith healers. I have had hundreds of people speaking in tongues. Saint Ann’s in Canada. So much fun to be tossed around by zealots. I ain’t isn’t an aftet thought not dead. Who get’s what I have. Boo hoo i grew up poor. Worst heart in history. Big F D. We could scantly eat. My father took a part time job at a drive in. I saw everything. Sandy Duncan!!! The Cat From Outer Space. Who gets that? I sat on a roof eating hot dogs. My dad was a teen. He is my hero. There were rough times. Ugh who hasn’t been to hell?
We had a Toyota Corolla. Battery would not start. My father used a hair dryer. My dad. My dude.
