(hopefully) quick story. Wife was trying to find a mysterious 1st Cousin of her Dad’s that had just sort of remained aloof for 60+ years. Wife’s Dad just remembered visiting her and her husband one time as an adult. The Cousin lived in a relatively affluent home for the relatively impoverished city she lived in. Wife finds her husband is now retired, they have a daughter who finished with a degree in Russian Language at Columbia and the husband operates a “consulting” firm with his office in DC (though he resides in Mississippi) with a webpage promoting him as some sort of speaker. There are little inane quotes peppered on the webpage of the “boats weren’t made to sit in harbors”. Wife takes all this at face value until I look at the absurdity of this guy, who nobody has ever heard of, making a living giving some sort of motivational talks full of bullshit like “boats weren’t made to sit in harbors”.

Maybe he’s a lobbyist of some sort and Saunders money via speaking fees. Seems to work really well for some.

I’ve been told I am good at speeches, perhaps I should take up a new career…..A rolling stone gathers no moss, thank you very much….where’s my check 😂

So I had an eventful day……read shit day. Littlest grandchild is going through a bad phase where she won’t use the potty….rebellion or something, I don’t know none of my kids did anything like this. She goes off somewhere, squats and pisses on my floor. You have no idea how angry that makes me.

So this afternoon she pissed in the office/school room. I’m cleaning it up and I hear a fight ensue, then blood curdling screams and cries for help. I jump up and up. The oldest slammed the bedroom door on the youngest’s hand (fingers actually). The baby was screaming and begging her to open the door, but the oldest was holding it closed, until I got there and knocked it open.

The baby’s finger tips were already black and blue and swollen. The skin sheared off 2 of the fingers, nail beds are almost completely black. I iced her hand immediately, called my son and headed out for urgent care. Hours there, they wanted us to go to the ER at the children’s hospital in downtown JAX, but my son didn’t want to 🙄

All is well, nothing broken that they could find on x-ray. Don’t know about soft tissue. The urgent care place said there was nothing they could do with the skin because it needed to be glued and they only do stitches. She’s probably going to lose 2 of the nails, but they’ll grow back.

I’m exhausted and summer has only just begun. I may start day drinking. I’ve had outings or crafts planned everyday, but they still fight, get into stuff and trash my house. Maybe a boot camp kind of thing will wear them out……drop and give me 20 private 😂

    • elliesmom says:

I don’t have any suggestions other than finding a daycamp. Chirches usually run vacation Bible schools that are free or don’t cost much. No matter how you feel about religion, the stories the kids hear usually only teach subversive things like “Be kind”. If you shop around, there might be several offered on different weeks. I hope your grandie heals fast. There’s one thing you can count on, and that’s some sibling revenge at some time in the future.

      • swanspirit says:

GMTA, on the day camp. Even part time, a few days a week, or a few hours a day.

When my sister was 18 months old she got her left third finger, the ring finger, caught in a storm door closing, and it pulled the tip of her finger off. My stomach still churns, just remembering it. My mother, who couldn’t stand the sight of blood, couldn’t stop screaming, and finally a neighbor drove her and my sister to the local ER.
I found the finger, and threw it away, Someone, called from the hospital, and said get the part of her finger, wash it off and put it in a plastic bag.
I am 10 years older, than my sister, so there I was, 11 & 1/2, sorting through the trash for the tip of her finger. I found it, someone came and got it, took it to the hospital, and they sewed it back on! She has a little scar there.
You have a cool head in emergencies! You deserve a drink!🍸

        • Somebody says:

I generally do keep a cool head in emergencies, it all hits me sometime later.

I was super proud of myself yesterday. I have a medical POA for the grandkids. Usually I keep it in a folder in a file drawer in the office, so if I need it I have to go hunt thru the drawer……which drawer, where’s the file. I’ve only ever used it for routine check ups or testing so my son doesn’t have to burn leave.

I cleaned out the office (actually relocated it) about a month ago. While I was doing it I thought to myself that if I ever had an emergency it would suck to have to dig through file drawers. So I relocated it in a thin folder and stood it up in the mail divider by my front door.

Sooooo yesterday, boom ice, shoes, head to door, grab POA on way out, boom like 2-3 minutes backing out of driveway 😊

My own kids went to VBS a couple of times, I would have no problem with that except most have already happened. Our schools start summer the week before memorial day, most of the churches had VBS the past couple of weeks. The 3 biggest ones are doing it this week 🙄 I can’t recall any of them doing VBS outside of June.

Day camp is $$$. Cheapest one is $165 a week per child, but they are all day. My neighborhood used to sponsor a short day camp with different themes each week like tennis, golf, pottery, etc. It was only open to residents children or grandchildren. It was cheap too, like $25 to $35 per kid, subsidized by HOA. It ran from 9am to 2pm……I used to co-manage it with a friend of mine. Always included free time and free swim lessons, we paid a couple of instructors and always have a life guard on duty anyway.

When the old people took over the board they deep sixed all children activities and implemented adult only pool time (morning and evening), plus 15 minutes of every hour 🙄 Every hour on the hour a whistle blows and all children 18 and younger must exit the pool, so the assholes that really want to live in a retirement community but are too cheap or stupid to buy there can swim laps or whatever. I haven’t been to our pool in years, but when I did I’d purposely splash or jump in and fuck with the old farts, so did a lot of us 😂

Point being there is no day camp in our area that is affordable 😞 If there was, they’d be there with bells on 😂

        • Mt.Laurel says:

Is there a YMCA in the area? They used to offer day camps for more reasonable rates. Kids needed to brown bag lunch but they provided milk or juice and a snack.

    • mcnorman says:

Yikes! Bad accident. Lots of black and blue so watch her tips. I think you are describing degloving of the fingertips? Skin taken off like a glove? Glue? She will heal by secondary intention. Kids are absolute miracles when healing. Needless to say, these little events can easily lead one to a Motel 6 to take up drinking and chain smoking.

      • Somebody says:

Well I have the chain smoking down 😛 Yes, degloving sounds like what happened to her middle and ring fingers from the nail down just below the 1st knuckle, peeled the skin back 🙁 cuticle too 😖

        • mcnorman says:

Just don’t check into a Motel 6 for the weekend and all will be better soon. LOL

Poor baby, lots of time and tender care will heal the fingers.

Why was the debt collector suing “kids” for whom they have no docs about their purported debt ? They should be suing whoever sold them the loans that have no documentation. Or maybe they should just eat it because they didn’t perform “due diligence” before purchasing the loans.

What? They think these young people will just roll over and pay? Blood from a turnip? And how much do they have to pay lawyers to sue these “kids”?
