Calvin Coolidge was the first president my grandmother voted for. She slways said she was grateful her first opportunity to vote wasn’t wasted on a “dumb schmuck”. He remained her favorite president. While the rest of the family were yellow dog Democrats, she remained open to candidates from parties. She was convinced the country made a mistake choosing Kennedy over Nixon, and when Kennedy was asassinated, I overheard her say, “I guess someone agrees with me.” While she liked Eisenhower, she thought she would have made a better First Lady than Mamie.

What a bunch of effe’n losers.
        Proud Boys did well today.

        • DeniseVB says:

Proud Boys were putting out fires all day I hear? Professional protesters are definitely a freak show for curiosity seekers, glad some indy journos dedicated themselves to covering them. Their Free Speech Zone was well away from the “normal” people on the other side of the Monument, as far as I can tell.

    • DeniseVB says:

They arrested the arsonist, good, good. I think you need a permit for an open fire in DC, so fuck your flag burning free speech dude. Setting a USSS on fire, you are definitely going to get fooked. 😛

    Wow. Fabulous photos from NPR.

      Fabulous is right! ❤️

    • DeniseVB says:

NPR had to get in their baby blimp shot, at least they didn’t include Robot Toilet Trump 😉 I don’t how they could go much lower, but they usually hang Republican presidents in effigy at events, I guess it could be worse.

Eat more fiber. Your back up is making you grumpy and sarcastic.

    • Cisco says:

Everyone has the right to be a a-hole and say increadably stupid shit, but Knoller abuse’s the privilege.

I was at the Charles River Esplanade, Boston to see Arthur Fiedler, the Boston Pops and the July 4, 1976 fireworks. Don’t remember seeing one “I hate America” protestor, or Flag burner….and those weren’t apolitical times, one year after the fall of Saigon, Watergate, Nixon resignation, etc.

    • elliesmom says:

      I was there, too. ❤

    • DeniseVB says:

I think the whole world watched that show on t.v. I remember it well. Of course, that was long before “social” media where the anarchists can whip up frenzies on a daily basis.

I remember volunteering for the Carter campaign that summer and I can understand how he got elected now, if nothing else, he truly loved this country.

    • DeniseVB says:

It looks like a photo from the 50’s based on the hair and dress style. There’s no clue in that photo that the event was part of a “patriotic” gathering. Teen Vogue needs to stick to beauty and boyfriend advice, not misrepresented history.

      • Constance says:

Teen Vogue is a magazine that libraries, hair and nail salons have because they probably get it for free. I don’t think they have many individual subscribers.

  18. Myiq2xu™ says:

The only thing that would make this better is if the fireworks spelled out:

“Keep America Great – Reelect Trump 2020”

    • lyn says:

      Hatch Act violation!

    • DeniseVB says:

Here’s the whole fireworks show, the longest in DC history. If you see prog bitching about the cost, half were donated by Phantom Fireworks (used to be my dh’s pyromaniac dealer when he was still loving to blow up sh*t…..until the lawsuit 😉 )

      • Angie says:

When I see the progs bitching about the cost, I tell them to pretend dropped the money on Iran; they shouldn’t give a fuck about it then.

        • lyn says:

Remind them how much illegal aliens cost our country every fucking year. This was a yuge PSA for our military and a yuge thank you for their service.

        • DeniseVB says:

I like to say it’s a party the President held for us, we the people. Probably not as much money as Obama spent on his Hollywood pals that you weren’t invited to, so……..

  19. Myiq2xu™ says:

“About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.”

    Calvin Coolidge, July 4, 1926

There used to be some really funny Hillary and Chelsea parody sites until Twitter took them down. Liberals have no sense of humor.

  21. DeniseVB says:

Progs are having fun with their hatey hashtag this morning. Are they misunderstanding this comment? I listened to all the military tributes and never thought he claimed planes were in the Revolutionary War? He was speaking in historical timelines, he had the Marines going from Tripoli to Baghdad in one sentence 🙂

Oh, and my Coastie friends are still swooning over his tribute to them, “WoW, that’s the most badass thing anyone’s said about the Coast Guard” !

    • John Denney says:

He was talking about the Continental Army seizing territory from the British, and I think he meant to say they, “seized the port”, but it came out, “seized the airport”.

Probably because he’s been in a lot more airports than ports lately. 🙂

That brave “Nazi” hunter got Twitchied 🙂 This may be a repeat, but I can’t find the original comment to reply to here, and I know I saw. For anyone else who missed it, this thread on Twitchy is hysterical …….
