F.O.O.T.

50 years ago on this date I was at Hartland Bible Camp having fun and learning about Jeebus. That evening as we met in the little amphitheater the camp director told us that our astronauts had landed on the moon. I really wanted to watch the landing but I wanted to go to camp more. It was probably a good choice because there really wasn’t much to see on television during the first landing. Camp only lasted a week so I did get to watch the astronauts’ return a few days later.

Then one day a few years later our last mission to the moon ended and we never went back. Sad.

I am forever grateful that I was able to work at KSC for 10+ years before I retired, because I was able to meet several of the Apollo astronauts. One appeared at the Visitor’s Center many times and we became friends. Al Worden, Apollo 15. Such a nice man and shared many stories with us about the Apollo days. As I mentioned before, I lived in Daytona Beach in the late 6os and early 70s. While I missed seeing the Apollo 11 launch, we did drive down to Titusville to see 3 or 4 of those moon launches, including the last one in Dec 1972, Apollo 17. That was the only night launch in the Apollo program and it was spectacular. The Saturn V, the most powerful rocket ever flown!

I love launches, how cool it must have been to see the Biggy Boys in person. With luck, I might be able to see a SpaceX (?) launch at Wallops Island from my balcony. It’ll still be a tiny spec, but it’s still a thrill.

      • taw46 says:

I like all launches, even though nothing is like the Saturn V and the shuttle. You should try to get as close as the public is allowed to see the launch, because the sound is a great part of a launch. See, if you move to Cocoa Beach area, you can watch launches all the time, close up. 😉

The Washington Monument tonight (and tomorrow night). The launch.

I had FOX on for a few minutes tonight. I rarely watch anymore. Why do they use headshots of Melania? I think she is so much more beautiful than her professional/model pictures.

  6. John Denney says:

Oh, noes! I violated Facebook’s Community Standards on hate speech!

An anti-Trump friend posted this link. FTA:

“In a panel on immigration, University of Pennsylvania law professor Amy Wax claimed that immigrants are too loud and responsible for an increase in ‘litter.’ She explicitly advocated an immigration policy that would favor immigrants from Western countries over non-Western ones; ‘the position,’ as she put it, ‘that our country will be better off with more whites and fewer nonwhites.’ (She claims this is not racist because her problem with nonwhite immigrants is cultural rather than biological.)”

My banned comment: Apparently she doesn’t know any noisy trashy white people.

I asked for a review, and await a response.

    • Somebody says:

Bizarre, so you’re banned, but she’s not?

    • DeniseVB says:

Sounds like you have a FB “friend” with an itchy Report finger. You simply disagreed, which easily triggers them. Plus, they all seem snark challenged, that was a funny reply 🙂

    • John Denney says:

Nah, the guy who posted it totally disagreed with the Professor, as did I. No one (to my knowledge) reported me, I think, because as soon as I posted it, I mean within seconds, I got the notification.

      Happily, I win. 🙂

I got this at 12:31 this afternoon:

      Hi John,

Your comment is now back on Facebook. We’re sorry we got it wrong.

When I first saw this picture 50 years ago, I was amazed. I thought it was one of the most beautiful and fascinating photographs I had ever seen. It’s still up there on my list.

I am still so annoyed at that NYT editorial. Glad to see others have also commented on it.

Katie Hopkins was retweeted by POTUS this a.m., boy, is she going to freak out 😀

    • DeniseVB says:

As predicted, Katie’s not only trending on Twitter now, but “The Angry Troll Mob” is attacking her viciously.

I follow Brexit and WalkAway Canada, both groups want a clone of Trump to lead their countries 🙂 Y’know, someone who actually cares about the welfare of it’s citizens. It’s a pretty simple thing to do, Nationalism is not a dirty word like the vile progs want us to believe it is.

OK now, was I the only one who thought this post was going to be about myiq’s trip to the FOOT doctor? (Hope it went well !)

      Trustworthiness

    • blowme0bama says:

Of course not. Media thinks we are just not understanding how shitty white people are and if they just beat us over the head enough, we’ll feel guilty about everything too.

do not like this a little bit. One paragraph really made me wonder. Lawyers in state AG offices paid by outside interests. Happens in all states

  27. Constance says:

That interview with Victor Hanson is great. But I do disagree. He thinks Trump will fade into obscurity after his terms in office because he won’t be invited to participate by the next elitist who takes office. I say the elitists have permanently lost their grip on government. I do agree that the reason elitists hate Trump is because he accomplishes what they never could.

    • blowme0bama says:

Here’s why I have pessimism. Trump funded his own campaign. Who else can do that? If you rely on the national committees – you’re bought by the chamber of commerce

If Dandy’s peeking in, my hubby’s out at the Aviation Museum this afternoon (in bumf**k Pungo) learning about the PBY Catalina (???). He joked about flying it back and landing it on our lake and messing with our HOA’s heads. I laughed.
