This may sound hard to believe but there are millions of people in this country who do not follow politics. These people could not tell you the name of the Speaker of the House, and many of them don’t know what the Speaker does. They couldn’t pick Chuck Schemer out of a line-up if their lives depended on it. They know who President Trump is, but Mike Pence, not so much.
Not only do these people exist but there are more of them than there are of us!
Those of us who are into politics are a small minority. That includes the Left and the Right. But what we lack in numbers we make up for in passion and intensity. That passion and intensity can distort our perceptions. You can get so caught up in the daily battle that you lose sight of the larger war.
On one side there is the Democrat party, the Deep State, the Media, Hollywood, Planned Parenthood, and the education establishment. On the other side there is Trump, the NRA, Some of Fox News, talk radio, and us. By “us” I mean “us Trump supporters.” Seems like a mismatch.
The good news is, we seem to be winning the war.
Here’s a piece from GorillaPundit:
“The first reason I mentioned was: ‘we are winning.’ I am confident of this because of a number of things I have observed. The first is the number of progressives who have gone from openly attacking Trump to openly attacking Trump supporters. The attacks usually go something like this: “Trump is a racist, a white supremacist, and a despicable human being. And if you intend to vote for him, then so are you.” This is not the well-considered argument of a reasonable person. This is desperation. This is panic. You can smell the flop sweat. They’re not going to win over potential voters by screeching at them. What they’re trying to do, I guess, is to shame you into not voting for Trump. But that’s not going to work. Because Trump voters are not going to not vote for him, they’ll just keep their heads down, not say much, maintain a low profile, and then vote for him on election day when they’re far, far away from the progressives and their ceaseless hectoring about how deplorable they are. They only result is that the polls will be thrown off due to the undercounted Trump who are tired of being called names.
“And speaking of polls, I don’t care much about them, particularly not this far out, but here’s one that caught my eye: it seems that, according to Newsweak magazine, Trump, Obama Approval Ratings Are Exact Same 922 Days Into Respective Presidencies. Now that’s very interesting. Even after obsequiously kissing Obama’s butt throughout his presidency, propping him up, running interference for him, his approval rating is the same as a president they’ve been doing everything in their power to destroy. And it’s simply not working. It must’ve given that Newsweak staff writer painful bowel spasms to have to write that headline.
Obama took office with high approval ratings and a news media that were his biggest fans. His approval ratings trended down for most of 8 years, but he never got as low as George Bush. Trump, on the other hand, took office with low approval ratings and his have trended up.
The pollsters and political pros keep insisting that Trump is in trouble and the Democrats will win if they don’t screw up. Well, we all remember what they said last time and how that worked out. Here is my analysis:
Trump is the incumbent. The election will be a referendum on his first four years. The general rule is that incumbents get elected unless they have done a bad job.
The two biggest issues for voters are war and the economy. Voters typically rally around a wartime POTUS, but as time goes on they turn against the war. But unless something unexpected happens we won’t be at war next November. Voters like peace, and reelect peacetime incumbents.
The economy is roaring along like it’s the 1920’s again. Or is the 1980’s? Either way, when the boom times ended the guy in office failed to win reelection. I mention this because the media is practically cheerleading for a recession to hit. No incumbent POTUS has ever failed to win reelection when the economy was strong.
Scandals have taken down presidents, but despite his reputation and 3 years of the media digging for dirt, Trump remains scandal-free. The media has effectively inoculated Trump from charges of racism by accusing McCain and Romney of being racists in 2008 and 2012. And polls show that voters ain’t buying the spin.
“But what about his bad character??” scream the NeverTrumpers. “Orange Man Bad! Orange Man Bad!” they cry.
I have never understood this line of argument. According to the Dead-End Haters their opposition to Trump is based upon their high moral principles. Trump is such a bad person that electing him will taint the GOP for years if not forever. Better to vote for Hillary than let Trump win.
First of all, I don’t know what the fuck they are talking about. What has Trump done that is so morally reprehensible? They were already NeverTrumpers when the “pussy tape” turned up. They said he was working for Russia, but that was a lie. They say that Trump lies, but their examples are things like “My inaugural crowd was bigger than Obama’s.” The “lies” Trump has told pale in comparison to the lies told ABOUT Trump.
Anything bad you can say about Trump’s character applies even more so to Billary Clinton.
Last but not least, the media keeps telling us that people don’t like Trump’s bombastic manner and his street fight approach to politics. Seriously? Would people vote against peace and prosperity over some mean tweets?
I don’t believe it.
Anyhoo, I just looked at the clock and I gotta get some shut-eye. Keep your chins up, and don’t let the bastards grind you down.
