Today In Stupid: This Ad Violated Facebook’s Rules

Can you guess why this ad was rejected by Facebook? It targets women. No, seriously Some TDS (tedious) deranged nutbag at a site called Popular Info complained that it violated Facebook rules so they told the Trump campaign to take it down.

Facebook admits Trump campaign is violating its rules, takes down numerous ads targeting women

Donald Trump has a problem with women. Recent polling shows that 60% of women or more disapprove of Trump’s presidency. An ABC poll found that Trump lags far behind the four leading Democratic presidential candidates among women, trailing Biden (-20), Harris (-15), Sanders (-13), and Warren (-11)

So Trump is attempting to rally support from women with Facebook ads like this:

There is just one problem: this ad, and others like it, violate Facebook’s rules.

Facebook’s advertising guidelines list thirty varieties of prohibited content. Number twelve on the list prohibits ads that target “personal attributes.” Facebook says ads must not include “direct or indirect assertions or implications about a person’s… gender identity.”

Trump’s ad is clearly prohibited, but Facebook allowed it to run until an inquiry by Popular Information. “We’ve notified the campaign that the ads violate policy. They can’t continue to run unless fixed,” a Facebook spokesperson told Popular Information.

Last year, Facebook promised to hire 3,000 to 4,000 people to manually review political ads for violations. But the company admitted to Popular Information earlier this year that it still “relies primarily on automated tools to check ads against these policies.” That system is not working. In April, Facebook allowed the Trump campaign to run a series of ads containing the phrase “Attention Ladies.” The ads were not removed until Popular Information asked Facebook about the violation.

I’m not going to quote any more of the nutbaggery.

I guess Facebook will no longer accept ads for tampons and other feminine hygiene products.

The really depressing thing is knowing with absolute certainty that this is not peak stupid. Soon, probably within 24 hours, something even stupider will come along.

  11. helenk3 says:

Been watching out NYPD are going to go strictly by the rules now. I wonder if the people of NYC know how much that can impact them.
I will give you an example of strictly by the rules in transportation. By the rules a crew can only be on duty 12 hours, not one minute more. Now due to unforeseen circumstances the train is delayed and the crew runs out of time 5 minutes before the station. By the rules the crew should stop the train until a relief crew gets there. That means you sit on the train until a new crew arrives or buses can get you to the station. that could take hours as a crew has to be called, and get to the train or their home terminal to sign up and then get to the train to move it 5 minutes to the station’ They get paid 8 hours for this. Or the first crew could use common sense and bring the train to the station to unload the passengers.
Sometimes the rules are not in everyone’s best interest.

One time I came on duty to find that the incoming train had be delayed and outbound crew had not been set back ( told to go on duty several hours later.) The went on duty at the regular time and sat at the station until the train got there. Now this crew did not have enough time to complete their run. When I found out I started called a T&E crew to relieve them. I called and asked what station are you close to , get there and get on the train when it gets there. They had no problem doing this. The conductor of the first crew called me when they got to their terminal and said they were picking up blue uniforms at a lot of stations on the trip. The train did not lose a minute and got to destination on time. BY the rules the relief crew should have been signed up at their home terminal and taken to the train where it would have been sitting when the 1st crew ran out of time. Would have been a lot of late and unhappy passengers

I’m white, but as a kid I was considered by the government as being underprivileged.

So it seems to me that the problem is not that some are privileged, but that some are underprivileged.

The focus should not be shaming those who were raised by two caring parents in financial security, but on why that normal upbringing doesn’t happen for a lot of kids.

      • DeniseVB says:

In that winter climate, the heat pumps (?) are going to drain the energy that would have kept a third world country running for 10 years. Property taxes in MA ? Landscapers to keep that yard tidy, domestic staff to keep the inside tidy? I really don’t care how the Obamas spend their money, but I think the purchase price is going to be a lot cheaper than the maintenance.

One of my favorite Obama quotes were from the days he aspired to be the next Donald Trump 🙂 Maybe they think if they just buy up clunky old mansions in elite neighborhoods, they’re on their way to the billions it took PDJT working hard over decades to build ?

        • Mothy67 says:

It’s just a summer home, right?
They could use it to hold fundraisers for foundations charging massive rent. Hollywood would fall all over themselves for invites. Bet there is some angle.

      • lateblum says:

I agree, Dora. This house is a design nightmare. But then so is the new owner,s wife. She likely made the final decision as it seems to fit her notion of class and style.

    • lateblum says:

When i first read about this purchase, I immediately thought of Island Girl and how happy she would be now that the grifters sold their vacation home in HI. Then I started wondering when they were going to unload their “primary residence” in Kenwood (not Hyde Park), Chicago. There was a shooting a couple blocks away earlier this week. It must take lots of $$ to keep the house and yard protected. Especially since the “owners” are never there.

      • DeniseVB says:

What? They owned that Hawaii vacation property? Like they owned their Chicago home? I’m so confused.

        • lateblum says:

Yes. I read they sold their Hawaiian vacation home for $15M to buy the one in the Vineyard. I suppose it is much more prestigious to live in/on the Cape than on the big island in the Pacific.

          • elliesmom says:

How many celebrities in the Obamas’ “circle” vacation on the big island? In New England the “pricey” places to own a summer place are Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, and Bar Harbor. Lately Nantucket has been attracting some of the moneyed folks, but it’s been mostly locals, like Block Island’s clientele, until recently. I’m guessing it’s about how much publicity and how much notice they’ll get more than the actual place. Walking around Newport, especially during the Jazz Festival, you’ll rub shoulders with billionaires, but who would have known who Klaus Von Bulow was until he tried to murder his wife? Hanging out among the rich isn’t enough for the Obamas. They need “rich and famous” and the paparazzi that follow them around.

          • lateblum says:

Absolutely correct. They likely got a little notice on the Big Island. But not nearly enough to suit them. Is my guess as well.

          • Myiq2xu™ says:

The Obamas no longer have any favors to sell so now they are just aging celebrities. As the years go by the cachet of being seen with them will fade. How many more memoirs could they possibly write? Barack’s only talent is self-promotion, but he is no longer a rising star. Mooch has no talents, just wide shoulders, toned arms, and lots of junk in the trunk.

            Sic transit gloria mundi.

          • Myiq2xu™ says:

I almost feel sorry for Mooch. Barack no longer needs a beard or someone to establish his credibility with the black community. The only leverage she has left is what secrets she knows. I hope she kept notes over the years, along with a few pieces of incriminating evidence. And I hope she has them in a very safe place.

        • lateblum says:

I wonder if Oprah fronted them the $$ for the HI villa.

    • lateblum says:

There were some interior photos online yesterday, and when I saw the master bedroom I wondered aloud, “I wonder whose bedroom that will be.” I seriously did say that out loud. The bed is huuuuuge; Mooch will fit. So I’m guessing it will be her room. At least if the furniture stays, it will.

NBC News: “Heterosexuality Is Just Not Working’

    • lateblum says:

      • elliesmom says:

Given that the vast majority of people who leave the house to go to work everyday work for someone else, why do women who get to stay at home and raise a family, IOW work for themselves, feel oppressed? I understand there are women who don’t like raising kids and get no satisfaction from keeping a house, but household chores need to get done whether one works outside of the home or inside. Brady Bunch families where a woman gets to be at home all day and have full-time household help are few and far between. I know one woman who lives with her lesbian partner who doesn’t have a paying job, but not many women find themselves in that place.
