Leftist Writer Unclear On Concept Of “Connect The Dots”

Jill Filipovic*

Remember those puzzles we used to get where you connect the dots in the proper order and it makes a picture?

Jill Filipovic at CNN:

Trump team’s disgusting smear of Alexander Vindman

One man is a refugee-turned-American-soldier, a decorated lieutenant colonel who holds a Purple Heart from his duty in Iraq — where he was injured by a roadside bomb — and a master’s degree from Harvard. After working in US embassies in Kiev and Moscow, he now sits on the National Security Council, and writes eloquently and forcefully about his sense of duty.

The other is a child of privilege — who inherited hundreds of millions of dollars and avoided the Vietnam War draft by claiming bone spurs. He rails against the First Amendment protections the American media enjoys, pillories career civil servants, and has belittled those who have served and suffered, including the Muslim family of a slain soldier, and a former prisoner of war, the late Sen. John McCain.

He hinders investigations into hostile foreign interference in the American elections that are the bedrock of our democracy. Now he stands accused of undermining the integrity of those elections by asking a foreign leader to dig up dirt on his potential opponent — something to which he has admitted.

Who is the real patriot here?

If you said the first man — Alexander S. Vindman, the war hero, the man who literally bled for his country and has dedicated his life to public service — you would be wrong, according to a right-wing media apparatus that has gone all-in on the second man, Donald Trump.

On Fox News, John Yoo (yes, that John Yoo, the former government lawyer who came up with George W. Bush’s “enhanced interrogation” torture policy) opined that perhaps Lt. Col. Vindman was a traitor engaged in “espionage” on behalf of Ukraine. Former Wisconsin Republican Congressman Sean Duffy used his new platform at CNN to similarly smear Vindman, saying “We all have an affinity to our homeland where we came from. Like me, I’m sure that Vindman has the same affinity.”

On Fox again, Brian Kilmeade repeated the same allegation, using nearly the same language: Vindman “is from the Soviet Union, he emigrated here, and has an affinity to the Ukrainian people.”

Vindman came to the United States when he was three, brought along by a family fleeing anti-Semitic persecution in the Soviet Union. He knows the dangers of Russian hostility better than any American cable news talking head. He is a citizen of this country, and he has served this country with great valor.

The slanderous suggestions that he’s disloyal because of birthplace and because he speaks Ukrainian are plainly disgusting. And they are profoundly unpatriotic: The United States is, after all, a nation founded on the principle that being an American isn’t about where you had the random luck to be born, but rather whether you swear allegiance to a unique and enduring set of values.

Uh oh! When a Leftist starts waxing poetically about somebody’s patriotism, your irony meter will explode. Let’s start at the top.

1. The three men she named as examples are not part of “Team Trump.”
2. We don’t know what was really said by Vindman bcause it was a closed session.
3. Saying that someone may have an affinity for their homeland is not an insult.
4. I cannot believe that anyone was freaked out by the phone call between Trump and the Ukraine leader. Except Joe and Hunter Biden, of course.
5. Trump was investigating hostile foreign interference in one of our elections.
6. Mike Flynn is a loyal, patriotic American who has devoted his life to serving our country too. Why is is okay to trash his reputation?

The Left likes to play this silly game where someone who has “served and suffered” attacks Trump and when he hits back the media freaks out like Trump beat Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a baseball bat.

If you are gonna blame Trump for something you need to show a connection between Trump and whatever you want to blame him for.

*Not really

First DJT didn’t inherit hundreds of millions of dollars. His father’s estate was split between he and his siblings in the late 90’s after he was already filthy rich. His oldest brother’s kids were cut out of inheritance by their grandfather who affirmed that choice twice prior to his death. They sued, the entire saga played out in the tabloids, along with many estimates of the estate.

The press doesn’t have a 1st amendment right to lie. The Muslim gold star father and the “war hero”, jackass senator put themselves in the crosshairs. Don’t start no shit, won’t be no shit. If you dish it out, you better be prepared to take it.

Now on to the supposed patriot hero. A) he maintains dual citizenship so that truly proves he has at a minimum an affinity or fondness of his homeland or perhaps divided loyalty…..I report, you decide

Moving on, the supposed hero admitted to the NYT that he’d been advising Ukraine officials how to thwart President Trump’s foreign policy. He also admitted under oath to sharing classified information. John Yoo was spot on with his analysis. This pasty faced little weasel the left wants to paint as their hero better lawyer up. He’s clearly too stupid to know he’ll be thrown under the bus in 3, 2, 1. Useful idiot he is.

Other than those things, I suppose it was a perfectly fine article 😛

I think Donald was given some seed money to play with when he was in college. He found his passion in real estate and built up from there. Dad was mostly building in Brooklyn and Queens, which bored his son. NYC was pretty depressed in the 70’s, so he moved his rehab projects to Manhattan and the rest is history 🙂 As he grew wealthier he expanded to shiny new buildings and hotels. What the pussy hat mob probably doesn’t know, he put a woman in charge of building Trump Tower.

      • Somebody says:

Oh yes, he has said his father gave him a one million dollar loan. That is clearly privilege because at his age and with his experience a bank never would have given him that kind of 💰 Remember this is 70’s 💰 an equivalent amount would be a lot more in today’s dollars.

DJT clearly had advantages few ever have, but the canard that he inherited all his money gets on my nerves. Especially when it is so easy to fact check. His father’s death was in 1998 I believe and due to the lawsuit it took a while to even settle the estate. At that point in his life what he inherited was walking around money for him.

To be honest I’m not completely convinced he did inherit anything. Fred cut those kids out, they sued the estate. In the end it was DJT that negotiated a settlement, so the newspaper articles from then state. I’ve always assumed he gave the kids most or all of his share to get the whole mess out of the media. I could be wrong, we’ll never really know.

        • Constance says:

Trump grew up with wealth and privilege and most importantly a loving, close knit family. His older brother had the same opportunities and died of alcohol addition at a young age and accomplished little with his life.

          • DeniseVB says:

That’s a good point about his older brother.

          • Somebody says:

That is a valid point about his brother, although I do believe he was a pilot before spiraling into alcoholism. (Back in the days when pilots were highly respected and paid well). His brother had no interest in the family business.

I could see Fred cutting out a drunk, but his son was dead. I wonder why he felt the need to punish his grandchildren? Maybe it was as simple as he didn’t include any of his other grandchildren so why include them??? I read DJT’s sister the judge handled the will and had Fred reaffirm cutting them out twice. The last time in 1993 right after his diagnosis and 5 years prior to his death.

I didn’t follow any of this at the time, but back during the election so much was made of him not being a good businessman, squandering his inheritance…..he’d have more if he put it in a mutual fund, blah, blah. I set out to find out the facts and ended up reading a bunch of articles about the fight for his father’s estate

Interesting side note. In what seemed like retaliation DJT’s brother, who was running their father’s business cut off their nephew’s health insurance (son of dead brother). Apparently Fred had the dead son’s kids on payroll and provided them insurance. No indication they really did much, if anything for company, also could be reason they were cut out, already got $$, seemed to be following their dad’s path????

Anyway, right after the brother cut the health insurance the nephew’s wife went into premature labor. DJT went to hospital and told them spare no expense, do everything for this baby and send me the bill. Years later when talking about changing his view on abortion in an interview, DJT talked about a friend having a premature baby in NICU. He talked about scrubbing up and going in NICU, the tiny babies and the wonders of the medical staff and how those babies survive and grow up, in fact his friend’s child is doing fabulous or words to that effect. It could have been a friend, but I kind of figured it was his nephew’s baby.

        • DeniseVB says:

I hate when we run out of the *reply* option, your last comment was fabulous, and I just wanted to tell you that. also, that the History of Trump is so deep, so special, so complicated, but it’s his history and it what makes Trump, Trump. He’s spent 40+ years on the International stage (including the tabloids that followed him relentlessly). It was his bravado that made him a billionaire, also, maybe the best President in my lifetime, and I’ve been alive since Truman 😛

    • Constance says:

I found it odd that he wore a fancy uniform to testify. It seemed a little over the top, camera ready. Not something you would do in a secretive hearing setting.

      Speaking of dogs…..

      • lyn says:

Sorry, Joe, Democrat dogs do not deserve to be in the White House.

        • DeniseVB says:

PDJT was honest from the start, he’s too busy to give a dog the attention it deserves. Most Presidents came to the WH already having dogs.

Jill bought Joe a GSD puppy “Champ” after the 2008 election. Haven’t seen him since either. To be fair, that was 11 years ago, and not sure of Shepherds’ life expectancy.

      • Constance says:

Where are the Obama white house dogs now?

        • Mt.Laurel says:

Hopefully not not in the freezer wrapped in butcher paper.

        • DeniseVB says:

LOL, reminds me of Obama’s campaign “promise”, uh, promised his girls, he’d adopt a rescue dog if he won in 2008. The national rescue groups, HSUS, Peta and the ASPCA all put up pro-Obama pages to encourage voting for him, HE SUPPORTS RESCUE, drool, drool, drool. Who knows if that tipped the scale in 2008, we animal lovers are a squishy bunch? BO won, then we never heard about WH doggies again. I persisted.

Human BO, was pressured to ADOPT A DAMN DOG for months. Funnily, Uncle Teddy gifted the Obama family with that first Portie, named “BO”, from his breeder pal who rehomes Porties that don’t work out for her clients. “BO” still needed 6 months of intensive training before he moved into to the White House. The Obama family needed to put a dog trainer/kennel attendant on staff for 100k year. Then came “Sunny”. Wut? Ok, it was their last term. I was on to them though. Media never was because……..

When the Trumps moved in, most of the WH had to be gutted of historic wood floors and carpets were destroyed by the un-housebroken Obama Dogs. It’s why Melania stayed in NYC the first 8 months of their term. The WH has dealt with vermin over the decades, but not the piss and shit from the Obama dogs.

          • Mt.Laurel says:

So many comments come to mind, but I will be good.

They also played the poor B & M had to go in-vitro route in order to have children and got a lot of press and sympathy from those groups assuming it would become a major “cause” of M as FLOTUS.. Then all that background on B & M was bleached form the records once the election was over.

Shiff is just the face of the impeachment farce, Nancy is afraid of the real people who are in charge which is the same idiots who weaponized the Intel agencies in the Obama administration. So Ben Rhodes, Val Jar, and the rest. The would be gestapo. This is their last big shot. And for the record I think Trump should allow the government to shut down for a few months. It is the fault of the House that there isn’t a budget and funding.

Years ago on HuffPo I asked some whiner why he didn’t just go and start his own non-profit company to compete against the ‘greedy” for-profit company he was whining about.
He said he couldn’t do it because he didn’t have a Senator in his back pocket.
Oh, so you agree then that there’s too much bureaucratic red tape?

    • elliesmom says:

I remember when Bristol Palin was on the show. We didn’t watch, but every week Elliesdad would remind me to vote for her. Then one of the daughters from Duck Dynasty was on, and he started reminding me to vote for her. That time I thought I should actually watch. Sadie was really good and deserved her place in the finals, but folks still trashed her scores every week. I watched a clip of Spicer dancing the other day. He’s a little stiff, but he looked like he’s having fun. The producers seem to pick one contestant every season for the left to hate on. Elliesdad just felt really bad when that person was somebody’s kid.

Me, too. Last night I fell asleep watching TV. Ellie usually wakes me up if I do that, but last night she just curled up on the floor next to me. So I didn’t get a great night’s sleep. I’m seriously thinking about a nap this afternoon, and I’m not a napper.

      • votermom says:

I bet Ellie will be happy to nap with you!

      • lateblum says:

Take that nap, em. I’m not a napper, either. But just a week or so ago I read something abou5 taking a nap when needed is not only healthy, but contributes to a longer and healthier life. When I went to the MD last week, she said the same thing. She asked me if I napped and I said “only when I have to”. She said that napping when needed and not as a habit, enhances one’s quality of life and adds to longevity.

I was back in my old hometown last week after being away for over 15 years. I met an old friend, and he commented on how nice it was to see I still have pretty auburn hair. My hair was gray for 25 of the last 26 years of my life, and it wasn’t auburn before that. But, hey, I’ll take the compliment and probably keep the auburn hair for another couple of haircuts anyway.
