I just got home a little bit ago, and noticed that Christmas lights/decorations are going up all over the area. It feels early, but then, dd#1โs birthday is Wednesday, so I guess Thanksgiving will be here in no time. How far away can Christmas be?

I use my “Christmas” lights from fall equinox to spring equinox. Now that I’m old I don’t give a rats ass what the neighbors think of it, I think it’s cheerful and pretty.
I think so, too. I love to see the lights. I noticed the lights yesterday, because about 4yrs ago, the lights – even in the traditionally more affluent neighborhoods – were minimal. Since PDJT, the lights have returned. Even with Halloween there were seasonal lights/decorations appearing.
Yet these are the very people who are making the most noise about and against him.
I hate always bringing politics into everything. But in this town, politics and political speech, are prominent. The self-awareness not so much.
We don’t have any street lights on my street so it gets pretty dark here at night. I have white twinkle lights in all of my bushes and on two small trees in my front yard. They’re solar powered and come on at dark every night. How long they stay on at night depends on how much sun we’ve had that day. I leave them up all year, and I never turn the switch off. In the summer there’s a set that fit into the patio umbrella on the front porch. When I have summer guests at night, they always comment on my “fairyland”. Since fairies aren’t seasonal, I offer no apology. The upside is I’m never hanging Christmas lights in below zero weather. I could turn the switch off when Christmas is over, but why? It’s pretty.
