What is the scientific prognosis for someone with senile dementia?

The Mad Scientists of America consulted with chicken entrails and pooped this out:

Scientific American has never endorsed a presidential candidate in its 175-year history. This year we are compelled to do so. We do not do this lightly.

The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people—because he rejects evidence and science. The most devastating example is his dishonest and inept response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which cost more than 190,000 Americans their lives by the middle of September. He has also attacked environmental protections, medical care, and the researchers and public science agencies that help this country prepare for its greatest challenges. That is why we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who is offering fact-based plans to protect our health, our economy and the environment. These and other proposals he has put forth can set the country back on course for a safer, more prosperous and more equitable future.

The pandemic would strain any nation and system, but Trump’s rejection of evidence and public health measures have been catastrophic in the U.S. He was warned many times in January and February about the onrushing disease, yet he did not develop a national strategy to provide protective equipment, coronavirus testing or clear health guidelines. Testing people for the virus, and tracing those they may have infected, is how countries in Europe and Asia have gained control over their outbreaks, saved lives, and successfully reopened businesses and schools. But in the U.S., Trump claimed, falsely, that “anybody that wants a test can get a test.” That was untrue in March and remained untrue through the summer. Trump opposed $25 billion for increased testing and tracing that was in a pandemic relief bill as late as July. These lapses accelerated the spread of disease through the country—particularly in highly vulnerable communities that include people of color, where deaths climbed disproportionately to those in the rest of the population.

Mad Scientists of America (MSA) is an organization of angry Illuminati types who use the scientific method to make all their decision. The brilliance of these men and women (mostly men cuz everybody knows that girls can’t science) is matched only by their physical attractiveness.

What’s that? There is no organization called “Mad Scientists of America?” Scientific American is owned by a German company? SA’s editorial board is basically Laura Helmuth, the Editor-in-Chief?

LOL, SciAm doesn’t even know if there are more than 2 genders or no genders ? 175 years, no wonder our world is so stupid.

  2. Somebody says:

German owned huh? Interesting because in Germany and most EU countries they are only testing symptomatic people, with a doctor referral. That was the approach here in the US also until sometime in late April to late May, depending on location. If you want a covid test you can get a covid test here in the US and it’s free. I’m sure that varies by state, but there is testing available.

I live in a small town with a population of around 10,000 and I can walk to two covid testing sites. To be fair one of them is only open certain days. My county has a population of 85,000 and there are 9 testing sites here, plus 3 part time sites. We literally could test the entire population in about 10 days.

I’m getting really tired of the wuflu blame game, especially from H1N1 lead Biden. Over 60 million Americans had H1N1, thankfully it wasn’t as deadly and there was some natural immunity within older populations. The totals were probably much higher because the Obama administration simply stopped testing. Imagine if 60 plus million had wuflu, you want an 🍎 to 🍎 of Trump vs Biden in a pandemic, it’s there.

As for the motivation for endorsing Biden, I’m betting the climate change gravy train is drying up a bit.

    Haters gonna hate.

    • DeniseVB says:

Yes, the numbers mean nothing to me. Very early in this cooties outbreak, we were told we had to have these “x” number of symptoms for the test, fever, cough, etc. Now it’s like the Oprah Covid Giveaway, Everybody gets a Test !!! I mean, really, is testing positive for WuFlu like being a little bit pregnant? Remember those very early films from Wuhan that showed people in masks just falling down dead? Scary sh*t.

I still remain skeptical. I do think any flu season can remain iffy for our most vulnerable population. I didn’t see much difference in this one. But hey, I’m an introvert, the past 6 months haven’t been so terribly hard for me 😀

      • Somebody says:

For me either🤣 It’s a heck of a way to get a break, but I’ve been able to just be grandma for 6 months now after 5 years of being pseudo mom. I’ve enjoyed the quiet.

        • lateblum says:

I bet you have enjoyed it.. It’s been quite a change. 💕

        • DeniseVB says:

Do you know Cripes Suzette had a MAJOR heart attack in July? She’s recovering nicely on Twitter now with her snarky tweets.

          • Somebody says:

No, I had no idea. We’ve never been able to get together, but we exchanged numbers, emails, etc and have connected a few times that way. Our attempts to meet up conflicted with my grandkids or her work schedule. I understand she’s retired now. Sorry to hear about her health issues. I pop on her blog from time to time, but she hasn’t posted anything lately, now I know why.

          • DeniseVB says:

She seems to be doing fine, has a pacemaker, became a teetotaler and went on a vegan diet. I know when my dh had his “heart event” a couple of years ago, he was handed a “suggested” diet sheet and told the nutritionist, just kill me now. Still enjoys his scotch and way too much junk food. Sigh. He’s picked his poison, so to speak 😀

          • lateblum says:

I had no idea either. She has never mentioned it. But I only know her from twitter, even though I checked on her blog from time to time. I realize you were quite connect3d to her in the past. She seems to be doing well right now. Hope it continues.

      • lateblum says:

Gov.Pritzker and his family have financial interests in the testing here. No wonder he’s been pushing for EVERYONE to get a test. I mean it’s what we’ve been listening to for at least 2-3 months. I think that’s what led to people looking into it. Follow the money is the truth!

      • Constance says:

Still, with testing of anyone and everyone it means the death rate goes way down. Our low death rate is what The administration needs to point to.

        • DeniseVB says:

Low death rate, from what? Point to the rise in suicide numbers and inner city homicides…..okay, apples and oranges, but we really do need to focus on the side effects of lockdowns. I’d also like to know “if Mary Jones (generic) has worn a mask since March, how did she die from the virus” ? “If masks work, why are we still in lockdown” ?

          • Constance says:

Those are all legit concerns. But by measuring every person who has the tiniest amount of virus means the death rate from the virus goes way down.

  3. taw46 says:

    I laughed.

  4. swanspirit says:

Laura Helmuth came to Scientific American via Slate, and the Washington Post. Is it any wonder she spews the same propaganda and partisan unscientific disinformation that her previous places of employment constantly belch forth? Why no, no it isn’t. But she gets to rubber stamp the same garbage with Scientific American, because the truth is expendable, and money and power are compelling, and alluring.
    Her opinion is pure drivel.
And the prognosis for dementia is about 4- 5 years, but that is with greatly diminished capacity.

  5. taw46 says:

Aaaand, Joe confirms. Harris/Biden it is!

    • DeniseVB says:

If I were still a Dem voter and voted in the Dem primaries, I would be so pissed right now. If you look up the Dem 2020 primaries on Wiki, about 40 candidates started out, most dropped out before the first primary, including Kamala. She was only about 1% in the polls. I’m not sure why the Bernie Bros are so quiet, he gave Joe a run for his socialist money.

I think Elliesmom was on to something in the last thread, this is not normal, creepy, in fact. What kind of deal did Kamala make to drop out “unscathed” so to speak?

      • taw46 says:

Her own party didn’t want her but the party leaders decided to sneak her in anyway. This is beyond evil, as is just about everything they do these days. All those candidates who ran should be pissed. But they don’t care. As long as the left gains full power again, it’s all fine with them.

        • DeniseVB says:

I was part of the JRE cult in 2004, he should have been the top o’the ticket that year. He was a fresh face, had major personal and professional accomplishments, (compared to Obama, oh well, racist). Kerry was a loser, we knew that now 😉

  6. DeniseVB says:

A TCHer, and if you’re on Twitter, be sure to follow her. Good stuff……

    • 1539days says:

Will this affect even one vote? If it does, it will probably be among readers who drop their subscription and vote Trump because the other side is deranged.

      • DeniseVB says:

I’ve been a reader/subscriber to National Geographic all my life, they’re starting to creep me out now with their boogity-boo Global Warming *warnings*. Then again, I’m a lifetime reader/subscriber to TV GUIDE, and they’re now pushing Netflix and pushing Alyssa Milano for the Who’s The Boss reboot. Is that what it feels like turning OLD? Good grief. 😛

        • 1539days says:

I have a TV Guide collection and I even stopped when they went to the magazine format with no local listings.

          • DeniseVB says:

I hate the new t.v.guide format, but we’re not a 3-channel world anymore. Can you imagine how big it would be now if they kept the old 24/7, summaries of every show on a gazillion channels? LOL, NYC phonebook yuge. I do their online guide, you can pick your favorite channels in your broadcast/cable area, it’s as close to the old format as you can get 😀

This is weird, just got a notice from my Amazon Magazine Manager that Archaeology was due for renewal, what to my surprise, it also prompted “people who subscribe to this magazine, also subscribe to National Geographic AND Scientific American. Creepy, right. I just may get rid of my NatGeo linked subscriptions and go back to Gun and Garden and Southern Living !

    Added-
There are a lot of steps to go through for someone with dementia to get to totally incompetent, and the speed depends a lot on what’s causing the dementia and where the person starts out. Whether someone gets all the way to doesn’t recognize anyone or where he is depends on whether the thing causing the dementia or something else kills him first. But no matter what the cause of the dementia or how brilliant the person was at the start, it doesn’t take long to reach the “not competent to be POTUS” stage.

    • swanspirit says:

I can’t watch that. I have escorted people from the dining room back to their rooms in the nursing home who were more coherent than that, because they couldn’t dine without supervision. He is too far gone to hold any office, much less President. It’s beyond belief that, not that he is running, but that “they are running him” SMH
I was a supervisor at a nursing home/ rehab, and the Nursing administrator at an adult day care. Joe would be ok in an adult day care, if he had proper care at home, which he could have, if he weren’t being run for office.

      • elliesmom says:

I lived this. I worked hard to keep Elliesdad at home in familiar surroundings with people around him he knew. He loved having guests to dinner. When he found it hard to keep a conversation going for a dinner party for 4, I invited 6 or 8 people so he could mostly listen. I moved him near old friends when his doctor told me those were the people he’d forget last. I chose a house that would make him feel like he was on vacation without needing to travel, and I did it before things progressed very far so he could enjoy it. When the things he loved to do got to be frustrating, I found similar things that were less challenging. He worked on smartass answers to the questions he knew his doctor would ask to check on his cognitive level. I let his doctor know that was what he was doing so when the doctor asked, “Can you tell me who this woman is who brought you today?” and ED said, “I hope she’s not my sister because I think I’ve had sex with her”, the doctor knew ED knew who I was. But this is not, to quote my mom, “Mother, pin a rose on me.” But it is why I think Jill Biden is an evil person. I can understand how the Democrats in power can abuse Joe Biden like this, but her behavior is cruel. They have lots of money. Multiple homes. Family. He’s been Vice President. He needs rest and love.

        • lateblum says:

You showed your love for ED in so many ways. It doesn’t seem possible anyone could do more. Jill Biden seems she could do so much more, but also seems not interested. It’s wrong of me to be so judgmental of her, but I have been watching this for as long as everyone else here, and I am now really angry. I’m angry at her for the callous disregard for her husband’s deteriorating condition. I’m angry that the democrat party is so dismissive of Joe Biden and of the electorate that they would knowingly put forward a candidate that cannot possibly serve as POTUS. I thought bait and switch was illegal in this country.

        • Constance says:

Even Obama said “Joe, you don’t have to do this” I have more respect for Obama than for Jill or the rest of Joe’s family.

          • lateblum says:

It’s hard for me to agree with you on this. But I *do*. I can’t accept that the Biden family would treat their husband and father the way they do. All of them have lived off him forever. And they just can’t let go – no matter the real cost to him.

          • Constance says:

            Reminds me of the McCains.

          • lateblum says:

Didn’t Robert Byrd of KKK fame, also come into the Senate on his deathbed to vote for/against something? Ted Kennedy, too.? But I don’t know if that was simply to build up a “profile in courage” for posterity or something else. Power? Legacy? Legend?

  8. SHV says:

I subscribed to SA for more than 30 years. About 20 years ago, they began to “modernize” the format. After that I began to notice that more and more “science” articles were written by “explainers” rather than scientists. When they started pushing Obamacare, I was done.

    • 1539days says:

The new science, where statistics = science or surveys = science. I’m an engineer, which used to separate me from pure scientists. Now an engineer like Bill Nye is a “science” guy.

      • elliesmom says:

I went to engineering school, and I majored in science, but all science majors were required to take a sequence of engineering classes. One of the engineering classes I took was “Controls”, which was mostly a course in statistics. One the most universally useful classes I’ve even taken. I think one of the reasons junk scientists use statistics so much is at the conceptual level most people can understand the purpose behind collecting the data. When it comes to analyzing it, though, most people would get lost in the math. So it’s easy for the junk scientists to sound authoritative, and hard for the lay person to forge an argument against them. I saw a lot of it in education courses in grad school. A lot of educational theory was supported by statistics the students accepted without question. Knowing how to do the math, I was the curmudgeon who questioned the interpretations of the data. It’s a lot like people not understanding “flattening curve”. If you know what that means mathematically, you know it makes a pandemic last longer without fewer deaths unless there’s an intervening act. We’ve yet to have an intervening act.

        • swanspirit says:

And the point of the lockdown, and other restrictions, in flattering the curve, was so the hospitals were not overwhelmed, and we have been past that point for a long while now.

          • swanspirit says:

            * flattening! fu autocorrect.

          • 1539days says:

It’s been proven again and again that lockdowns don’t work on COVID. As soon as it is lifted a little, a country will have a “spike.” In this country, there is little correlation between restrictions and lack of spread. New York waited way too long. California for all its restrictions is in the middle of the pack. The US has about 5 times the per capita death rate, but that includes countries with inhospitable climates and low population movement. US death rates per case detected is about 8% lower than the global average, which means we are either better at treating it, or we are better at testing for it.

        • 1539days says:

Statistical analysis is difficult to test using the scientific method. You would need a set of data, formulate a hypothesis, then obtain an independent, but similar set of data to prove the hypothesis. Correlation without causation and confirmation bias are always dangers. Of course, peer review is useless if your “peers” are engaged in sociopolitical group think.

    • Constance says:

We always had it in the lobby of the lab so I would grab it and read it during incubations. I might still have the one with the double rainbow on the cover from about 35 years ago.

The fix is in guys and lots of the people I know our doctors and lawyers and we’re in a deep load of shit right now you know one of my friends is an immunologist and she was telling me how all the doctor she knows and she’s in her late 50s brilliant all of them talk about how terrible what is going on is. And I’m not talking about covid-19 I’m talking about the nation’s response to covid-19 it’s ass backwards people you know why there were so many deaths in the beginning because politicians tried to be doctors and attorneys tried to be politicians and doctors failed to be doctors in Washington state and New York they demanded that covid-19 patients be admitted into nursing homes that’s what caused all the dust and we have fucking Cuomo writing a book about how he did the best he did the worst do y’all understand that lies now are the truth it’s unbelievable to me that more people in this nation you talk about burning the country down where are the business owners the churchgoers the people who want to mourn their dead burning the police stations and the hospital stay on this is utter stupidity. Masks do nothing repeat after me masks do nothing good all they do is keep disease in you that should be expelled make breathing hard and they make sure that your face is covered with filth and you want to talk about increasing your risk of getting covid-19 wear a mask gloves don’t even get me started gloves are so stupid they make me crazy when I think about it have you ever seen a doctor put on his surgical or her surgical gloves before surgery yeah if you Google and watch the technique and then you’ll understand how stupid wearing gloves is. This is the flu repeat after me nothing more nothing less and what we have allowed to happen is a travesty and it proves Goebbels point you know Hitler is cracking up right now the big lie and Sear makes people do anything kill millions of Jews wear masks and gloves shut the country down. It is time to move on from covid-19 I’m praying that after the election Donald Trump says something like it’s over go back to work it’s an embarrassment people other embarrassment when I think about what we’ve done and the trillion spent I feel like I’m in a nightmare of stupidity can anybody on this blog who thinks that wearing a mask or gloves is going to protect you if you need to break free you need to break free you have an 1800 times greater chance of dying from being struck by lightning than dying of covid. You want to help your body protect itself from covid-19 stop drinking and smoking bump up your vitamin A C D and zinc. End of story it’s time people were on the cusp of losing everything we all have to be leaders in our own way I have started speaking out everywhere I go quietly calmly but it’s time we cannot keep playing the stupid game because pretty soon it will enable those benefiting make it permanent and stupidity will be the new Norm it’s pretty close to almost there. Finally more on point National Geographic NPR public radio public TV have all been co-opted it’s horrible horrible all of these so-called independent sources are completely corrupt biased stupid all of these people have swallowed the Kool-Aid and want more they’re desperate for it climate change racism sexism end of the world America sucks it’s all their guys we got to reclaim the truth we need to get real we need to get it right and we need to take back this country

None of it made sense.
I think my bff from college is in on the cabal. Her hubby tried to run for mayor of Baltimore. He was an ADA in Manhattan and worked at the Hauge. . We spar she has the same talking points I will hear two days later on cnn.
I called out the long term care facilities back in March. She was ready with an argument. Not something a normal person thinks about. I cherish her but think she is part of a “club”
I have known her since we were 19. I know the beat of her language — when we do politics I feel like she is reading a script. One day I came home when we around 22. The vcr was on the sofa with the cord wrapped around it. The change jar was empty. The place was in disarray. I thought she was moving out. I had been randomly sent home from work. I lived three blocks from my job. Sam would give me 50 to leave.
Anyhow I notice all these cigarettes put out on the floor. Christina would never. I saw a few other things that were not right. Seems I walked in on buglars.
Anyhow I called her and she confirmed we were being robbed. It was a hoot. We went out that night. We thus became an idiot. Not idiots. An idiot. We did not qualify as separate people. Just singular idiot. She is my everything. I can or rather could complete her sentences. I almost never yell when i do i call shaypup Christina. Things changed in 2008. I kinda lost my bff over obama. I literally was clad in charcoal jeans and a 200 dollar shirt from Mannequin store (wannamakers?). I had been to Hepburns . three guesses what kind of bar that was. Lesbian is your first clue. I had walked a woman to her car. I did what everyone does after a dyke night. I bought a cheese hoagie, chocholate donuts and a USA Today. Walk out of WAWA and the guns go off. I is no hero. I went to the sound. I did get me a woman with a bullet to the head. I executed my degree Igot from General Hospital. I put my pathetic hands on her holes in her head. Coppers showed up. They did not want me to remove my hands so they threw us collectively in paddy wagon. Bitch was gurgling blood all over my 200 dollar shirt. I cannot die I have three kids. Blah, blah, blah until we got to ER. I held her the whole way. I am a cunt. We get to hospital— cops had me call home. She was South Philly. I found her number on a cable bill. Her 9 year old son answered the phone. I was on a pay phone. All i could say was get hh
Yere. Maryanne did not die. She was shot in the head. My silly arms kept her alive.

I am smitten by Ricky Rebel. I didn’t know why. It took me days, weeks?
I was not given a chance to come out. I was one of Hthose everyone spoke about in hushed tones. I was uncle arther. I had me too shit. No one cared. I dusted myself off. I have my pup. She matters to me — i do not live in 1982. I decided to move on. I read/hear Allyssa Milano and I want to throat punch myself. What does she know/understand??? Has she been a urinal. I have. I know the sting of pee in your eye. I used to sit alone under a street light and read books. I told my parents I had freinds. I hid under a blaring spotlight. Whatever. A new day arrives. You kill yourself or you survive. I have Shayla Rayne. Please I would steal lyrics from Bread. I would give everything I own. Give up my heart my home. Six kids. I was the only one my father saw the need to break bones. Not talking loVe taps. I got ful on punches. Just me.broken bones. Years later i bought The Fountain Head. My dad went to library and read all Ayn Rand. I grew to love my father. We talked about The Brothers Karamozov. I don’t want to reside in 1982. I choose to understand my dad of later years. We read so much. He thought it sunshine that I read it all I mean it all Harry Potter. I articulated every fucking word. Baby girl knows I was there.
I think Vmom has read A Confederacy of Dunces. I love the book. Honestly a favorite. My dad read it when he had hours left. He said you are fucked up. I love it. I is asshole.

I forgot that PDJT was appearing at an ABC townhall last night. Laura Ingraham and others talked about it on her show. As expected, they had audience members (of the Resistance) asking pre-planned questions. An ambush. And George Stephanopoulos “fact checking” his answers and arguing with him. I love our President, he is fearless. Who else would take on the enemy like that?

I do recruiting for the TCH Posse on Facebook ( very very private group, field tested since 2013) about twice a year. If you’re interested, *friend* me first at Denise Higgins standing in front of a Space Capsule, that RL Denise. I vet TCHers harder than the media did Obama in 2008.

If you join FB that is 😀

    From Obviously Ion on Parler:
There once we’re some folks who liked to appease,
For the mob they’d get down on their knees.
    But the mob wouldn’t stop,
For them the penny must soon drop,
Or their livelihoods will float off in the breeze.

No newsies asked about the peace deals at today’s presser. They were obsessed with covid deaths. One newsie asked why Trump said Biden was a pedophile and used drugs.
