Saturday Night Open Thread: Neil Diamond Edition

Yeah, we need this, social media break Yeaaaaaaaahhh (h/t The HodgeTwins 😉 )

Ooops, this was a mistake link from a comment I screwed up. But I still liked it….even TCH isn’t perfect, of course I could have edited it to make me look “smarter” and definitely not working harder 😉

Okay, this should be Neil….

I miss our old TCH Saturday night “sock hops”.

Sidebar: RGB was Brooklyn born and raised, Mayor DB, in less than 24 hours of her passing approved and commissioned her statue in NYC.

Since Trump is probably going to elect a woman do you think the sexual assault accusers will be men or women? It would be entertaining to see Progressive men crawling out of the shadows to accuse a woman judge of forcing them to have sex with her when they were both 17,

      • Somebody says:

If we see sexual accusers I think they’ll be clerks or other employees claiming discrimination or poisoned workplace type things. You might have some supposed former lover pop up, maybe even provide salacious details.

I think they are far more likely to go after ethics type things. They’ll make a mountain out of a molehill, insinuate whoever is dirty and crooked. Cheated on her taxes, paid her nanny under the table.

Outside chance they debate head on Roe or religious beliefs……nah, the nominee is a thief, liar, crooked attorney/judge, far right wing
lunatic……maybe alt-right, maybe Pepe makes an appearance. She also has a seedy underside, she’s a slut or a cheat, maybe she was a mean girl in grade school or high school and her victims will come forth and share tales of having their lunch money stolen.

Wait, wait, wait……racist, she’s a racist. Yep, that’s it she’s a racist! The entire theme of 2020 is racist so it’s logical any SCOTUS nominee is.

Remember what they did to Nikki Haley? They are not above dragging out some obscure pool boy, or “former lover”. I think they get their scripts from movies like Legally Blonde

Steamy Details Of Governor Nikki Haley’s Alleged Affair Leaked From ‘Tome of Love’
Republican South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was plagued before by allegations of an extramarital affair with Will Folks, the founding editor of the conservative blog FITSNews and now he’s back again. Only this time he plans on spilling his juicy accusations in a new book, an excerpt of which has now been revealed.

The alleged tempestuous story, as described by Folks:

We never took our clothes off that first night, but the physical relationship between us progressed much faster than I expected. . . . I asked her why she let me kiss her earlier that night and she said she didn’t know – a theme that would evolve and expand over the next few months as our affair blossomed.

      • Woke Lola says:

Oh no. They might try to find some male clerk who clerked for her 15 years ago, but my guess is they will use the much simpler fight design of sheer fright over an evil, controlling conservative woman-gollum who will force your uterus open with a specula and force you to bear guns with it. They like that WWII style make-the-enemy-animals propaganda these days, and it’s a natural fit with the old-school culture wars.

        • DeniseVB says:

When I found out she’s a grad of Notre Dame Law and a professor there also, my first thought was that school vets students and faculty tougher than the SCOTUS process. It will be the evil Catholic girl angle and I’m sure they’ll go after her with the always popular “keep your rosaries away from my ovaries” chants. 😛

I bet you all think Sweet Caroline is my favorite Neil Diamond song with my being from Boston and all, but it’s actually this one-

    • helenk3 says:

did you know that this song is about a bottle of rose wine

      • DeniseVB says:

When i read that young Caroline Kennedy was his inspiration for the song, it kinda creeped me out. Euwww, right?

        • Mt.Laurel says:

Heard that as well and I went 😱? have to go look, I know I read more recently that he has denied ever saying she was the inspiration. Claimed someone made the original quote up because they thought it was cute. But it was when Caroline was getting some really bad press, so he could have just been trying to distance himself. Or he figured it would be taken differently than it was when the song was first released and wanted to avoid accusations.

      • elliesmom says:

Yes, there’s actually a sparkling rose called “Cracklin'”. It’s a fun wine bottled by Heritage Estates. 🙂

    Mark R. Levin @marklevinshow

    1. Susan Collins and Mitt Romney don’t run this country. If they want to leave open the possibility that a Democrat might appoint the next Supreme Court justice, their constituents should punish them at the ballot box.
    2. But there’s nothing unconstitutional, unlawful, immoral, improper, or hypocritical about the president nominating a candidate and the Senate confirming him or her.
    3. In fact, it would be absurd for a Republican president not to nominate, and a Republican Senate not to act, on filling a Supreme Court vacancy. This is what all presidents have done under similar circumstances.
    4. The only controversy is the one the Democrats and their media mouthpieces seek to create, as with most things.

Dems didn’t pull the “nuclear option” with the Supreme Court because they got way more bang for their buck gate-keeping Republican appointees. The ABA supports Democrat nominees and terms like “moderate” get applied to them.

That’s a lot of false statistics. Every president since Reagan has had put 2 justices on the bench. So, during the last 6 picks, 4 were made by president who had a majority of the popular vote, but all won the electoral vote.

If we expand to the last 8, 2 were made by Bill Clinton, who did not manage to get a majority of the popular vote in either election. Of course, there is not a national popular vote because a few populous states would override the sovereignty of the smaller states. Liberals are fine with that because their coronavirus breeding grounds are somehow far superior to flyover country.

There won’t be enough vaccine available by then so it would be impossible to do, but even more than that, that’s just not in Charlie Baker’s wheelhouse. He instituted a travel ban in MA and then put so many holes in it, it was more like a welcome mat. I’m going to say this is fake.

      • Constance says:

There is no way I would vaccinate a child for Covid. Some people will get sick from the vaccine and healthy children are not suffering from Covid. There is no reason for a child to take the vaccine risk.

We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices. We have this obligation, without delay!

The “lame duck” rule is (one party controls the WH v. the other party controls the Senate) is falling on deaf ears according to my social media. BUT, that only applies to second terms. It was applied to both GWB and Obama by Biden and Harry Reid.

  19. elliesmom says:

When I was a little girl, I had much older brothers. Like 8, 9, and 10 years older than I am. When I played games with them, they never let me win. If I wanted to beat them at a game of skill, I had to learn how to play the game better than they did. Now, they weren’t mean. They often played games with me where winning was pure chance, but they quickly learned I preferred games of skill so they taught me how to play. Without breaking my arm patting myself on the back (because they would have agreed), I was smarter than they were. At 10, I could trounce them at any game that requires mental acquity. They were bigger, faster, and stronger than I was, and I was smart enough not to challenge them to a boxing match, but bring out a chessboard, and I owned them.

My younger brother is 9 years younger than I am. By the time he was old enough to play games, the older boys had left home. I tried to follow the same path my older brothers had followed with me. Don’t let him win unless he earns it, but play enough games of chance with him he’s not always the loser until he learns how to win at games of skill. I’m not sure my mother paid much attention when I was playing games with my older brothers. We were being quiet and not getting into trouble so she didn’t have to. But my little brother threw a temper tantrum everytime he lost. If he couldn’t win following the rules, then he’d try to change the rules. Even if the game was won or lost on a roll of the dice and not based on skill. My mom would step in and chastise me for not “letting him win occasionally”. I was a teenager with a lot of better things to do than play games with a whiny little brother so my solution was not to play games with him. My brother remembers it as I stopped playing games with him when he got better at them than I was. The reality is my brother doesn’t know how to play chess, backgammon, checkers, scrabble, Monopoly, or any game requiring strategy because I stopped teaching him. The only card game he knows is Go Fish!.

Why this story this morning? Because I’ve been listening to the talking heads. The Democrats do politics the way my brother tried to play games. Whine if you don’t win. Throw the game pieces all over the floor. Change the rules to favor yourself. Tell the world your sister cheated because she’s smarter than you are.

    • DeniseVB says:

My dd is 7 and 9 years younger than her brothers. Thank gawd I got my tubes tied after her birth. Once she reached adulthood, she blamed all her miseries on her brothers. Not as much on her “Special Greg” bro, as her Older Bro for tormenting her. Still can’t figure that one out.

      • elliesmom says:

My brother and I do OK as adults. As Elliesdad, who loved my little brother like he was his own, would say, “When you’re shooting fish in a barrel, aometimes you have be sympathetic to the poor fish and stop shooting.” My brother thinks I’ve been more successful in life than he’s been because of who I married. I just point out to him that’s part of my being smarter than he is. 😉

Last I heard/read, Biden put a lid (unavailable) on the press yesterday morning. I also read that Jill pulled out her Stroke Card to cover for Joe’s history of strokes and brain surgery. So we’re not allowed to “make fun” of his dementia anymore? Just trying to play by the new rules 😛

I like it and the Dems would probably go to Iran willingly. Maybe Iran would hold them for ransom, could we get that lucky? We could answer the ransom demand …”who cares, you can keep them.”

My bad, I laughed at that accordion video, it was almost too funny to believe it was a lefty meme.

Ms Judge Amy was on the short list for the Kavanaugh appointment. Why is this such a shock to the left? Biden hasn’t even released his SCOTUS wish list. Black and Woman is all he’s hinted at?

      • Constance says:

Well that’s enough from Biden. I don’t want Justices to be picked by skin color or genitals. So Biden is out.

“Since we’re going to play this stupidest possible game, then play it as hard as possible. I want the nomination Monday, the vote Tuesday, and the swearing in on Wednesday. Hearings are an insulting joke. Everyone knows how everyone will vote. Just do this thing.”

    • Constance says:

I’d like to see President Trump nominate a ethnic woman, let Democrats tear her to shreds for a few weeks, when she calls Democrats racist and sexist and withdraws, then President Trump nominates Ted Cruz, no hearings are held and he is immediately voted in to the Supreme Court. I just like the drama of that situation. It’s not often you can out drama Democrats.

This is what I think should happen. McConnell should issue a statement something like this-

After some reflection I think I might have been wrong not to bring Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Senate for a hearing and a vote. I knew his nomination would not be passed in the Senate, and given the partisan rancor that has taken place during modern Supreme Court confirmation hearings, at the bottom of my reasoning was my thought it would be kinder to not take up his nomination than to subject him to innuendo and character assassination when the seat would not be his. In this spirit I’m going to respectfully ask President Trump to add Merrick Garland’s name to his list of people under consideration for future openings on the Court. Of course, this time the people have asked that Justice Ginsburg’s seat on the Court continue to be occupied by a confident and competent woman. I hope all of my colleagues in the Senate will cooperate with making that happen swiftly and smoothly, much like Justice Ginburg’s own confirmation was.

If I haven’t mentioned it before, Betsy DeVos is my current heroine.
