Stinkin’ Thinkin’

So many things wrong with this tweet.

We’ll take our Biden victory; we’ll continue to organize and fight for a progressive America; and we’ll say goodbye to Bill Maher.

First and foremost, Biden didn’t win anything.  There is no “Biden victory,” yet, nor should there ever be.  It isn’t a win until the final whistle blows, the last out is recorded, or the bell rings.  As Yogi Berra said, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”

But even if Biden is officially declared the winner, it won’t be a victory.  Winners never cheat.

we’ll continue to organize and fight for a progressive America

In a democratic system like ours (a democratic republic) you don’t “fight” for change.  Fighting involves violence.  When you think of politics as a fight you are adding violence to the mix.  Winning in a democratic system means persuasion, not coercion.

Borrowing a quote from Lola in the last thread:

“If you want to remove a cloud from your life, remove it from your thinking.”

Remove violence from your thinking. And while you’re at it, remove racism.

we’ll say goodbye to Bill Maher.

I got a better idea. Let’s say goodbye to “cancel culture.”

They’re awfully quiet over there, I must say. Usually people who feel like they honestly won would raise all kinds of hell, but the whole left seems to be holding its breath waiting for the other shoe to fall. That’s exactly how misbehaving, guilty people act.

Cute story about the girls. I reinforced all around my fence but the beagle still found a way out. Bell was going crazy. I ran out in my pj’s, no shoes running around looking for her yelling her name. Came home Bell was losing her mind. I put on her leash and she found Gracie in under 5 minutes. She can only go out now with me until I have my brother figure out how to secure the area. It just amazes me how Bell came in and told on her. And then once we got outside she knew exactly where to find her. I love dogs.

      • Somebody says:

That is a cute story, how sweet Bell found her sister. Hopefully the storm will pass quickly. Enjoy the snuggle time with your girls.

WordPress just de-platformed The Conservative Treehouse due to content not meeting their standards. No examples of violations given, no second chance, nothing. As of December 3rd they are kicked off WordPress.

The treehouse has active moderators and does not allow cursing, racist comments, antisemitic comments, etc., they police their site. Sundance hasn’t even posted much lately, mostly open threads, but they are a large conservative site so they are being disappeared.

For that reason I suggested we have a backup plan because if this is a purge, which it appears to be the beginning of, it’s only a matter of time before they purge the crawdad hole.

          • swanspirit says:

It wouldn’t surprise me, to know that we were already on a list. It wouldn’t surprise me to find that the deplatforming is based on size of readership, or traffic.

Ditto too. I think it’s because we’ve had all the tick, tock, soon we’ll have them for 4 years now. Sidney generally doesn’t write checks she can’t cash. Neither does Lin Wood and he’s been saying more than Sidney.

Once, just once, I hope with all my heart our side has the goods and it is irrefutable. But, I’ve been let down so many times I’m not counting on it. I’ll assume it’s more of the same tick tock and be pleasantly surprised if it isn’t.

Irrefutable proof or not, we would still be relying on some profiles in courage on the bench, in state legislatures and the halls of congress. 😳

Bill Maher doesn’t get the democrats does he? He doesn’t understand that there is no room for what he calls common sense has long departed the power grabbing whacked and wicked bad people running the party. He doesn’t understand the Democrats of old of which he speaks are long gone, and replaced with lawless Marxist communist fanatics.
    They will happily cancel him.

    • 1539days says:

Bill Maher has this idea that there’s an ideal Democratic Party that agrees with what he wants, which is probably from the 1960’s where he occasionally acts like he lives in. His audience was mostly quiet during that monologue because they don’t even know what to think when someone counters the orthodoxy.

The Democrats have welcomed so many malcontents in their party that they can’t keep a coalition for a week. When they do, the “moderate” ones (meaning red state dems who claim to be centrist) lose. Democrats got Obamacare passed, but 52 Democrats lost their House seats and another 14 retired and their seats went to Republicans. Nasty Pelosi has a smaller “majority” and the Democrats are delusional if they think Georgia is going to turn the tide in the Senate.

    • Somebody says:

Oh I disagree about Georgia. The fraud will be so off the charts it’ll make November 3rd, 2020 look like child’s play. Dems play dirty and they play for keeps.

We all have our virtues. Patience is mine. It might be my only one so it’s probably good it’s so strong. I always thought “God grant me patience- NOW!” was funny, but for so many people it rings true. Things often need some time to play out. Rushing doesn’t help.

The good news is most likely if there was a tornado is was a small and weak one, an EF-0. Although the east coast can get tornadoes generally they don’t get the monsters that we see in tornado alley.

Also known as the canyon effect in the city. Got caught in one while on a stand by ticket line for Letterman on the side of the Sullivan theater. Not really a tornado, just a really bad thunderstorm micro burst that blew us into the building while ducking projectiles off the street. I remember that…..and not getting a ticket anyhow.

        • Somebody says:

Wow that sounds scary Denise and you still didn’t get tickets, bummer. We get micro bursts here in Florida a lot, but we have a lot of thunderstorms. We do sometimes get tornadoes, but they’re usually small. Nothing like I’ve seen in Oklahoma😲 or even Alabama.

        • lateblum says:

I know exactly what those microbursts are like. Two summers in a row there were microbursts while I was attending an art fair in the downtown area of my town. The microburst took out several exhibitors’ art tents and destroyed much art work not only by those artists, but also by others who were able to “save” their art tents. It happened on two different but intersecting streets in those two summers. We were also sent into a major building during those storm bursts. Very scary and very dangerous not to mention very costly for those artists.

Note: all 195 Rs in the US House who voted against impeachment won re-election. The state Rs know that –and they also know (1) in statewide elections the blue cities *always* hold results back to see how many votes they need & (2) the Trump voters in their states exist, are alive & live in their districts.

If Trump pulls this off, we can be grateful to these state legislatures for having balls & for the genius of our founding fathers.

They were then packaged into non-descript cardboard boxes and dropped off outside the Philadelphia Convention Center.”

Over half your college spent remotely learning or under big bird’s thumb. Imagine being from Sandusky, Ohio— bust your ass on the piano and get into one of the most prestigious schools in the world in one of the most vibrant cities. 18 filled with dreams to be locked down for a year and a half for a bug that has an extremely low fatality rate for anyone between 18 and 24.

It will ultimately be his decision, and the financial considerations are different for us (university here is essentially tuition-free, and because of his age I am hoping that if he ends up at a school that isn’t local, he’ll be in a city where he can live with relatives)–but I just don’t see how university students can really learn 100% behind a screen. Especially if they are doing any kind of science.

Thanks for the suggestion. Virgin River is a nice distraction. It reminds me of an older show called “Hart of Dixie”. Young woman, doctor instead of nurse, Alabama instead of Northern California, A younger Tim Matheson plays the doctor who resents her. An attractive guy owns a bar where everyone congregates. I don’t know if Hart of Dixie is playing anywhere, but if you like one, you’ll like the other.

    • Mothy67 says:

      It’s on netflix.
Whatever you do don’t waste your time on Ratched. I was hoping it would be a darker show.
Ugh. Ryan Murphy has over extended himself. His stuff always seems to fall apart midway through for me. This is like a rejected AHS script. I watched it while getting to know Parler.
I guess his niche is to write everything gay. It gets a bit tiring when it’s in the same vein time after time.

      • elliesmom says:

I watched a couple of episodes of Ratched. I had expected more of the Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest than patients being lobotomized with power drills. There’s dark and there’s dark. Sarah Poulson’s wardrobe is to die for. I’m guessing she has more income than a nurse had at the time the show is set. Maybe in the future story that will be a plot point. In the beginning it just feels like a fashion show. The show is classified as a psychological thriller. Maybe that vibe will grow as the story goes on, but right now I’m absorbed in The Undoing on HBO so I’ve been looking for other kinds of distractions.

The Undoing is very good. I’d like to see it less piecemeal. It’s like the first time they put Psycho on Saturday Night at the Movies. There’s nothing about Psycho that needs a big screen, but the commercials broke the tension. The Undoing has a great cliffhanger at the end of every episode, but after a week goes by, your tension meter has been reset to zero. The Queen’s Gambit caught me up in the story. Virgin River is an escape into a non-crazy soap opera-y world for a little bit. The Undoing is edgy. It’s been a nice mix this week. I will probably finish watching Ratched at some point, but it’s not the right vibe right now.

        • Mothy67 says:

When I say dark I don’t mean gratuitous violence. I like the undercurrent of mystery. Iago dark. Murphy had to spell out all the motivations. Boring. I also wasn’t crazy about the split screen and overwhelming music. They reminded me I was watching a show.
I saw the first episode of the Undoing. Really enjoyed. I will wait until all have aired and then binge. Why have hbo for three months. I look forward to seeing The Stand remake. CBS All Access is airing it over 10 weeks. I’ll wait for it to finish as well and then get a month. Not worth 30 bucks to watch one mini series especially with whoopie goldberg in a central role.
Peacock is now available on ROKU. I enjoyed Mr. Mercedes. Season 1 is available for the free ad soonsored option. Someone gave me the book years ago long before deplorables was a thing. It was the first King I had read in 35 years. I devoured him in h.s. I kept thinking as I read it that he was a true racist. His depictions of people of color are so stereotypical, generic. The mini series does not go that route, thankfully. I did like it.

          • elliesmom says:

Stephen King is from Bangor, Maine. His house looks like a haunted mansion, and it’s surrounded by an eerie wrought iron fence. He donated the money for the town’s Little League field, and it’s called The Field of Screams. The man has a sense of humor. I’ve always thought King is at his best when his horror is colored with that humor. I can’t collect the dust bunnies under my bed without thinking of Dolores Claiborne and laughing. I’ve never found any of his books particularly scary. Intriguing, yes. They usually can’t capture what’s going on inside the characters’ heads in his best books well enough to adequately translate them into movies. The best of his psychological thrillers barely resemble the movies they turned them into, and the others are in the category of “Creature Double Features”. “Misery” probably comes the closest to its book. Kathy Bates does crazy very well, and you don’t have to get inside her head to guess what she’s going to do next.

          • Mothy67 says:

I read he doesn’t take a penny for any adaptations. 24 of his works are in some stage of production. Most of them shorts. So likely young filmmakers putting together a reel. Adapting a short story is a lot easier than a novel or writing from scratch.
Very generous. He also takes scale for his cameos. He has to take it because of union rules or so I read.
Even as a kid I didn’t find anything scary in his words. Depraved characters, but not frightening. The Stand was one of the first novels I read on my own. I was 11. I can still recall vividly how my mind’s eye envisioned it. Thought the first mini series was cheesy as are most of the adaptations. I look forward to the new.

My in-laws retired to coastal Maine, and Bangor had the closest large hospital. My MIL spent a lot of time in the hospital, and I spent a fair amount of time walking around the city. City is a relative term. No city in Maine is very big. But King is a beloved resident, and his influence shows up everywhere whether it’s the ballfield or all of the wrought iron with bats in its design in the parks. He’s a very generous resident. There are not a lot of places to spend money in Bangor.

          • jadzia1971 says:

When we lived in Waterville there was an adorable little somewhat-fancy shopping district near Bangor where my mom and I would go to window-shop. (For some reason, Taylor Swift’s “The Best Day” video reminds me of when we used to do that, sob.)

…. and I just realized that it was actually Augusta. Hallowell, to be exact. Charming AF. I still remember the Christmas plaid stirrup pants and yellow silk shirt my mom bought me there one winter. PEAK 80S.

“The Crown” is back and I’m looking forward to watching it. I think the cast from last season is just great. I especially like Olivia Colman and Philip Menzies. Even the person who played Prince Charles was better than in the first season, imho.

I’m sure glad Candace is on our side, though I hate all the infighting amongst the Young Conservatives trying to get a larger piece of the pie for themselves. Noticeably, Prosobeic, Cernovich, Charlie Kirk, Brandon, all seem to be tossing barbs at each other…..some were at the DC march, some weren’t? Win or lose this election, the road to 2024 is going to be interesting……

I 💓 Candace. Was never onboard with Brandon. I do like my T though.

Besides my suffragist grandmother, the first real feminist who influenced my life was my ancient Latin teacher. She was in her 70s when she was my teacher and still going strong after I graduated. She was single, but she said, “Once upon a time there were two people who met and fell madly in love. They never married, and they both lived happily ever after.” She said she was afraid women would forget “when men are men, women are happier for it”, and that “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world”. Wanting it all shouldn’t negate treasuring what you already have. She scared the bejesus out of a lot of the kids, but I found her delightful. 🙂

I love Candace, too❤ And I love that she said “Bring back manly men” Those soy boys and pajama boys are poor excuses for men.

You know who was there and not seeking the spotlight? Scott Pressler, I saw him casually walk by in one of the videos just part of the crowd.

      • DeniseVB says:

Scott is a national treasure, he rarely mentions money, he just does his thing and people will naturally throw money at him. 🙂 He just mentioned maybe running for office.

My mom is finally in surgery. My poor sister is forced to stay in a specific waiting room and cannot leave. There is another woman in there watching BLM protest videos on her phone with the volume turned all the way up. My sister has informed us we may need to pony up for her bail.🤣🤣

If you knew my sister you’d laugh even harder, she’s the most buttoned up, prim and proper woman you can imagine. My brother has suggested she start coughing and ask the woman if it seems hot in there and can she check sis’s forehead to see if she might be feverish

    • swanspirit says:

I like the coughing idea. 😎

    • Mothy67 says:

Typical of the left. There are few things more stressful than waiting for a loved one to get out of surgery. Blasting divisive protest porn is beyond self absorbed. Asshole.

    • Somebody says:

My sister just left, she doesn’t care if they said she can or not. The BLM bitch had them turn TV on with volume blasting “The View”. BLM bitch is rocking and rolling adding commentary. My sister said she’s out.

My prog sister in CA, weighed in🙄 Have to follow the rules. I piped in, we’re Floridians with a strong pirate history, we don’t follow rules ARGH! Sis here went off on other sis about the women of the view, calling them all sorts of names🤣🤣 Those two are thick as thieves, they rarely fight🤣

Oh, oh, newsflash just as sis approached door doctor appeared, mom is out of surgery he’s going to let her go back to mom’s recovery room momentarily. So she just has to do deep breathing through 5 minutes of the view and BLM bitch. Doctor may do something sister said he cut eyes and sighed, seemed very perturbed by anctics

      • Somebody says:

Sis still hasn’t gone back. Mom’s out, but apparently not awake yet. A red plus appeared on board by her name, sis asked what that meant. Person at desk simply snapped back at her you’re mother is fine, we’ll let you go back when we decide it’s appropriate

At least the view is almost over🙄 Sis is getting concerned, but there hasn’t been any codes or people rushing around that she’s seen

        • Somebody says:

My mom is back in her room, actually in a different room, WTF🙄 Sis never got to go to recovery room, they simply came out and told her mom was back in her room, but she wasn’t, because she’s in another room. So my sister went on a bit of a wild goose chase at first, but not too much just on a different corridor.

Anyway, surgery went well according to doctor. Mom’s BP spiked, but they got it under control. Mom is still very groggy and doctor said she’ll probably sleep most of today and tonight due to combo of anesthesia and not having slept for over 24 hours due to pain. He told sis not to worry that is normal and she’s being monitored at nurses station.

He said PT starts tomorrow morning, they will assess mom. That assessment will determine release and rehab requirements. His initial thought, release Thursday or Friday and about 10 days of rehab.

Her hip joint is fine, but a pretty nasty fracture in her femur. They had to put a rod in the bone, plus plates and screws. He said her bones are actually in very good shape, he expected osteoporosis. He said given what good shape her bones are in he’s surprised at the severity of the fracture, had to be one of those she fell just the right way kind of things.

He expects a full recovery, although a bit slow due to her age. Still absolutely no reason found for why she fell. She didn’t have a stroke as rescue suggested. They’ve run all sorts of tests and consulted multiple doctors. They have no explanation, but she literally went from fine chatting, walking to dining room to total collapse in an instant.

If ProgSister is so intent on rule-following, my suggestion would be for her to get her rule-following self over and help the sister that’s on the ground.
Best of luck to you, your Mom, and the non-prog Sister.

Or, you could sneeze into your elbow. That way no one can tell if it’s authentic. People usually scatter when I do that in the grocery store…….. Even though I have a mask covering my face, the sneeze seems to say “The plague! The plague!” like nothing else…
I hope your mother recovers well from all this trauma.

  53. Mothy67 says:

What do you think the appropriate punishment should be for voter fraud? It is theft from everyone of us that voted legally.
I think any non citizen should be deported. What for those who coerce people in nursing homes or buy votes? Complete for deceased? College kids in other states registering in both places and voting absentee in one?
Is it a federal crime, state or both?
Mandatory 5 years plus a significant fine? It is an attempt to overthrow the government.

    • elliesmom says:

Voting fraudulently is mostly a federal crime. New Hampshire put out a cheat sheet.

    • Somebody says:

I think deporting illegals should be a no brainer. Beyond that, probably a sliding scale depending on number of votes, etc. One stupid college student is not the same as someone organizing buses of students to commit vote fraud. One family member voting for a comatose relative is not the same as some evil person at a nursing home withholding food until a ballot is signed. Fraud on a massive scale should carry severe punishment.

Unfortunately the odds are nobody will be punished for squat. This happens all the time and nothing comes of it. It’s estimated millions of illegals vote in every election. In Arizona anyone that can’t prove citizenship is given a federal only ballot, so they vote in federal but not state or local races. California and other states simply don’t give a shit and let them vote.

Even here in Florida where we actively watch our voter lists, illegals vote. In 2012 a local TV station did an investigative series. This was in SW Florida, they found 3,400 or 3,800 illegals voted. They tracked these people down and interviewed most of them and most thought nothing of it. That number of votes is enough to tip numerous elections here. Not a damn thing happened to the illegals that voted, they were purged from the rolls but no charges, nothing.

Fraud happens on both sides, but I think more heavily on the D side. I know in 2008 and 2012 buses of students from our local university voted early here and then were sent to Ohio to vote on election day. My son knew people that went, they thought it was cool, they were such rebels making sure Obama won. Conversely, the former local GOP chair in my county ran a home for mentally infirmed. He got caught in fraud using his patients to vote for his wife. He actually got punished, but it was a fine and he lost his state contract for the facility. His wife won and went on to higher and higher office. She’s currently out of office due to term limits, but keeps running for different offices every election cycle

Because it happens on both sides, nobody wants to lift the hood up and take a look. We the people do, but the powers that be sure don’t.

Were you ever on a train or dispatching during a tornado watch? Those things could tear up the tracks or fell a tree . lift a car off the tracks? Never thought about that before, but never thought of a twister in Manhattan.

      • elliesmom says:

I’ve only seen a tornado up close and personal once. I was in a K-Mart north of Chicago on the Cook/Lake County line. They kicked us all out of the store. The tornado was moving west to east pretty much down the county line. I drove due south a few miles. It’s pretty flat there so I could still see it, and I watched it roar through. I’ll take a hurricane anytime over one of those suckers.

      • helenk3 says:

No but I was during earthquakes. All trains are stopped if it is above a 5.1.
        funny story
1st time I was dispatching during an earthquake, everyone was watching to see how I would react. It was a small one and it felt like when the coal train would go by my house in PA. So I was not upset

  55. helenk3 says:

so should we all pretend to be black now to get our money back from the government?
