I was in Evanston and in a small crowd. I don’t remember if it was an art fair, or near the transportation center. A tall, bulky, guy came toward me and it felt like he was coming AT me. I don’t recall what was written on his black tee shirt, but he was swearing at those of us who were around him and was very threatening towards me and others. He really had hate in his eyes.. like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It might’ve been around the time of the George Floyd (?) death. I was knocked over on a running path one time by a person who had that same look in her eyes. They mean business and they like to target small people who can hardly fight back. Angry, hateful cowards…

Judge said Wood didn’t have standing and that garden variety election disputes belong in state court.

I’m pretty sure this judge Pryor is on POTUS’s list of potential SCOTUS picks. There was a judge Pryor on the short list at least once, twice I think. The articles I read stated judge Pryor is too conservative and too much of a “firebrand” to get through senate. If this is the same Pryor that’s concerning. Probably is, how many could we have down here?

Have you heard Nicole Kidman do Something Stupid?

    • Mothy67 says:

I did not care for her in the early years. She was Mrs. Tom Cruise which in and of itself was gross.
Somehow she won me over playing adults. I thought she was everything that was Big Little lies. I dibn’t know that she had a very competent voice. Moulon Rouge is not my thing. I love Dream a Little Dream and her rendition is very tender. I looked up her music. What a pleasant voice. I will always be a fan of early Olivia Newton John. A voice that reminds me of a clean clear glass of ice cold water on a hot day – refreshing as it were. Nicole has that same quality. Crisp and clear.

    • elliesmom says:

I’m not really much of a Nicole Kidman fan. I knew she had done her own singing in “Moulin Rouge”, and when I heard “Dream a Little Dream” in the beginning of “The Undoing”, I was pretty sure it was her. There are a few movies where she had a starring role that I’ve really liked, but Kidman isn’t the main reason I liked the movie. “Cold Mountain” is one example. I had to remind myself she was in it. I really hated “Big Little Lies”, but it’s Reese Witherspoon I blame for bastardizing the book beyond all recognition. In the HBO series, even the lies get lost in the telling, but Kidman is probably the only one whose casting made dense. Given the personal choices Kidman has made, it wasn’t hard to believe her as the elegant lawyer with an abusive husband.

“Now I am going to drop a bomb – because in America’s core circle of power we have ‘old friends'”
then an anecdote about him setting up a last minute book launch of Xi’s book in DC just before his state visit in 2015
he can’t get the desired venue because the owner, a Dem btw, is “arrogant” that it’s prebooked and rebuff’s implied bribe offer opportunity
so this guy tells his higher up
next thing he knows they have the venue courtesy of an “old friend’
old friend in this case ( he met at the book launch) is an American woman who speaks fluent mandarin because she lives mainly in China running the Asian operations of a big banking firm
He says she’s Jewish and mentions a big nose (he does)
She boasts to him that not only does she speak Mandarin but she has Chinese citizenship
(dual citizenship is not allowedby CCP btw)
      more interesting details in video

ending up he says so these friends, friends in Wall Street, they can work with Biden.
As you’ve heard in the news, Biden’s son is on the boards of all these wall street companies

When I tried to enroll my daughter in Catholic school, the headmistress had been told she couldn’t accept any students who didn’t have a parent willing to work the weekly Bingo game one night a month. How cliche is that? 🙂 My dad had worked the American Legion Bingo game for years, and he said if I didn’t want to do it, he would do it for her. But ED and I were willing to go, and we usually both went. One of the “regulars” playing the game was the local parish priest.

He got questioned a lot about the “sins of gambling”. When you got him really going, he’d tell you about who he’d excommunicate if he could. This was in the late 80s. He’d explain that divorce was not an excommunicatable offense if you never married again. Turning wine into grapes was a method of preservation so there was no sin in drinking. Playing Bingo to raise money for the church was an alternative to tithing. No different than buying pastry at a church bake sale. However, Catholic politicians who didn’t come right out and condemn abortion were at the top of his list for not being welcome at the altar to take communion. Anyone was free to sit in church and hear the scripture, but if one advocated that a woman had a right to kill her unborn child, there were no indulgences one could pay to get right with the Catholic Church. It was not enough to say, “I don’t believe in it myself, but I support the right of a woman to make her own decision.”

I admit I found it fun to wind Father Reagan up to see what happened. The kids at the school adored him. Years later, I called him to go to a Catholic friend sorely in need of some help, and he was right there. The kind of priest they’ve made movies about. But knowing him like I did, I have to wonder what kind of priest lets people like Biden and Pelosi participate in the sacraments of the Catholic Church. What’s in it for the Church to give them a pass?

I worked bingo selling the specials with my nanny (grandmother) i also sold fresca and tab. I went from bingo to cleaning banks after with her. The Glenn Close character in Hillbilly Elegy reminds me of her. Minus the smokes. She was also far more fashionable in her tres chic 70’s polyester. So polite in front of others, but Lordy that woman in a bingo hall could put a drunk sailor to shame.
The movie , to me, was about how it was granny that guided him out of the rut and off to Yale. My nanny had a life. She was considered slut in the 30s/40s. I thought it funny when she was begging meals on wheels for food but could afford smokes. My Olive Ninnetta was not broke. Oh she raped men of all their cash. Man after man. She gave them something to talk about and talk about and talk about.
I loved my Nanny. Lordy she was lazy. I cleaned the banks at 12. She sat on her ass. She taught me how to not be victim because of finances. She was not the cookie baking cheery grandma. She was strong in her own way. Nothing like her in the hollow.
I got to do a lot because my Nanny said fuck em.

  44. Mothy67 says:

    This is an obnoxious question.
Is there a cheaper way than Tampax Pearl? I didn’t take my wallet to the store. I had a 50 dollar gift card to buy dinner, snacks, and breakfast. Sleepover tonight and the “boy” for dinner. I don’t normally add things up, but I only had the 50 card. Brat called and said Aunt Flow was on her way. I had to put things back because a 36 pack of Pearl Sport was ten dollars. I have no idea what 36 means. Do you use more than one a day. I thought about how little 50 dollars buys. I was getting three meals for 5 people over one evening and morning. I hit 50 in a few minutes with not all that much. OJ for a gallon was 6. I thought about being a welfare mom having to buy those and food for tater tots. Ten dollars is steep if you are serving spaghetti and iceberg Salad for dinner. Pre covid I had read about a push for welfare/medicaid to cover feminine hygiene products. I thought it was silly, but I have other thoughts after trying to plan three meals on 50. I don’t normally consider prices in the grocery store. I am far from rich, but you get what you need I was planning on french toast with a fresh fruit salad. English muffins with elderberry jam. I was doing Log Cabin not real syrup ( oh yeah I hide real syrup.) It was over 20 for a modest breakfast for three girls. I didn’t even get to bacon. I was going up and down aisles following arrows to put things back. I can’t imagine trying to feed a family and at the same time needing to spend 10 bucks a month on a necessity like a tampon. I thought the free the pad was silly pre covid, but it is not something that can be avoided. I had 50 to spend then I had 40. I was luxury feeding.
The cost had never dawned on me before.

    • elliesmom says:

A woman should change a tampon every 3-5 hours. They come in different absorbencies, and a woman should choose the ones that will need to be changed about that often. It’s not good hygiene to change them less often. . Women usually find a brand that feels the most comfortable and offers rellable protection. There are store brands, but the best way to save money is to buy in bulk. There are multi-packs which offer different absorbencies in the same package so a woman doesn’t need to have lots of different boxes of tampons. Yes, it can be expensive to be a woman.

This might be a conversation you are uncomfortable having with a teenage girl, BUT I will tell you that “period underwear” is a thing and it’s really great. They are basically underpants with a built-in pad and they come in different thicknesses for heavy and light flow days. I think the leading brand in America is Thinx, and I believe they have a line that is aimed at teenagers. Obviously she can’t wear them while she is swimming and I don’t think they would be great while she is actually doing sports, but for just going to school, sleeping, etc., they are AWESOME. Wash them in the washing machine SEPARATELY OF COURSE. You’ll outlay about $50 to start, but then you never pay again. I absolutely love them and TMI ALERT, when I had an IUD my bed would routinely look like a murder scene throughout my period–until I got the awesome underpants.

This stuff is long term cheap & good.
