  1. Miranda says:

We did our Christmas last night because we’re supposed to get huge storms today, including 50 – 70 mph wind gusts. It was fun, if kind of early.

    • DeniseVB says:

We’re in that prediction zone too ! Local weather guys are having orgasms over a “rare level 3” storm watch. So we went out to look at Christmas lights last night before they all blow into the abyss of doom 😉

  2. Anthony says:

Politico did a story on Trudeau’s beard… no mention of Hunter Biden or election fraud. Nope – the big story is Zoolander’s beard. From what I’ve gleaned from the article, said beard even has a name: ‘Significant’ I kid you not.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

Now did politico also include a discussion of his snappy wardrobe and festive themed costumes? Because that would make their Work standout as top notch fashion reporting. 👡👗👒 /s

Oh my. No way Biden defeated this……….. in Michigan?

    • elliesmom says:

However this works out on January 20th, I will be left with a profound sadness at who in my circle of family, friends, and acquaintances are willing to accept such base dishonesty to get the results they want. Those folks have fallen to the bottom of the heap of people worthy of my respect. As I told my students often, you get my respect free of charge, but when you lose it, the price to regain it is dear.

      • taw46 says:

Same here. Unfortunately I live with two of them. I will say though, not one word has been spoken about this election since 11/3. Maybe they see some of this fraud? Or maybe they are just holding their breath hoping the fraud is complete on 1/20/21. Yeah, I am sure it is the latter. 😢

        • DeniseVB says:

I’m taking it as a good sign with our TDS friends and family, none of mine have mentioned the election either. Maybe they’re having a Come to Jesus moment and realize how stupid their votes were, lol. None of them are talking about the Bidens either, heh.

        • Constance says:

I notice it here in Seattle too. Dead silence. But I have to say I am purposefully not inviting one friend to Christmas dinner (even though I know she is home alone) because my sister has TDS and if there are two or more of them gathered in the name of virtuous Progressivism you can expect non-stop Orange Man Bad at the dinner table. I am not giving them even a chance to rain on my Christmas parade.

      • lateblum says:

Same in my family and friends, too. No one is gloating or even mentioning the election. No. One. I agree they’re holding their collective breaths until January 20 – quite possibly January 6. (If any of them is aware of the significance of the January 6 date.)
I did see a 4ft tall lawn sign that had changed from “RESIST” to “RISE”. I think it’s still there. That sign was posted, first on 5he lawn, then moved to the front porch of the house starting in December, 2016. I used to dream of vandalizing it in true Democrat/ANTIFA spirit.

      • Constance says:

Well said. I too am sad at who and what they are.

        Gentle hug from me😘

        • taw46 says:

I have been thinking about you. How are you feeling today?

          • Somebody says:

I’m really doing fine. This is way better than the first biopsies. They called me today and had me rate my pain🙄 I said a 1, a 2 when I have to go to the bathroom but it’s only a 2 for about 10 minutes. The nurse was like oh come now, I was expecting 4 or 5, at least a 3 are you sure? I said yes I’m sure, maybe that will change but right now I’m doing exceedingly well. Obviously I know it’s there, but it’s just not that bad this go round. The biopsies I had in October were way worse, but those were done by a gynecologist in his office.

          • Mt.Laurel says:

My mother’s Maine coon kitty sends a very very very soft nudge while my tuxedo cat sends a gentle head butt. The fosters are a little too exuberant, even more so than usual as even with the pouring rain they have detected that something is afoot as people turned on their decorations early today and they have been watching the light show. so they are just chittering Happy Christmas Eve from a safe distance. While eying their stocking.🎄 🛷 🧸

    • foxyladi14 says:

      Same to you ❤

    • lyn5 says:

Big hug back and a kiss on doggeh’s head.

  8. elliesmom says:

I’m up and awake at the usual time, but I’m doing some rare pajama baking. I never bake until I get dressed for the day, but today I only want to get dressed once, and I don’t want to sit down at the dinner table covered in flour. I have the sweet dough for the Secret Santa cinna-buns rising. They should be ready to be delivered when Ellie and I go for our walk. The rain isn’t supposed to start until 5 pm so we should be good to go before noon. I can already smell the dough for the garlic knots. I’ll get those baked early, and just warm them tonight. Roast is in the sous vide.I have to boil the potatoes so I can smash them and roast them with the popovers. My son hates most vegetables, but he likes brussels sprouts. Must be all the bacon and cheese. They can go in the oven with the popovers, too. When the first rise for the yeast doughs are done, I can shower and get dressed. Then find an uplifting movie to watch and finish the one glove I have left to do. I don’t need it for a couple of weeks so it’s not a rush.

    • Somebody says:

I love brussel sprouts, my kids not so much. Your recipe sounds like one of mine with the bacon and cheese, my kids eat them cooked that way. I have a new sprout recipe, I roast them in the oven and then toss in some honey, cinnamon butter, again a hit with the kids.

When my daughter was in treatment the nutritionist visited us fairly regularly. She collected a list of things my daughter liked and devised her menus from that list. They put brussel sprouts boiled, no seasoning on my daughter’s plate. She didn’t touch them. There were several other items my daughter had a similar reaction too.

The nutritionist returns perplexed, little somebody you said you like these things. My daughter says I only like them when my mom cooks them. The nutritionist turns to me and asks me how is it you prepare X, Y, and Z that Sarah likes? I share my recipes. The nutritionist smiles and says “My Mrs. X, you have a real talent for taking the healthiest of foods and turning into utter garbage”. Swear to God she said that. To this day when I put certain dishes on the table, brussel sprouts being chief among them in unison the family says “My Mrs. X you have a real talent, etc.” 🤣 It’s a running family joke😉

I hope you get your secret Santa deliveries taken care of before the weather gets bad. Your dinner sounds delicious and I’m sure it will be. Enjoy the evening with your son and DIL and Ellie and Hank too. I take it Ellie and Hank may get a little special treat tonight?

      Have a wonderful Christmas Eve!

      • Somebody says:

Ack, whoops I posted my daughter’s name by accident 🤪 I also left out a word in the quote, turning it into garbage she said.

I’m claiming anesthesia and drug cocktail hangover 😉

      • elliesmom says:

Yes, the roast has two large bones in it. Ellie lets me take hers way before it can do harm. My son will be here so he can take Hank’s away from him. 🙂 My niece tells me bones aren’t good for dogs. My vet says they are as long as the dog isn’t allowed to chew them to the point where the bones splinter. When my son goes home, the dogs can have a chunk of the real meat. He never let Hank have any people food, but now Hank lives with Grandma. His favorite people food so far is blueberries. He’ll do tricks he didn’t know he knew to get a blueberry.

    • John Denney says:

My whole extended family loves brussels sprouts quartered lengthwise, tossed with olive oil, salt, pepper, & mustard powder, then roasted at 400 or so until the outer leaves start browning.

  9. Underwhelmed says:

Merry Christmas from Down Under. And also:

Time to break out the pitchforks, tar and feathers … and dial up the lawyers.

  10. taw46 says:

    This was sad.

  11. Gram Kraken says:

In anticipation of Congress having enough votes to override a potential Trump veto of the Rona relief bill I am going out now and spend some of my $600 on some cheap hamburger to go with the Helper. Grateful to be able to beef up our Ximas.

Even better yet, to honor Congress I am actually bringing home the Pork roast for our quarantined in-home simulated Boar’s Head Festival.

The Festivus Pole is up and The Airing of the Grievances began early on Dec 4.

Think I’ve got a terminal case of Cabin Fever after being cooped up with the Aspies for the last nine months.

    Merry Ximas Everyone

Kurt has been on fire the past couple of days on Twitter. Glad he’s on our side 😀

    • 1539days says:

If only Joe knew someone with a doctorate in education who could figure such things out.

      • elliesmom says:

The money the tech giants spent influencing the election could have bought a lot of wireless routers for kids who don’t have access, and whoever gets the contract for internet service at a school could be responsible for providing basic internet service for any child that doesn’t have it. Like communities negotiate for a local community TV station with any company who gets the cable contract. It doesn’t require a Nobel Laureate to figure this out although for 8 years the Democrats had one in the White House who was more worried about streaming basketball games to his White House TV than he was helping kids.

        • Dr. Myiq2xu says:

There are so many things we could do with existing technology to overhaul the way we educate everyone K thru post-grad. For instance, why don’t the best professors on any given topic record their lectures so that all the kids benefit? This works for in-person learning too – would you rather watch a recorded lecture from the guy who literally wrote the book on that topic, or attend a lecture on the topic by a grad student or an adjunct professor?

How about an app that would allow parents to monitor their child(ren)’s classroom?

The biggest obstacle to education reform is the fact that neither the school administrations nor the faculties see any need for them to reform. Parent-teacher conferences used to be about telling you how your juvenile delinquent is doing this year. Now they’re all about boosting customer satisfaction by showing
end-users all the wonderful things they are doing to prepare your budding artistic genius to participate in the diverse global economy.

          • elliesmom says:

Lots of really good lectures are already out there and available. There’s no way the average high school teacher can compete with Feynman’s lectures on physics, for example. When any professor records his lectures and makes them available for students to watch from home, they get back 3-6 hours of time every week they could use to teach. I had this conversation with Ann Althouse one day, and her response was, “If the students aren’t coming to class to hear me lecture, then what would I do with the time?” Maybe interact with her students instead of expecting them to be passive vessels?

          • Somebody says:

EM is correct, there are a lot of great lectures, lessons, documentaries, podcasts, etc., out there already. There is a private company that has a charter schools that use that concept. Each student progresses at their own rate, the teachers act as mentors in a way, but also lead hands on activities, grade and direct the classroom.

There is so much out there though, a lot of it free no less.

  16. Mothy67 says:

I gets me bunny every night. I think she is a she. I don’t know. She could be a he. I break out celery and berries. Bunny climbs up on the table and we do the dine. I love my rabbit. She sits on me and eats. The world can fuck off as i hold my bunny. I think there is something wrong with me. I love my bunny bunny but I really wanna say screw off to the entire world. Yet I love my bunny???

    • elliesmom says:

It’s pretty easy to tell if an adult rabbit is male or female. Just say, “Pardon me” and lift up its tail. If you can’t tell immediately that it’s male, then you have a female. ❤

      • Mothy67 says:

Really? I have had Ori for ten years. I love my little thang. She was named Oreo cause she/he looks like the cookie. Never give a kid a rodent. Shay liked her for a week. Got bored. Ori became mine. I adore my bunny. Bell is super good with her. I give my very very bad girl the tops of celery and say feed the morsel. My bad girl runs food to my bunny. Even Gracie treats her well. It is knock my socks off cute. I try to be good to da bunny. It is hard. I wish she could run. Stupid cage. I move her to the sliding glass doors and she loves the sun. I gotted me two very abused dogs. I will stop the world and melt. Bell was tied to a tree. The cops gave owners a choice. Surrender or go to jail. My bitch can’t behave. Barks, barks, barks. I treasure me bad girl. I love my Bell. She is awful. Oh I do detest her as much as I love her. She grinds my very last nerve. Everynight she needs to guide the arthritic hips into Shay’s room. She just looks at baby girl and then departs. What can be more amazing than a dog looking in on a kid?????? That is juice. When a thunder clap occurs she has to be in my bed. Has to be with me. Why? I really gots nada. I suck. Me dogs and the kin. I get family noise. Lex was in danger of failing out of Pitt nursing i said shut the freud up i likely said shut the fuck up. I said sit your ass down I will fix this. I fixed it in ten minutes. I be asshole, but I can turn the world upside down.
I wish I could be elliesmom. I can’t ever have that dignity. I wish. I say eat my shorts. You betcha I ache to deliver nice words. I am not equiped with nice words. I suck. I will always blow chunks. Way of the world.

    Enjoyed this Netflix film yesterday.

  18. Somebody says:

OMG, my gripe for the day. My oldest daughter sent me flowers, which was sweet🥰 I sent her a picture of them and thanked her. She had called last night upset they weren’t delivered, so I wanted to let her know.

She called me right away to ask how I liked them. We weren’t on the phone 5 minutes and she says I gotta go, I’ve got work to do. I was befuddled, aren’t you on leave? You haven’t taken any vacation time you’ll lose your leave. She informs me she has until the end of January to burn her leave and she chose to work over Christmas and New Year because everybody is off and she can get more done without interruption.

So she’s home alone for the holidays working🥺 She won’t take leave in January, she’s lying I know her. She’s ordering Chinese take out for Christmas dinner. She has friends that have invited her over, but instead she’s working and eating Chinese take out😟

I didn’t have a chance to really say anything about it because she was off the phone lickety split. I’m a mom, I worry.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

Well I am doing work today. Dumb legislators changed rules without actually understanding things like business days verses calendar days and set time limits that make no sense. At all. So would rather get things in order on this dreary rainy foggy day and be able to go visit with friends on the weekend since materials have to be ready to email next week as the meetings are Right after New Years.

      • Mt.Laurel says:

Kitty help sent it as I was still typing.

At any rate,I guess I understand your daughters point of view in some ways. But I am cooking and using the good China tonight. does she have flex to take say a few hours here and there? Or will she just loose the Time altogether? Hope it is at least the former. I find little breaks help me reset. Even if it is just taking a drive on a nice day .

        • Somebody says:

She can flex, and that’s what she says she’s going to do. She said she intended to work a bunch of half days. She’s launching several projects in the new year. She’s sending out assignments, scheduling meetings, setting deadlines, getting stuff in order, etc.

She’s the manager, she said she’d rather do all this with no interruptions. She’ll take a day or two off next week when she’s finished. Start off the first week of the year with a bunch of meetings, make sure everybody understands their assignments then just check in on people and work a bunch of half days in January. By February things should start rolling in and she’ll be back to working full time.

Five bucks says she doesn’t actually work more than one or two half days🙄 Love her, but she’s a workaholic. The pandemic has made it worse, at least when she was in the office the late night cleaning crew was a hint maybe she should go home🙄 At least now she’s well compensated, it hadn’t been that way for years. It had always been carrot dangling, pats on the head and taking credit for her work. All new masters in the C-suite now, lots of housecleaning. New masters recognize and reward hard work, seem to have a better idea of what is going on or maybe they don’t have pets yet? They’ve been exceedingly generous to her via salary and multiple large bonuses, so there’s that.

Merry Christmas. I love living in my small town in Maine (pop. 1,100) . This year the Catholic Church next door is hosting midnight mass. I am treated to the picturesque white clapboard , many paned arched windows alight glowing across the field. I was compelled to slip on boots, throw a coat on over my Santa pajamas and investigate. I was surprised to find thirty vehicles, mostly pickups. I am strangely comforted knowing religious people still exist..
