Thank you all for your good wishes last night. I fell asleep on the sofa around 8. My sofa is almost as comfortable as being in bed so when I woke up in the middle of the night, I just stayed there. I feel a little better this morning. I limited the wine to just the one glass so I’m guessing the mild headache is sinuses, and I know what to do for that. Although I miss having a bath tub, the shower that creates a steam room is pretty nice, too.

Has Biden cancelled his inaugural parade? Is it like Hillary cancelling her fireworks? An admission he’s not confident he’s going to inaugurated?

    • Dora says:

I think you did the right thing by staying on the couch. If you had gotten up and moved to another room, you might have had trouble getting back to sleep. And sleep is important when you are not feeling well.

I’m glad to hear that you are better this morning. Stay well.

      ….

I heard that Biden has canceled the parade. . Not sure if it’s true. We will see.

      • elliesmom says:

I figured out what’s wrong with me. I have a revised weather report. Snow due this afternoon. It explains the achey thumbs, the sinus headache without a stuffy nose, and the general feeling of impending doom. It’s a “hovering” storm. Not that the storm isn’t moving, but that the temperatures hover around the freezing mark so whether it’s snow or rain changes on a dime. The forecast changing from 34 to 30 changes the weather report from rain to snow. It’s not a blizzard that’s being predicted, and what falls will probably be history by tomorrow afternoon, but I have seasonal affective disorder, and a string of gray cloudy days in the winter is something I need to be aware of. I have special light bulbs in places I usually hang out, but the last few days I haven’t spent much time in those rooms. It’s one of the reasons why walking the dogs usually helps, and why moving to a sunnier place would probably improve my “happiness quotient” in the winter months.

My mom always said I was more like her in the summer, and more like my dad in the winter. The reality is my dad had the same thing. He called January and February our “contemplative months”. We both had difficulty adjusting to the switch on and off to daylight savings time. The rationale behind the time switch is to get more hours of daylight at the end of the day, but if you’re an early riser, and both us were, when DST starts you lose hours of daylight. We went from rising in the morning with sunlight streaming in the window to rising and getting ready for the day in the dark. My doctor and I have talked about medication, but it’s not something I need treatment for all year. She sees me for my physical in the summer, and I’m Miss Perky then. 🙂 But the light bulbs do work. I just need to add a few more or move the ones I have around.

        • 1539days says:

Those of us who work in industries where the day starts at 7 (now 6 because of COVID, grrr) have been hit by the expanded DST. I used to get another few weeks of light driving to or from work in the winter until they made it 7 months out of the year. Luckily, I work at a job where I can come in later and they’ve accepted (or given up trying to stop) either shifting my schedule or using PTO to fill in those dark hours I don’t want to drive in.

Even worse, my most productive time is probably second shift, but I’ve only worked that shift for a few weeks of my life.

        • lateblum says:

I’m glad you’re feeling better, em. The change in temps, daylight hours and barometric pressure make a difference to me, too. Those special light bulbs are so helpful.

I don’t care for cool mist humidifiers. Years ago we used them during the winter. They didn’t seem to make a difference health-wise. In fact, one of my little ones used to have even more allergies when we were using those humidifiers. It turns out the filter and sponges pads were full of mold and they’d need changing/cleaning.

Now I’m in a wonderful 100+ yrs old building with the best radiators. So there are a couple of rooms where I can set pans of water atop the heaters to moisten the air. While it isn’t enough, it is better.
          Stay well. 💕

          • 1539days says:

At one point, we’d boil water on the gas stove in the kitchen, which cost less than electric heating.

          • lateblum says:

I used to do that when dd#2 was little and had nighttime breathing problems. That, or I’d run hot water in the bathroom sink and tent a beach towel over us while she (and I) would breathe in the warm, moist air. I sometimes do that even now.

Right now I just figured out I probably need a cool mist humidifier

      • elliesmom says:

At the old house we originally had old steam radiators. They kept the air in the house nice and moist. When I reluctantly let ED switch the house to forced hot air so he could get his central air conditioning, I worried what all that dry air would do to me. The plumbers doing the heating system installed a unit at the blower on the furnace that added moisture to the air anytime the heat was on. It was wonderful. I have forced hot air here, too, but without the added unit. I can tell how much difference the added unit made. It required no maintenance on my part, and it added the moisture everywhere in the house. I don’t know how much it added to the cost of the new heating system, but if I was redoing the furnace here, I’d add it again in a heartbeat.

  6. Dora says:

Guess it’s true. It’s because of covid, of course.

    .

    • DeniseVB says:

I’m not buying the Covid excuse, Dems have overplayed that card for 10 months now and all it’s done is inflict punishment and gross inconvenience on the healthy.

      • taw46 says:

I’m with you. They “covid, covid, covid” 24/7. Then why did they put them up in the first place? Hmm.

      • 1539days says:

Also, giving an excuse for the media to ignore any protests about the Election on that day because there are “no outdoor activities scheduled.”

      • lyn5 says:

Covid is the new name for cheating.

      • Constance says:

Dems never cared about Covid crowds for their “Mostly peaceful demonstrations”. They are either afraid to openly celebrate if they pull this Biden thing out because they know Patriots will kick their teeth in, or they are trying to deny Trump a celebration. Good luck with that, President Trump will just wait until it warms up a little in the spring and have a “We Won” Patriot celebration and inauguration tour.

      • Dr. Myiq2xu says:

They might be worried that no one will show up. No one but the MAGA militia that is.

    • Constance says:

More like they think Trump will win now and they don’t want him to have a celebration.

      • lyn5 says:

We never got to celebrate Trump’s first win because of the violent Democrat assholes.

        • lateblum says:

And it never ended. The violent and “mostly peaceful” opposition just didn’t quit and poisoned anyone who wasn’t paying attention. The MSM might not have paid to do what they did, but those supposed journalists knew they were covering stories made up of whole cloth and did their darnedest to undermine and sabotage everything emanating from the Trump WH. Unforgivable.

      • lyn5 says:

    • Constance says:

They way you lessen the control of a blackmailer is release the information that is held by the blackmailer. And I do believe Justice Roberts is being blackmailed. President Trump can’t release the blackmail info on Justice Roberts and I guess Breyer too without looking gossipy and petty. But, someone with some credibility has to do it. That is what Lin Wood has done. Now we hope that Roberts and Breyer are embarrassed and want a chance to rehab their image so they make the right choices. And if they don’t it is now clear that a number of sides could release the proof.

I am debating a hot tub. Had the bathroom redone a few years ago. There is a tub, but it’s not a soaker. i miss taking a long bath. I also looked at those pools that you swim in place. My goofy town requires all the same permits for that as an in ground pool. Not worth it. I have a basement apartment with sliding glass doors (it was a garage before eminent domain took it away) i can have it almost outside. A good book, a box of wine. Maybe a classic film. I have also thought about buying a big tub and just putting it in the middle of the finished basement. Don some shorts and soak away. I have 3.5 bathrooms but it would require a complete reno to get a decent size tub in any of them. Separate shower and bath was a waste. Both are too small.
Also did anyone else’s water bill go through the roof? Mine used to be almost negligible! Somehow it went from 35 a month to 235. It includes sewage. We almost never use the shower. We, before Covid, all went to the gym which is at the top of the hill. Even Shay used the gym. Shay started her day with swim. She always showered at school.I have a dishwasher. We don’t drink tap. It tastes awful. I buy bottled. The water police tell me I am using hundreds of gallons. It is not real. I flush. How can my water bill go up 200 in 4 years There are two people less in my house. This is not Southern California. A bunch of rivers run by my house. The three rivers are just the obvious. Tons of tributaries. It rains non stop. I once a week put my recyclables on it’s side to drain off rain water. It never rains in southern Pennsylvania. Man it pours. Man it pours. I tried to see how, why my utility went up 100% maybe now 150%. No one will give me an answer. I am wait for it raycist. I would rather not pay a trillion dollars for gallons I do not use. I simply asked a question. We were not in our home during June. I was in Indiana my mom and Shay were in Florida. 200 plus water bill!!!!! I said what. They/she called me a liar. I have reciepts. I said bugger off. I know me I said bugger off. She says I said fuck off. And i threatened her in a sexual manner. Huh? I am prepped for any fight any time I will fight. No way I would hide behind 4 letters. She can blow me. I is got me mom and me Shayla Rayne. I dare anyone to cross me. I am a very tired child.
I would ask a God to let me sleep. I want rest. My friends are attacking me for defending their kids

    • elliesmom says:

You don’t empty and refill a hot tub very often. It gets treated with chemicals, usually bromine, on a regular basis. I emptied and refilled ours every 4 months or so, and we used it all year round. Your electric bill is more likely to take the hit, especially if your tub is outside. Investing in a good insulated cover is about all you can do to mitigate that. If you don’t use it regularly, you can turn down the heat, but it takes a lot of time and electricity to heat up all of the water so unless you’re not going to use for a couple of weeks, it’s cheaper to keep it close to the temperature you want it to be. They run on a 220v outlet like an electric stove or dryer so you need to have a line run to wherever the tub will be. Our house had a gas stove and a gas dryer so we had to start by having the 220 line brought into the house. A hot tub takes a fair amount of maintenance. I was the one who used it most so it was fair that I did most of the upkeep. You need to keep the water tested, the chemical levels in line, any algae treated or removed, etc. It was my Saturday morning chore. I miss the hot tub a lot, but it’s not a great idea for a single person who lives out in the woods to have one. I could boil in the tub for days before anyone found me.

      • 1539days says:

Hot tubs and boats. Those are the top items I hear about people buying, then selling after a couple of years. It’s a lot easier to know someone with a boat. Knowing someone with a hot tub and coming over regularly, however, is just creepy. 😛

        • elliesmom says:

I used to get lots of hints about folks wanting to visit to take a dip in our hot tub. I used to have guests the night before I emptied it.

          • Somebody says:

Our hot tub apparently was a party magnet unbeknownst to us. We heard a big ruckus one night, scared the living daylights out of us. It was the man next door busting his teenage daughter and her three teenage male friends drunk and naked in our hot tub🤯

The next day the people on the other side of us asked what had happened. Just then the single guy across the street walked over, as we began to explain what had happened the guy across the street says “So that’s who left the liquor bottles”. We were like what? He says well you were on vacation I took my date over there and there were empty liquor bottles everywhere, but don’t worry I cleaned them up.

We were like Chuck you brought your date into our yard in our hot tub? He says, well it’s not like you were using it😡 Then he says it wasn’t just me, James and Cynthia down the street were getting it on in it the first night I tried to take my date over there, we just waited a few hours it was romantic we watched the sunrise. WTF?

So I go down the street and ask the couple why they were in my yard getting it on in my hot tub. They look at me with a straight face and proclaim it was their anniversary as if that makes it OK.

But WAIT, that’s not all. We mention this to our best friends and the husband is utterly disgusted but not for our sake for their sake. You see they had romantic, candle lit evenings in our hot tub while we were on vacation too, they were there anyway taking checking on our cats.

But WAIT, there’s more, hubby is bitching at work about all the action our hot tub saw while we were out of town. We were gone for almost 5 weeks between vacation and his two and a half week class in OKC. Several of his co-workers pipe up that they too had indulged in our hot tub😲 Hubby never told me how many or who had been in it. Needless to say we drained it, sanitized it and just never really enjoyed it as much after that.

          • 1539days says:

You should have bleached it, too and not told anyone, Somebody.

    • Somebody says:

EM is right hot tubs take quite a bit of maintenance. We had one at our house in JAX. I built the two tiered deck, me, I did it. Anger is a great motivator😉 Hubby and his buddies were supposed to build it, but hubby had to go “suffer” at a 5 star resort for team building. Lumber company literally pulled up and dumped everything in my driveway, I couldn’t get my car out of the garage. I started out just lugging everything around back and then decided I am woman hear me roar. I designed and built what I wanted and it was lovely and WAY over engineered. I purchased and installed 250mph hurricane clips at every joint, we used to joke it was our storm shelter🤣 I even installed a hatch door to access the guts of the hot tub underneath. Some aspects I physically couldn’t do, so I paid construction workers building nearby houses cash money to help me.

Two things, you should check your meter. Make sure there is no water running, in fact at first cut off the main to the house. If the meter is still running there is a leak in the main line. Then turn on main to house but make sure no faucet, toilet, anything is running check meter again, if it’s spinning you have a leaky pipe somewhere. Second piece of advice regarding hot tub, insulated covers are great but if you by chance have carpenter ants in PA be forewarned they will eat the insulated cover happened to use and they are a PIA to get rid of.

Lastly if you have natural gas you can get a hot tub that is heated via natural gas. It will heat up quickly, so you don’t need to run it all the time. I’m guessing in the winter you’d have to keep it heated to a certain level, but to bring up to full heat should only take 30-45 minutes in the coldest of situations.

My ex-BIL built a really cool set up off the back of his house right off the master bedroom. He had a large covered patio across the entire back of his house. He closed in the end off his bedroom, there were sliding doors opening onto the patio from his bedroom. He built a deck up on the patio. So when you opened the doors instead of a small step down the decking was even, then you walked a step or two and it went up several steps but the steps were as wide as the room he enclosed. The effect was sort of Japanese. It enabled his massive hot tub to be “sunken” there was decking all around it. On the first step level to the left and right were doors leading out. There were windows around the rest of it that could be opened in the summer months. Because it was enclosed with a roof and windows he didn’t have to tinker with it much because rain water messes up your PH, but he didn’t have that issue. He also had an automatic system that constantly fed the bromine in and as I said a gas heater.

This hot tub was huge, my kids aged 3 and 5 used it like a heated swimming pool. He had no need to keep it heated here in Florida, generally the water rarely got below 72, although it got into the low 60’s once when we had a cold snap. The longest it ever took to heat was about an hour that one time it was really cold. He worked with hubby and married hubby’s sister who lived about 150 miles away, so he went over there on weekends. He had a swimming pool too, he gave me a key so the the kids and I and hubby if he was off could go swim on the weekends whenever we wanted. He finally ended up selling his house a year and a half later. He had a parrot, we took care of when he was away……feed the bird and spend the day by the pool, I was cool with that😉

If as you say the area you are contemplating is partially outdoors meaning it has a roof you might consider a set up like that. It was really nice

      • elliesmom says:

Here in the northeast we have to worry about a hot tub freezing over in the winter. Our tub was recessed into our deck, and there were many times I ran across the deck barefoot in the snow because it was too cold to stop and put my shoes on. In spite of that, being in the hot tub while it was snowing was my favorite time to use it.

    • lateblum says:

Wow! That’s a leap to go from $35 to $235. I’d check the meter just as Somebody suggested. I’d also check to see if someone in the neighborhood might be tapping into your water line. That happened to my son.
This past summer, he and dil bought and moved into a new house. Right next to their house, there is a HGTV-like rehab project. Those people stopped by a month or so after the move-in and advised my son that they were using his water (per an agreement with the former owner).I don’t know whether he agreed to that arrangement. I do know, they never paid my son anything beyond a couple of Starbucks cards for the water.
(I try not to get into their financial or any other aspects of family life, unless asked or unless it is egregious.)
Here in Chicago, the water department has been under investigation for severely overcharging home owners for water. Even home owners who – at the time of the investigation had NO water service, but were still being charged hundreds of $$ every month.
Good luck with this – and your hot tub decision.

      • lateblum says:

*NO water service = NEVER had water service because no one was actually residing there.

My town is chalk full of the crazy. My sidewalk ended at my front stairs. I was getting tickets all the time for not shoveling the snow. There was no sidewalk to shovel. I had to take pictures and fight in court. Two years ago they said everyone had to get new sidewalks. I am dumb as a post, but even my itty bitty half brain knew there was no way they were putting a slew of sidewalks on the street behind me. It is a very large hill. They would have to redo the entire septic system. I am dull as spit but Icould see there was no way it was happening. I had to pay 1600. The cupid stunts almost refused my1600. They wanted me to finance. It would have cost over 6000. They wanted me to finance over ten years. Ten years. A flipping decade for the length of two cars. I said no, no, no in my best Amy Winehouse. I paid in person. It was kind of funny. Years ago I worked at Magnolia Cafe in Center City Philly. There was a guy, the owners brother, who had gone to rehab. He hated people swearing. I substituted M Fer with Margaret Thatcher. I still yell Margeret Thatcher. I love my Shay pup she asked me why I some times yell out thenames of British Prime Ministers. It started as a stupid joke all those years ago. I still yell Tony Blair.

    • Constance says:

My electric bill and water bill doubled in one month a few months after my ex moved out due to my court order. I couldn’t figure out what was going on. My son came home to live for awhile and said “Mom a guy walked out of the back yard and I’ve seen him on the block a few times, who is he?” Next time son saw him he followed him. Turns out the guy was living in my garden shed and had cut into the light wiring to add a electric heater and channeled the hose around the side of the house so he had water. I said “Oh my God! a bum in my garden shed!! I’m calling the cops!!!” Son said “Don’t call the cops! I’ll get rid of him”, and the guy was gone in half an hour. I tore down the garden shed. Now I have to park my lawn mower in the garage. So I would advise looking around for a bum somewhere on your property.

      • Somebody says:

Constance, I would have freaked out too. Glad your son got rid of him.

      • lateblum says:

Wow. That is freaky! It’s a good thing your son was there and helped you out. I’d have been more than a little nervous if that were happening in my yard.

I know! Absolutely crazy. But of course, I say this as a white woman.
When I heard about this I had time to give it some thought. And I wondered what I’d think if I were in a courtroom that was decorated with painting upon painting of images of
Black judges and decided that I might not like it. . . if I had time to pay attention to the decor of the courtroom. None of the traffic courtrooms I’ve ever been in had any paintings or obvious thought to decor whatsoever. I also don’t recall seeing artwork of any type in tv courtrooms. But I could be wrong.
(Thank the gods they didn’t have paintings of lynchings on the walls.) I can’t believe I just said that. Feel free to edit this comment.

And it isn’t even the full tape. They spliced together the parts that they wanted the public to hear. Has Trump released the full tape yet?

Memo runs through relevant constitutional & statutory provisions & includes a summary of Team Trump’s myriad failed legal challenges in (supposedly) contested states. Her conclusion: “There is no appropriate basis to object to the electors from any of the six states at issue.”

      Levin’s beginning …

      1. I have not “obtained” a copy of Liz Cheney’s statement, nor did I tape a conversation with the president and leak it to the W Post as someone in the GA sec of state’s office did,
      2. but my view has nothing to do with what Trump-hating Cheney is proclaiming or the terrible GA sec of state is now doing. It has nothing to do with what Ken Buck and his little group are saying, or this Republican or that Republican is warning in defense of inaction.
      3. For me, it is pretty basic. The electoral process was undermined in several key states by the Democrats — specifically, Art. 2, Sec. 1, Cl. 2. After their 2016 defeat, the Democrats, their lawyers, and their surrogates succeeded in changing election laws without the backing
      4. of certain key state legislatures and, in several cases, against their will. The Republican state legislatures in several battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Georgia, found their exclusive authority undermined by Democrat executive officials,
      5. courts, and even some Republicans in executive authority. The Republicans declaring they are righteously standing for the Constitution or the states or democracy or what have you by refusing to stand up on Jan. 6

        6. and at least speak out against what has happened, and insist it must never happen again, are contributing to the unraveling the the constitutional electoral college process, which they claim to defend.
        7. And Republican voters should take notes and remember, in the next election cycle, who should be replaced. This is one of those times in our lives and in nation’s history when the failure of public officials to act truly matters.

President @realDonaldTrump and I filed an election contest on December 4 showing evidence of unlawful votes cast and counted in the election for President that are substantially greater in number than the margin. We have never a hearing, let alone a ruling, on our contest.

My kids gave me one of those a couple of years ago. I told them to take it back and come back with a present for their mother, cause I don’t know who they thought they were giving one of those things to…they all know I don’t trust those things.

One hundred billion years ago I started putting water in the freezer. I always move them to fridge. I love ice cold water. My allergies are less if I drink very cold water. I asked Shay if she stole my water. She said no then said okay maybe I steal your water. I love her. She purloins my water and we talk about her thievery. I have a swell kiddo.
