I suspect that the $15 minimum and other fun economy destroyers are among the real reasons a few smaller chains such as pet valu closed up shop in the USA before the end of the year with little warning. The decisions were made just a couple days, if not hours, after the election. They used covid as the excuse but the stores themselves were shocked as they had dips, like most, early in the spring but had recouped by summer.

I only watched tv this morning to see the Trumps leave DC. Haven’t had it on since, but I have been on Twitter a lot today. Still haven’t decided if I will leave Twitter. There are people on there I like to follow, who aren’t on Gab or Parler. But Twitter site is boring now with Trump and so many of his supporters gone. I also noticed that the left gets to “tell the story” with no one to point out their lies, to challenge them, and to ridicule them. And the hatred of Trump and his family has increased a thousandfold. All day long, such hatred, such vicious tweets. These people are pathetic, they are the ones who need to be deprogrammed. How are they ever going to get through the day without him?

A female reporter on Real America’s News (or maybe it was Newsmax) is a long time friend of Trump’s. She showed up at Mar A Lago just after lunch.
She said the family had a nice lunch and Melania was in a sundress and Trump in casual attire and they were relaxed and having fun with kids and grandkids. God bless that family and what they’ve been put through.

    • jadzia1971 says:

Aaand never mind. French media is reporting that we are going back to 24-hour house arrest. My emotional state is deteriorating and I can’t be the only one.

      • elliesmom says:

I talked my BFF of over 50 years into coming for lunch this week. She’s stuck in lockdown with a husband who is paranoid over the cootie flu. We discussed whether her situation or my being all alone is the preferred one. We decided being locked down together might be the best option. While we were laughing about it, there’s no question this has gone on too long.

        • Somebody says:

It will all start to come to an end soon. We have to go through more lockdowns, harder lockdowns first. Joe has a 100 day plan, so we have to endure that so he can appear to “cure covid”, all hail, down on our knees🙄

The WHO announced yesterday about reducing the number of cycles. The plan is to come to agreement and implement the new threshold in March. Shazam, right after Joe’s 100 day plan wraps up, just a coinky dink no doubt.

Further, I heard somewhere I think from the press secretary that will be scaling back testing and phasing it out. They are looking at an end date of June or July. Just as Biden ended testing for H1N1.

The reasoning is multi-faceted, 100 day plan coupled with new threshold and massive vaccine distribution including additional vaccines being looked at. Pro-tip there area couple of actual covid vaccines close to approval and studies are wrapping up on BCG vaccine. In combination plenty to vaccinate everyone.

BAM, Joe cured covid. Come March it will just be a thing, not a crisis and by summer gone. We just have to play along a little while longer while the overlords wrap up their loose ends.

          • Mt.Laurel says:

As I said above, there will be a new reason to ensure the peons behave one thy changes all the definitions and parameters on covid to suit the Joey cured everyone meme. China had some ties that could make all those warmongers happy that lost their business because peace is horrid for overloads personal bank accounts and money laundering schemes.

          • jadzia1971 says:

At this point I WISH we had a Joe Biden situation that would motivate the powers that be to end the endless lockdowns. There’s no election here for another 2 years. The press leaks (which clearly come from the government) are now saying no restaurants until April and no nothing else until JUNE.

          • jadzia1971 says:

And I am so wound up with anxiety over this bullshit (although at this point I am not complying with any more permission slip bullshit and am ready, willing, and able to be fined or arrested and maybe become a test case) that I’m spending money like it’s my job. Yesterday i went to the store for an onion and came out with a 100-euro curling iron. After spending $500 overnight for period and first-period supplies. And ordering shoes. I’m going to come out of this fat, weepy, and BROKE if I don’t get my shit together.

          • jadzia1971 says:

I am also done wearing a mask outside in my neighborhood that is so rural that we don’t even really have sidewalks. Come get me, fachos.

(And I’m not alone in this. Last weekend the H-man, who is the only boyfriend I’ve ever had who actually notices when I’m doing poorly, dragged me out for a LONG walk on the riverside bicycle path, which has just been extended and we want to see what it was like. It was an unusual non-monsoonish winter day and there were lots of people out taking a stroll, jogging, walking their dogs, and bike riding, although again this is a rural area and it was not at all a “big crowd” type of situation. Maybe 10 percent of them were wearing masks. All the rest of us were grandma-killing outlaws and it will be our fault when we all go on house arrest again.)

          • jadzia1971 says:

My last whinge. Yesterday all gym classes in schools were canceled. So no out of school activities, no physical education at school, no seeing friends, and locked in at 6pm. That’s not going to have a long-term effect on kids and adolescents, I’m sure.

My youngest son, who started at a new high school this year, told me that he doesn’t know what his classmates look like because he has never seen their faces. I cried.

          • lateblum says:

I’m so sad to hear your son’s statement. It’s not much better here, either.
Calamity has no idea what some of her first grade classmates look like from the neck down since they’ve been locked in a Zoom classroom since September. They’ve been out of their brick and mortar school building since March. These kids deserve so much more than this.

In Evanston, there is a daily item in the online newspaper that features the “Mask of the day” person. I kid you not. People willingly send in photos of themselves proudly modeling how they look while wearing these pieces of cloth across their faces! I’m surprised they aren’t wearing wooly coats and bells around their necks.

          • jadzia1971 says:

Christ on a cracker, that is awful. I’m just sitting down to the computer to an email from the high school telling us that their career night is canceled. Our kids really do deserve better.

          • jadzia1971 says:

And here is what is making me crazy. At the same time that schools are being shut down by the government, that same government is making it illegal to homeschool, which at this point I would totally do, given that I’m educated and only work part-time (and at home) anyway. My kids’ Catholic high school has mostly gotten rid of Latin and Greek in favor of Chinese, the ones in elementary school are being fed climate hysteria in addition to covid hysteria, all four of them are the smartest kids in the class and end up treading water half the day, and I’m at the end of my rope.

          • lateblum says:

OMG— Chinese! You are living in a horror story. Your poor kids. What happens if you homeschool? How would anyone know? It feels like 1984.

I know what you mean about the younger kids being taught climate change bs. The last week or so, Calamity’s (1st grade) science class is focusing on COVID 19. On what they – as kids – can do to “make a difference in the world”. They’re f*cking 6 and 7 years old! I’m waiting for the teachers to tell the kids to turn in family members who speak negatively about the pandemic culture.

When I told my son about the “recent discovery” that there is a problem with the PCR testing, he became really angry – with me. This morning he texted me and didn’t apologize, but said he’d been reading about it and is now very angry with the fraudulent nature of the information we’ve been given. (It’s a start.)
I can’t believe what people around the world are being subjected to. This morning, I heard yet another news report, this one saying it could be mid to late summer before Covid is under control. I really have no words for all this other than please treat yourself and your kids to whatever good/love you can because you are all worth it. WE are all worth it. ❤️

          • jadzia1971 says:

The government is pushing to make homeschooling illegal. It’s not very popular here, but it was allowed. There are about 200 kids in my city who are homeschooled.

It sounds like your son MIGHT be starting to see the light. I am encouraged by the fact that I am starting to see calls for demonstrations against what is called the “health dictatorship” on the first day of reconfinement. I am clinging to a little bit of hope that the cognitive dissonance between the media’s panic porn and what people are actually seeing in real life might begin to turn the tide here. My city has about 100,000 people. On our version of Craigslist alone, there are 70 restaurants for sale here. A Michelin-starred restaurant here is in bankruptcy. I think people are starting to lose patience.

Last night I watched Tucker and went to bed. As I was lying in bed in the dark listening to the dogs snore. I asked myself why was I so depressed? There have certainly been other presidents I didn’t like, didn’t vote for, and were going to do things I knew would hurt the country, but I didn’t have the feeling of impending doom I was feeling last night. Then I realized it’s not Biden who has me feeling so blue. It’s Kamala Harris. I’ve waited over 50 years for the first woman to become POTUS, and here she is. Just one Biden slip up from being POTUS, and all I am is ashamed and embarrassed. Most of my women friends on Facebook are devout lefties, and only one of them has posted anything celebratory at having our first woman VP, and 12 hours later it has no likes and no comments. Are they embarrassed, too?

    • Dora says:

They have reason to be embarrassed. Even those on the left can see through her.

      • DeniseVB says:

Didn’t Kamala drop out before the first primary? Low single digits at that point, from Democrats ! Then VP nod? Reminds me of the same path Biden took in 2008. Dropped out before the first primary and before that, a no show at the August 2007 Yearly Kos when every Dem primary candidate showed up to schmooze the activist base. At that time, Edwards had much more enthusiasm than Obama, but Obama’s supporters seemed to be those fringe left groups he eventually mainstreamed to destroy our country. Edwards and the rest seemed to have the last of the Normals, and Hillary thought she had that race sewn up too. What a odd choice for VP that year, Biden?

        • Mt.Laurel says:

So we now have Biden and mini Biden. As smart a duo as Boo and Biden. None of them can string two sentences (well Joey has trouble with more than two words) together without Teleprompters, drugs, ghost writers that were fun loving terrorists and puppeteers.

    • Somebody says:

Anyone with any logic that has given even a cursory look at the “irregularities” in this election understands what happened. They may not admit it to others, but they know. My prog sister in CA hasn’t celebrated or mentioned Kamala. In fact she’s been silent until the infamous capitol “seige and insurrection”. She’s latched onto that like a dog with a bone, as have many on the left.

As more and more details emerge about exactly who was there and who did what, If the truth gets out much of it will be inconvenient and memory holed. So that thin reed will be taken away.

Once the smoke clears from the “seige”, those on both sides or no side will have to face facts and come to terms with things. Massive election fraud, the two parties working in lock step to seal the deal. The foreknowledge that leaders on the hill had of potential violence but ignored and then used to their advantage. The continued unrest in major cities. The boot on the neck censorship by big brother, I mean big tech, no matter your leanings surely caught your attention. Anyone reasonable has to think “there but for the grace of God go I”, or perhaps this seems un-American.

Add to that the horrific pandemic that shattered the best economy in decades or in a lifetime for many is being laid bare. The WHO’S announcement yesterday was too cute by half. People have been complaining about the excessive number of cycles from jump, hell Harvard was ignored. Our lives have been ruled over and in many cases ruined based on bullshit. Bullshit endorsed by bureaucrats with an agenda, some of which were almost worshipped by the media and some of the masses. A few days before the election HCQ was quietly approved for early covid, now the world’s oldest vaccine looks to be on the horizon as a player, yet that information was available in the early going and dismissed as heresy. Oh and as suspected the wuflu came from a lab in China.

Any one of those things is a shell shock, but together? Things people on both sides suspected are confirmed. Maybe they thought their team was the “good side”, now they know they are both corrupt and at least on some level in cahoots. They know the swamp or the deep state or whatever is real. Not only that it’s HUGE and global. If anyone is paying attention whatever illusions they had have been shattered.

The last 4 years, especially 2020, culminating in the last couple of weeks has been like the end of The Wizard of Oz. Love him or hate him Trump is Toto, he pulled the curtain back. A common refrain during the Trump years was “The Big Ugly”. The big ugly was coming when the snakes and crooks would be held accountable. Well folks the Big Ugly is here and boy is it ugly.

Well I said a lot to say this, it’s a hollow victory. That’s why women aren’t touting it beyond a few useful idiots. Anyone with a lick of common sense or reasoning capabilities knows how very hollow it all is, hence their silence.

I’m expecting a shoe to drop on Biden when the vaccines turn out to have some serious setbacks. He’ll, of course, blame it all on Trump’s fasttracking the vaccine, but it will put a monkey wrench into Biden’s economic recovery. The big thing is the pharma companies skipped the animal trials. When companies have tried to develop vaccines for the SARS1 virus (this virus is SARS2), the vaccines have appeared safe until they went into animal tests. Then they discovered deaths, permanent infertility, birth defects, and neurological issues in the ferrets. When exposed to “wild” SARS1 virus, the animals went into antibody overdrive. The vaccines never went to market.

We’ve already seen some cases of bell’s palsy. A healthy Miami doctor has died from a blood platelet disorder 10 days after receiving the vaccine. Pregnant women are not being discouraged from getting the vaccine. Israeli doctors are saying they’re only seeing a 50% efficacy rate instead of the 95% promised. My friend’s son has covid-19 now after getting the vaccine. He’s not very sick with it, but most people who get covid-19 who have not been vaccinated don’t get very sick, either. He’s a nurse, and they found out he was positive in a routine weekly test at the hospital where he works. The pharma companies are shielded from liability, and given how they’ve behaved, I’m sure they’ll say Trump pressured them into cutting corners. But I wouldn’t be sure Biden will get to claim victory over the cootie flu.

    • 1539days says:

My company had a virologist who is friends with the CEO on a Zoom meeting. Every question was answered with “take the vaccine” or the vaccine is safe. What if I had COVID already? “You should take the vaccine.” What if I have allergies? “Take the vaccine.” What about the side effects? “They’re better than getting COVID.” It was ridiculous.

The guy also says he won’t touch anything outside his home without gloves because COVID can transfer on surfaces. Also ridiculous because the disease hardly lasts on surfaces. Total propaganda and fear mongering from the “trust the science” community. And yes, he said that too.

      • Mt.Laurel says:

This is something that has been bothering me. They have brushed aside all the typical types of warnings and parameters that have been in place for flu shots for decades. Have a fever other symptoms, pregnant, chronic health conditions no problem. get the covid vaccine. want a better marriage, do better in school, climb Mt Everest…..just get the covid vaccine.

    • taw46 says:

According to this article, animal trials were not skipped by these two companies.

      https://apnews.com/article/fact-checking-9792931264

Also, I read several reports over the last year that said research into the SARS vaccine was stopped due to funding. Here is one of those articles, this one from March of last year.

      https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-care/scientists-were-close-coronavirus-vaccine-years-ago-then-money-dried-n1150091

There is so much reporting out there, going both ways. Like we have all said, each of us has to read it all and then make our individual decisions. Vaccine or no vaccine.

      • Mothy67 says:

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could get just the facts to be able to make an informed decision.
I check the numbers for my county daily. 50 to 75% of deaths are always in ltc’s. How many of the remaining fatalities are of comprimised people? Two days ago the headlines blared child under 10 dies from covid. Sadly children under 10 die everyday. Did he have other health issues? Was he given prompt treatment? Fear mongering. Should they feel the need to announce the death they should be obligated to reveal the circumstances. Parents are still scared.
The infection rate seems to not be increasing as much as it was a few weeks ago with the exception of New England. Most states are well under 1% daily. Still significant numbers, but not exponentially what it was shortly after Christmas. Indonesia also appears to be on a rise. Why now a year into it?
I will not get the vaccine based on the information thus far available.

        • Mothy67 says:

Also the county reports “probable cases”. what does that mean? Are cases reported twice? Let’s say I go to urgent care in the morning with my allergies. The first hour I am awake I have a scratchy throat, runny nose. Might UC list me as probable positive? When tests come back often a week later are cases deemed probable double counted? There is just so much hyperbole puked by media with often little if any facts.

      • elliesmom says:

Unless the animal subjects are fruit flies, there hasn’t been enough time for the pharma companies to have completed both animal and human trials even if they did them simultaneously. The clue they probably didn’t do a complete animal study is they have no idea about the risks to pregnant women. Pharma companies don’t lose funding if they’re ontrack to produce a highly lucrative successful product. They lose funding when their initial trials fail. So reporting the SARS1 vaccine research lost funding isn’t a lie. It’s just not the whole truth.

Yes, we need to each make our own decision. The most honest way is to realize if you take the vaccine, you’re signing into a pharmaceutical trial. If the dangers you face from the virus are greater than the unknown risks from taking the vaccine, then you should roll up your sleeve. If the risks you face from getting the virus are small, then maybe waiting until we see what the real risks from the vaccine are is a better path. I’ve been finding the Israelis are the most willing to put out all of the available information, pro or con. I’m not trying to influence anyone to refuse the vaccine. I just think it’s a case of not knowing what we don’t know.

ED worked for Donald Rumsfeld in the pharma industry. “There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.” ~ Donald Rumsfeld

Btw EM, you mentioned before that you learned that ibuprofen probably gave you high blood pressure. What do you use when you need pain relief – like from a headach etc? Acetaminophen?

          • elliesmom says:

The ibuprofen doesn’t give me high blood pressure. It works against the meds I take for high blood pressure and makes them less effective. I can take acetaminophen or regular old aspirin. That being said, ibuprofen is what works best for me, and if I only need to take one, it’s OK if I do that. But if it’s for a pain that’s expected to last for a few days, then it’s a no-no. I keep it in the house along with Tylenol and aspirin.

I know how you feel about your daughter and the vaccine. My kids are both past 40.

I did brief online search for vaccine complications about three weeks ago before Al got her first dose; other than rare anaphylaxis and occasional swelling of people with facial “fillers”, it was all rainbows and unicorns. 24 hours after Al got her first dose, she was sick with fatigue, low grade fever, headache, etc. The most worrisome symptom was rapid heart rate with minimal exertion. (This is a person who runs 30-50 mile per week and ran 10 minutes below Boston qualifying time 2 month before). She still has pain at injection site. Quite a few people at the hospital who have had the second dose are much more severely affected.

The next day I got an MGH vaccine update and moderate complications are very common.
They make the point that not talking about side effects may make people less likely to get second dose after they have problems with the first. IMO, I suspect that our betters who control information flow have blocked any mention of vaccine side effects.

      From Newsweak:

One of the Bibles that will be used is a Harris family heirloom that had been owned by Regina Shelton, an Oakland, California, woman who helped raise the future vice president and her sister Maya. Harris has referred to the woman she calls “Mrs. Shelton” as a second mother and has previously used Shelton’s Bible to take the oaths of office as California attorney general and as U.S. Senator.

The second Bible belongs to the late civil rights icon and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court justice, who served on the court from 1967 until his death in 1993.

Fauci’s already been crowing about how he can talk about whatever he wants without having to deal with Trump. Like, Fauci can tell people the Wuhan Flu won’t affect the US, or that masks are unnecessary and are taking them away from hospitals. You know, SCIENCE.

  50. helenk3 says:

Am I remembering this correctly? when the vaccine became available Trump gave the states the responsibility for distributing it to the people that lived in them.
so who screwed up the distribution? so far all I hear is that it is Trump’s fault. Should he have not trusted the states to do a good job and made it a federal thing?

    • Anthony says:

He was ready to have armed forces distribute the vaccine as I recall, but the communists shrieked that it smacked of an oppressive totalitarian regime.

    • Somebody says:

Florida and Texas are doing just fine, in fact most of the red states are. It’s the blue states that have screwed up their distribution.

Florida’s biggest issue is vaccine tourists, mostly snowbirds and relatives of snowbirds. In fact my vile prog CA sister unapologetically told me she and her hubby are making plans now to come to Florida, use my mom’s address and get vaccinated😡 Then she’ll turn around and criticize DeSantis and Republicans 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

      • Jentx says:

Israel has given most of its citizens the vaccination both doses today Israel has the most covid positive citizens in the entire world as per capita. Approximately 69% of people who’ve had the vaccine have tested positive for covid. The extremely faulty and ridiculous test the PCR test shows fake positive somewhere between 70 to 95% of the time. Major respectable Studies have shown the mask is that best slightly damaging to People’s Health certainly prevents nothing. If you want to fix what’s wrong you got to start right now right here. The vaccine is a joke what we’re doing is a joke and participating in it makes us all part of the problem. I’ve read thousands of articles medical articles in medical journals if you follow the lines it’s clear power control money. This stupid virus was created in Wuhan Bill Gates and fauchi and soros are behind it we know all this it was supposed to kill a lot of people it didn’t so they decided to use lockdown and suicide depression and untreated diseases that will kill you to get rid of a lot of the population they also decided to put sick people in the nursing homes since this is the easiest way to kill people who are at risk since it is an Airborne virus it affects the older who have multiple comorbidities. Interesting how is the government gets rid of people that need Social Security and deserve it they’ll have plenty of money to hand out for reparations and keep the Millennials in line. That being said it will never kill as many people as they wanted but they can figure out a way to kill IE everything I just described if you’re worried about getting this order some hcq online and make sure you have zinc bump up your ACD vitamins lose some weight get healthy and you’re going to be okay. And I can damn well promise you the people in power are not getting the shots the same way they’re not wearing the masks. Why would you risk partial paralysis stroke shock and death when you have at most 2.001% chance of dying from something it makes little sense. but since most things don’t make sense why start here I’ll tell you why because we need to get smarter and faster and better than them if we’re going to beat this thing and if we want to take our country back we need to start by getting rid of irrational fear that makes us do stupid things and get our heads clear and come together and plan how we’re going to succeed

I wonder what the consequences of transgenders playing in girl”s sports will be on the dysmorphic populace. They might become hated and even more shunned. It’s extremely disheartening. No matter how much my girl trains a boy biologically will have a physical advantage.

    • Constance says:

They just ruined girls sports and the idiot feminists just bob their heads yes. This will also end a lot of female sports scholarships. All they have to do is stop calling it girls and women’s sports and go with “no y chromosome sports”. But Dems love destructive regulations.

      • 1539days says:

There’s a phrase from The Federalist Papers about the “tyranny of factions.” There were men’s and women’s sports because physically, they’re at different levels. If you had a team where men and women would compete, all sports would be mostly men. That’s why HS football teams will have female kickers because they can handle that position. But have a “girls” team with males and they can end up injuring women on the team.

This is pretty much a case of women being the inferior protected group compared to transgender. A transgender women who was a man can’t be on the men’s team, (for some reason) but has to be on the women’s team, even though they’re literally taking substances that are banned in sporting. Welcome to Bizzaro world, where gender and biology are “constructs.”

        • elliesmom says:

From a political standpoint, I’m not sure why the Democrats insist on doing this. The percentage of people who have played women’s sports or are the parents of girls who do is a much larger percentage of the population than the transgendered. If you eliminate lesbians who play women’s sports from the LGTBQ coalition, and the gay men who really don’t care, I don’t think banning biological males from playing women’s sports is going to trigger a backlash from that coalition. The “woke women” who support biological males in women’s sports are like cats chasing a laser pointer. Just distract them with something else to chase.

          • 1539days says:

This is more about progressive ideology than politics. It’s also why Trump was able to get a large, non-Republican coalition. Some people still think it’s stupid. Transgenderism is the triumph of propaganda over reality. With 7 billion people, some of them are going to turn out with weird sex organs or chromosomes or DNA. These exceptions are used to diminish gender realities. This helps to break apart the importance of the family, sexuality, marriage and love. In the book 1984, characters talked about how sex and love made people care less about the state and their stupid rules.

The reason it’s being pushed so hard is that it 1.) separates the morons who will believe anything from the people who may be liberal but haven’t lost their marbles. It’s important to identify them for reeducation later. 2.) it seems to take hold with the young leftists, because it’s cool and alternative and their parents hate it.

Soooo, I FINALLY had my MRI today! OY! An hour and a half semi frog legged with a contraption over my hips and upper thighs. Head first into the tube arms stretched out behind me. I wasn’t allowed to move the entire time. My right hand started to fall asleep, I barely moved my fingers and got in trouble🙄 That image series had to be re-done🙄 My fingers were not even in the damn tube🙄

Monday surgeon visit, Tuesday PET scan and hopefully some kind of plan and path forward by week’s end.

I was a bit of a bitch today, had to go to main hospital instead of one close to me. There were about 5 women in the imaging dressing/waiting area. The nurse walks me back and tells me to strip, take off all my clothes and put on the gown with the opening in the front. I go in changing room and do as told. The gown is HUGE! I tied it as tight as I could, but it was still gaping open🤗

I come out, put my stuff in locker and hold onto the gown trying to keep it closed and have some measure of modesty. Only one other woman has on a gown, but it’s over her sweat pants. They all stare at me like I’m a freak. Finally redneck granny says “What the hell kind of pictures are YOU having taken?” I don’t know why, but it rubbed me the wrong way, they were all gawking at me. So I replied “Centerfold spread, I’m Miss January”🤣🤣🤣🤣 That chomped their jaws, at least for a minute. Redneck granny continued “I’m serious, what the hell is wrong with you that you gotta strip down naked?”. I replied, I have female cancer. Not a single one of them made eye contact with me after that. I should have stuck with my centerfold story😉

They had made him remove anything metal, but there was apparently some metal in the paint used to color the plastic buttons on the front of his knit pullover shirt. It was rumpled so the buttons weren’t all in a line. When he took the shirt off, the “tumors” disappeared.

They hired a woman to do attendance. Nazi bitch. The internet drops every once in awhile. Everyonebisvat home streaming or online. I have FIOS , but I have to unplug router and reset.
I wish there was a decent private school nearby.
I did send her the link to KA. So thank you.

        • Constance says:

I hope it works out. My daughter basically got nothing out of her math class but was able to test out of the subject thanks to Khan. That’s one thing about math, it’s pretty easy to test for placement and achievement level.

          • elliesmom says:

Yes, it is. “Pre-calculus” is required to become certified to teach science in MA. I had taken 6 semesters of calculus in engineering school, but my adviser in teacher school insisted I needed to take “pre-calculus” to get certified. Since you pay by the credit hour in grad school. I wasn’t paying for the course, but I was happy to test out of it, which they charged me $35 to do. If somene died and made me queen, I’d let kids who are going to school online take a version of the course’s final exam at the beginning of a course, and let them skip what they already know. That’s hard to do in a face-to-face class, but very easy in an asynchronous online one.

          • John Denney says:

” I’d let kids who are going to school online take a version of the course’s final exam at the beginning of a course, and let them skip what they already know. ”

I like how you think, EM!

I think that in a normal classroom, one could use the same approach, but it’s impractical to have the teacher address each kid individually, so instead have the kids that know the material lead small groups to teach the kids that don’t. It’s a win-win-win, since it offloads the teacher, slower students get near individualized tutoring, and the kids doing the teaching learn as well. I’ve always found that when I teach, I learn, either because I have to research a bit deeper to get a better understanding so I can explain something more clearly, or because someone asks a question I hadn’t considered.
