We have snow here too. Glad I switched the cat’s vet appointment to Tuesday 🙂

  3. Somebody says:

That’s just not right, those poor palm trees and King Neptune has to be thinking WTF. The big chill has reached my area too, our high today is 56, tomorrow it is 55. Our lows are 35 and 39🥶 No snow thankfully, but when a Floridian has to put on socks and closed toed shoes it’s damn near the apocalypse😉

With the exception of Sunday which is forecast to be rainy, my area doesn’t return to the 70’s for one entire week. Our forecast for the next week is upper 50’s to 60 for highs, mid 30’s to low 40’s for lows. I shall need to dig my ski jacket out of the back of the closet🤣

    • elliesmom says:

Today’s high at my house will be 31, and the overnight low will be 6. There was about 5 inches of snow on the ground yesterday before a little bit melted off. I shoveled the front porch yesterday, but I didn’t do the stairs. If I don’t get them done sometime today, I’ll be using the garage entrance to the house until Monday or Tuesday because after tonight, they won’t be snowy. They’ll be solid ice. They face south, and the temp of 31 and a little sun will make them slushy today. It’s not that awful to use the side door of the garage, but if I get a grocery delivery, I’m the one who has to carry them upstairs. It’s a trade off.

27 in NYC, real feel 17.

      • Somebody says:

OMG, if I lived in RI or NYC I would stay in bed and pull the covers up over my head and pray for the apocalypse to end🤣🤣.

Nah, if I lived in either place I’d own appropriate clothing😉 I remember my daughter’s first year in NC, straight out of grad school working for peanuts, which paid off she’s moved up and up and up. Anyway she was freezing come late September. I said, “Why don’t you wear one of your sweaters?”. She started crying and said “I don’t own any that don’t say Merry Christmas”.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I immediately ordered and had delivered a nice winter coat, a couple of wool jackets, heavy pants, thermal underwear, sweaters, wool blend socks and two pairs of boots. I put together a couple of weeks worth of a wardrobe with a few bonus pieces😉 To say she was thrilled and thankful would be an understatement.

Another funny, that first year she endured 11 snow and ice storms. In NC those often come together. First storm she calls me, “Mom what do I do? How do I prepare?”. Trying to be a good mom and comforting, I advise her to prepare as though a hurricane was coming. The next storm that came through she calls me early in the morning panicked because her car was iced. I calmly say, well you need an ice scraper I’ll order you one but right now pull out a credit card and that will suffice to clear your windshield. She starts crying and says mom you don’t understand my entire car is frozen. My doors are frozen shut🥶😲 Mom I tried water like we do in Florida and it just froze my car up more, I need help, I have to get to work! To which I reply, why in the hell are you calling me? I’m a Floridian, what the hell do I know about snow and ice? You better find a better resource 🤣 She called a co-worker😉

Lol. Was just the opposite for my first job out of school. in Virginia Beach I found myself the go to source for all things winter as the first year I was there the temps dipped into the 20s causing havoc. I can honestly say that prep for snow is very similar to that for hurricanes. Many old homes where I grew up even have shutters to protect windows from snow, ice and wind. we also put storm windows up every winter. On the other hand, clean up after snow is rarely as messy unless you live where the ice dams up the river/rivers flood with spring thaw. Although tossing sand at snow is far neater than coal ash. although it’s cold 🥶 as heck far fewer insects 🕷 are creeping and flying about with snow. Trade offs.

        • elliesmom says:

LOL. I have a friend who lives in St. Augustine and has a summer place on a lake in MA. She doesn’t have access to the summer place in the winter months so she decided she didn’t need winter clothes anymore. We wear the same size so she dumped all of her winter things on me. I have enough clothes for two women already, but before I did the Goodwill drop-off, I went through her things and found a few of what I knew were her favorites, and I hung them in my guest room closet. Sure enough, the very first winter she decided she needed to fly north for a few days. She arrived during a week like this wearing two sweatshirts and her husband’s socks. When she “checked into” my guest room, she found her winter coat, some wool pants, some turtlenecks, a couple of sweaters, and her snow boots. We now call it Judy’s winter closet.

          • Somebody says:

St. Agustine is a neat little town, do you ever visit her? If not, you should consider it. My recommendation would be spring, the spring here is lovely and it starts mid to late February😉

If by chance you do vist I suggest taking one of the trolley-tram tours. We’re just north of St. Augustine, I’ve lived here my entire life. I’ve always had an interest in local history. We took my youngest to St. Augustine during chemo one day when her ANC was pretty good. We did the red trolley/tram tour so she didn’t have to do too much walking. We really enjoyed it and I learned a couple of things I didn’t know😉

If you’re not into doing the tourist thing…..the last stop as at a local winery. They have free happy hour on their terrace with hors d’oeuvre or at least they used to. Although some of the tourist stuff is quite interesting. There’s lots of shopping too.

          • elliesmom says:

By the time she moved to St. Augustine, ED was not able to travel. She was very angry with me because I wouldn’t visit her by myself and leave him home. I’m not sure she realized just how sick he was, and his death caught her off guard. She didn’t come north last summer because things were so much more restricted here than there so it’s been awhile since I’ve seen her. She really loved the work my contractor did on my house, and he’s been to St. Augustine to do some work on hers. He says I should visit, too. Maybe when the cootie flu dies down, and she’s not afraid having company from around here is like inviting Typhoid Mary, she’ll extend an invitation again. We’ve known each other a long time. She just needs to find her way back to our friendship because I can get past some of the hateful things she said when I wouldn’t come the last time she asked me to. I still see her daughter from time to time.

Re-reading 1984 (it’s 1.79 on kindle and comes with Animal Farm) scary. I lastvreadvit in high school and didn’t pay much attention. Only about 6 chapters in as I am not all that comfortable reading on tablet. I like a book.

    • elliesmom says:

I preferred reading a book over a tablet until I sprang for a Kindle Paperwhite. It’s an eReader only, no internet. The text is on a background that mimics the color of paper. The screen is gently backlit, and there’s a good variety of fonts and sizes. The battery lasts for weeks instead of hours. I keep it in a cover that opens like a book, and it’s the size of a standard paperback. The Fire doesn’t feel right in my hands. I keep all of my books available to me on my Fire, too, but if I’m planning on sitting down to read a book for an exended time, I grab the Paperwhite. What I’m reading is synched across all of my devices.

      • Constance says:

I like both real books and my Nook or what ever it is, I’ve had 4 of them. With the Nook I can make the font larger so it’s easy to read. Book print seems too tiny for me now.

I’ve been looking for a pattern in the people who are being given high level positions. Not knowing a whole lot about some of them made it not jump right out at me. Yes, they are all Democrat synchphants, but there are a lot of those to choose from. Then Biden nominated Gina Raimondo, the Governor of Rhode Island to be Secretary of Commerce, and things fell into place. Biden isn’t looking for criminals although some of them may be. He’s looking for people who are politically savvy, but incompetent in the field they’ve been asked to oversee. So we get people like Pennsylvania’s “Rachel” Levine as an undersecretary of HHS, and we get Raimondo, governor of the state that ranks 50th in having a business friendly climate, at Commerce. He hasn’t chosen a single person who is an outstanding example in his or her field. Some people find it hard to hire someone smarter than they are. If Biden is making the choices, it could be that. In which case, he’s building a Cabinet of Dummies. But if it’s someone else picking his cabinet and staff, what is their motivation in putting someone like Jen Psaki as the daily voice of the administration? If Biden chose her, she falls into the no more competent than he is category, but why would a puppetmaster pick her? Or Gina? Or Rachel? Or Mayor Pete? They check off boxes, but there more competent people who would, too.

*If any of you have received notices that phones will no longer work sometime this year, 2021/early 2022 depending on the carrier, double check. Then Tripple check. Quite a few people are getting notices even though their devices will likely work for several more years. Mine turned 11 this past fall – a museum piece in terms of the cell phone timeline. Quarantine Cafe: HOLD THE LINE! Edition

Good video from Tim Pool. Supposedly — allegedly – the hedge fund guys are manipulating the price of GameStop, selling it back and forth at lower and lower prices so that the Rubes will see the reported price going down.

Note that the ban on buying the stock helps them in this deception, because if you were allowed to buy, those buys at higher prices would offset or even overwhelm the manipulated downward-sales prices.

They needed to get those buys repressed to run the con.

And the con is: They’re hoping people will see their Fake News stock price falling, and then panic, and then sell their stock to beat the fall.

So says Tim Pool and various people online, at least.

And so the word has gone out, broadcast by everyone except the hedge fund guys and their paid shills: HOLD THE LINE! Do not panic, do not sell. Do not let them manipulate you into selling. Hold your stock, keep the price high, and force them to pay billions upon billions to re-buy those stocks they need to complete their short sale.

So I’ll gladly repeat: HOLD THE LINE!

      Break them.

I’m about 35 miles north from the coast, but much farther west of it.. A big coastal storm will catch us, but they tend to drop most of the snow on Cape Cod, which is east and south of where I live. They’re calling this a nor’easter, but a nor’easter travels up the coast and picks up a lot of moisture along the way. This storm is tracking from the midwest, and those storms tend to be a lot drier. They can still dump a lot of snow, but it’s the dry powdery stuff that’s easy to clean up and doesn’t usually mess with the powerlines. I can only guess the meteorologists think this is going to swing a bit south before it heads north. But it shouldn’t have time to pick up much water compared to a true nor’easter. They haven’t predicted snowfall totals for anything east of Ohio yet.
