I remember “the plan” to drop bombs into the eyes of hurricanes to weaken them while they’re over open water. I guess that didn’t work?

      • Dora says:

I think the Russians had some success a while back. They stopped a hurricane from ruining a sports event.

Condemn the Biden administration’s bombing of Syria and tell Biden to immediately de-escalate. We need peace in the Middle East!
    The letter to Biden

    Dear President Biden,

We vigorously oppose your February 25 bombing of Syria. Syria is a sovereign nation. The militia you targeted poses absolutely no threat to the United States and is actually involved in fighting ISIS. Your actions simply escalate existing conflicts in the Middle East. This is not what you promised during your presidential campaign and it is certainly not what the American people want.

Your administration is claiming that its airstrikes were based on accurate intelligence regarding who was responsible for a recent rocket attack in Iraq. But a recent report by Middle East Eye suggests that Iran has strongly urged the militias it supports in Iraq to refrain from such attacks or any warlike actions that could disrupt its diplomacy to bring the U.S. and Iran back into compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). “None of our known factions carried out this [recent rocket] attack [in Iraq],” a senior Iraqi militia commander told Middle East Eye. “The Iranians are still keen to maintain calm with the Americans until they see how the new administration will act.”

The Pentagon has also made the incredulous claim that the bombing “aims to de-escalate the overall situation in both Eastern Syria and Iraq.” But this was countered by a member of Russia’s Federation Council who called the attack “unlawful” and said any similar escalations in the area could lead to “a massive conflict.” President Biden, your administration is playing with fire.

Bombing Syria will not strengthen the U.S.’s hand in its negotiations with Iran over the nuclear deal. Instead, it will make it more difficult for the U.S. to resume negotiations with Iran as it will give even more power to the Iranian factions who oppose diplomatic relations with the U.S. and reviving the JCPOA.

Lastly, without an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), you have no congressional authorization to go to war against a sovereign country. You must respect congressional war powers and cease military actions in the Middle East. As Representative Ro Khanna said, “We cannot stand up for congressional authorization before military strikes only when there is a Republican president. The Administration should have sought congressional authorization here. We need to work to extricate from the Middle East, not escalate.”

It is urgent that you cease military actions in the Middle East and immediately get the U.S. back into the Iran nuclear deal. We want diplomacy, not more war.

Code Pink is condemning Biden for bombing Syria. So much voter remorse out there, too bad so sad, you got what you voted for.

I seriously think, that President Trump’s peace and prosperity, lulled some people into a complacency they didn’t realize existed, or were aware of, all while they actively hated him. Lots of bubbles being burst out there in liberal lala land. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

    Those flowers are stunning!

    • elliesmom says:

I love things like that, and my old house had places that would show them off. In this house that floral piece would overwhelm any room I put it in. i haven’t had any trouble downsizing my belongings, but my taste in decorating is still lagging behind. I’m working on it, though. I put a daffodil wreath on my garage door yesterday. It’s the door you see from the street. But I think I jumped the gun a bit because it’s snowing again.

An economics course was required for everyone in my university, and I lucked out and got the prof who was a political cartoonist. I think it’s easier for some of us to remember what we learned if we have pictures in our heads. Being an engineering school, they didn’t hestitate to throw a lot of equations at us. But they aren’t needed to understand how and why. Just for how much.

Teachers today have a wealth of material available to them. They can get Feynman to lecture their physics class. Stephen Jay Gould to teach evolutionary biology. And Milton Friedman to teach economics

Now people are worrying if the second vaccine shot didn’t make them sick. Maybe their immune systems are too weak for the vaccine to work, or maybe there was something wrong with the dose they got. I’m also seeing posts where people are making multiple appointments different places and cancelling the extra ones after they get the shot. No one wonder it’s so difficult for people who want an appointment to get one. Some people have 3 or 4.

    • Miranda says:

My Aunt got her second pfizer shot and had no side effects. Her arm didn’t even get sore. We were pretty happy about it. In 2 weeks, we’re taking a shopping trip in the car. No masks in transit (they’re required in the stores) 🙂

I hope it’s a rumor because that makes me so sad and angry. I hate people who get pets and then neglect them.

    • elliesmom says:

It’s not hard to teach a dog not to get in the way of an elderly person. Ellie sometimes drives me nuts because she still follows the protocol for going up and down stairs she needed to follow when Elliesdad was on the stairs, too. I’m not going to try to dissuade her from doing it, though, because there may come a time when I need her to do it for me. The Bidens’ dogs are big dogs and harder to trip over than a small dog. How can you not see a German Shepherd in your path?

      • Miranda says:

If jumping is the problem, you can train them not to do that either. But that assumes you want a pet and not a virtue-signaling photo-op.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

I managed with mom, from her 80s into her mid 90s with Alzheimer’s and eventually a cane then walker, my brother with with a cane on chemo and my auntie in her 90s with a walker and multiple cats. Even cats learn to give the person space. They also reduce the high speed zooms. Same went for other aunties with dogs and/or cats after surgery/as they aged.

This is why many rescues suggest adult pets for the elderly. Kittens and puppies , cute as they are, do not yet have the self control and dart without warning or can be spooked easily.

The cabal who run the Biden presidency are afraid he will run for President in 2024 and he isn’t good puppet material. They prefer the genitally and skin color correct and always vapid Harris. Now if they can just keep wheeling Biden around for 2 years they can have 10 years in office with Kamala’s two terms. Of course I don’t think she can win even one term.

I’m assuming the applicants would have to meet the qualifications for admittance to the college or university. To be honest, most of the black students I taught in high school got substantial scholarships to any school they could get into. So separate the college’s bills into categories. Tuition, activity and lab fees, campus administrative costs, etc. Offer “free tuition” to the descendants of slaves. Then only accept the black kids you would have subsidized anyway. Give a couple of black kids who don’t qualify for financial aid “free tuition”. The university where I went to grad school gave the children of state employees “free tuition”, but after they subtracted all of the things not considered “tuition”, it wasn’t all that great a deal. I became friends with one of the profs who had college age kids, and he explained to me why sending his kids to a more expensive private school where they were eligible for a full financial aid package saved him money.

      • elliesmom says:

And money is fungible so telling the schools where they can and cannot get the money to fund this is ludirous. If the alumni want to fund this, they just make donations to school’s endowment.

FRIEDENS, Pennsylvania — Imagine if you had a job. A good job, one that required skill and critical thinking and had a broad impact in the community where you lived. A job you didn’t just show up to do. It was a job you were good at, and because of it, you were able to provide a roof over your family’s head, put your children through college, or help pay for their wedding, and once a year, it gave you the ability to carve out a week or two to take the family on vacation.

Now, imagine that job becomes the center of political debate, one far removed from the Laurel Mountains, where this town sits. Within two decades, your profession goes from being championed by the Democratic Party and labor officials to one that they want to destroy.

This is my home turf. People here in swampland visibly shiver when they hear the words like coal and stare as if you are speaking in tongues if you mention top grade anthracite with the slight blue hue that produces that lovely blue flame or bituminous used in forging iron and steel. They gag on the phrase natural gas. Don’t even bother mentioning shale Or slag.

Nuclear is despised . I swear there is a phobia related to the periodic table.

The Justice Department said the cities were designated as “anarchist” jurisdictions because they met criteria including “whether a jurisdiction forbids the police force from intervening to restore order amid widespread or sustained violence or destruction” and whether the city “disempowers or defunds police departments.”

The cities filed a lawsuit to invalidate the designation and fight off the Trump administration’s efforts to withhold federal dollars.
