Do you know what might be fun? Put up pictures of botanic gardens and see if we can guess where they’re from. Sometimes a city creates exactly what you’d expect to find there, and sometimes it’s a complete surprise.

    • swanspirit says:

I would never have guessed this one.

      • swanspirit says:

I wasn’t even sure it was in the United States.

        • elliesmom says:

i would have placed it in the midwest. It’s not “fussy”. I’m assuming the dome is a greenhouse. It overshaows the outdoor gardens at least in this photo, which says for a good part of the year it’s cold. The pond is obviously man-made, and there’s no attempt to hide that. Midwesterners appreciate the ability of humans to create things and don’t try to camouflage built structures as much as people do in some other places. The sculptures are beautiful in their simplicity, but you’d never find cherubs on simple poles in Savannah. The building style in the midwest is elegantly simple. A city like Chicago or Minneapolis is more ultilitarian than large cities in some other parts of the country. As you’re walking around, the word “quaint” never enters your mind. The only part of St. Louis I’ve visited is the airport, but this fits in with a city that would build the Arch in my mind.

I’ve been bombarded with rants about the horrible, terrible, no good Texas abortion law. After just a few days I’m tired of pointing out the law does not outlaw birth control methods some people classify as abortifacients. They stop a pregnancy long before six weeks. A woman going for medical care after a rape can still be given the “morning after pill”. Just not a “3 months after” one. No one can be sent to prison for performing an abortion. They can only be sued in civil court. The woman herself can’t be either sent to prison or sued unless she performs the abortion herself. Offred was not forced to bear children because abortion was outlawed in Gilead. There were so few women left with their fertility intact, the women who could bear children were forced to become “handmaids” and bear children for the women who couldn’t. The drama club ladies need to don their red dresses and white caps and protest at the CDC against giving young women vaccines they don’t need that may alter fertility. And maybe read the book.

good question. both states have good and bad things, which is a better place to live?

    • 1539days says:

The snowbird phenomenon splits the difference. Summers are more temperate in NY, but winters suck and are more pleasant in FL. The interesting thing to me about COVID is that it strongly made the case that the “convenience” of a dense population can also be a danger. I live in a part of NY state with low density. The politics are more conservative and we don’t have someone like DeBlasio telling us what to do. NYC de-populated because of COVID and remote work has made it slow to re-populate. Plus, people in NY have been taking COVID vacations in Florida even though they complain about the vaccination thing,

“Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive.”
Biden could care less about the military. Democrats tried to defund the war in 2006, yet Obama kept it going for the entire 8 years of his administration. Biden was the hype man, using the war to get Obama and him reelected. Now, there’s no PR value, so let everything burn down.

I was looking at some articles about the Texas abortion law. I guess the claim is that “most” women don’t know they’re pregnant at six weeks. Does anyone want to weigh in on that?

    • Somebody says:

I didn’t know I was pregnant at six weeks, except with my first. We were actively trying with our first. I was on the pill with my second and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. I happened to go in for my annual checkup and pap-smear when I was about 8 to 10 weeks pregnant and the doctor noticed my uterus was swollen and it appeared I was with child.

My third child I was unaware because I wasn’t paying attention. I did have symptoms but chalked them up to stress. I was accompanying my father to a variety of medical facilities and doctors because something was wrong, but we didn’t know exactly what. My father was finally diagnosed with ALS on the day my pregnancy was confirmed. I was almost 4 months pregnant by then.

    • Constance says:

I knew by 6 weeks but I can see how a lot of young girls would hope themselves not pregnant for months and only let themselves think it when it was beyond obvious to everyone else. But birth control is more advanced than it was in 1970. The hormone level in BCpills is much lower, IUD have changed to cause less problems, other forms have been developed. And I think everyone knows about the morning after pill. Anyway it is only one state right now. If a woman figures out she is pregnant at 3months in Texas she can still go to the next state if she is determined to get and abortion.

    • elliesmom says:

In general, if a woman is trying to get pregnant, she has the pregnancy test already bought and ready to use at the first sign she might be pregnant. If she knows there’s a possibility she might be pregnant and will likely abort the pregnancy, she’ll be ready to find out ASAP. If she’s not concerned one or the other, it might not dawn on her to get tested right away.

The problem with the 6 week limit is there are women who don’t want to be pregnant, know they could be, and wish fervently if they just wait, it will go away. But behavior can adjust when circumstances change. With abortion only being available for a short time, women will have to think about whether they would chose to abort a baby beforehand and be prepared to act, and that might result in better contraceptive habits. No matter how old the mother is, an abortion is a death sentence for the baby. That ought to be part of sex ed, too, but too many kids are caught up in the “just a bunch of cells” malarkey, and we know who pushes that.

Same friends who said my 15 year old is having sex based on volley ball pics have told me now I will regret my stance when Shayla has abotions. Plural! Not an abortion. AbortionS

I am pro life. I have always been. Never have I ever said anything about a woman choosing. I don’t go there. I was at a loss with sex stuff. I get there can be envy. I can process my closest friends going after my kid. She’s 5’6, tiny waist and a C/D cup. She’s an athlete with straight A’s. My best friend had her daughter thrown out of Catholic school. I am only half reject. I get my dearest wanting to see my kid fail. I have done nothing to deserve my brat. We talk usually me sitting in the hall. I will always be there. She is foever and for always gonna know where to find me. I will be there.
Good friends telling me she will have multiple abortions. What the fuck? Who not employed by The New York Times wishes abortion on a 15 year old.

    • elliesmom says:

I don’t know exactly what your friends said, but when a person says he or she believes in the Right to Life to someone who supports abortion, a standard response is to say he or she will change position when someone he or she loves has an unwanted pregnancy. It’s not a reflection of what that person thinks of the person who may find herself pregnant. It’s an accusation of hypocrisy to the person professing to be against abortion. In all fairness, a lot of people who say they are against abortion do have a change of heart when someone dear to them finds herself with an unwanted pregnancy. It’s a real test of one’s convictions.

Con-fidence means “with trust and faith”. The Rothschilds MO is to ‘con’ the American people’s trust and faith and confidence in the nation’s leadership (a secret monarchy hidden from the people). The world’s intelligentsia has lost trust and faith in the Rothschilds because all the federal government and its CIA-MSM do anymore is lie about fake plagues, fake shootings, fake genocides, fake terrorism, fake genocides. Ted Turner and Joe Biden have to begin taking responsibility for this massive Rothschilds failure.
