Brought this up from down below:

ZeroHedge can be a bit iffy, but I reviewed their French-language (governmental) sources and the story checks out: French senate wants to make vaccination mandatory for EVERYBODY starting January 1. 135 euros for refusing, 1500 if you refuse 3 times. Also 135 for each kid under your parental authority, and 1500 if you refuse 3 times for each kid. So I’m looking at a bill of 7500 euros. Which I do happen to have, so fuck them.

This is an impressive turn out for Providence, RI…………

    • elliesmom says:

RI is also one of the places parents are taking a huge stand against school boards. As I’ve said before, outside of Providence this is a red state. But all of the people outside of Providence aren’t enough to populate a good sized city so a “huge crowd” is a relative thing.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection teaches at Cornell, but he’s a native to RI. His site is the only place I ever see very much about politics in RI. Given the size of the state and its influence in national politics, it’s not surprising. There’s also a lot of hullabaloo here about Sheldon Whitehouse’s all white beach club membership. Just when it starts to wind down a bit, he makes another dumbass comment related to Kavanaugh and starts it up again. He can’t let go of being made to look like a jerk during the confirmation hearings so he doubles down on being a jerk. The politics here are entertaining if not consequential.

      • elliesmom says:

As an aside- that’s from “ABC6 News”, which is actually a Massachusetts TV station in New Bedford. The only TV station in RI is WPRI in Providence. They didn’t cover the protest enough for it to make their website. They carried a news conference from the Governor where he said he “hoped” his office could help find the displaced nurses jobs “outside of healthcare” so they can feed their families. Many of the state’s EMTs work for small towns that have fewer than 100 employees. Those who are unvaccinated are continuing to work. The Governor is going to pull their licenses if they don’t get vaccinated so his “sympathy” is a bunch of crocodile tears.

Rhode Island and Connecticut are Bush country. No place for gay Liberaces. And I say gay because, are there any straight Liberaces? Schwarzman? But he acts gay. Inbred test tubes index stupidly high for gay-dom. Virtuous cycle? Not on the evidence.

          • elliesmom says:

Rhode Island isn’t Bush country, but you’re right about CT. While the two states are linked geographically, when you cross the stateline, you’ve entered a different world politically. Economically and religiously, too. The folks in CT and RI don’t have much in common. During the beginning of the pandemic when folks were trying to escape from New York, they drove right through Connecticut to Rhode Island because they knew they’d find no safe haven there. We had so many New Yorkers being welcomed here, Governor Gina put state troopers at the state line to turn them back. But folks here sent their New Yorker friends directions on how to avoid the troopers and hid the cars with the NY plates in their garages. Rhode Islanders are a rebellious bunch, and that’s not “Bush”.

          • threewickets says:

Are you saying Rhode Island is not Ted Turner Bush and Donald Kagan Bush country? Who made you king.

          • threewickets says:

I wouldn’t fuck with Turner or the Kagans lol.

          • elliesmom says:

I live here. Do you live here, too? I’d love to see the genealogy you’ve created mapped out. Ted Turner won the America’s Cup in Newport in 1977. I suppose that might make him a political force to be reckoned with in RI. Donald Kagan is dead. He was a prof at Yale and connected to Bush. But not to RI politics. His kids have no connection to RI. Where does Sheldon Whitehouse fit into your conspiracy? He’s alive, well, and actually a political force in RI.

          • threewickets says:

Do you know that Donald Kagan is dead? Did you hold his hand at the funeral and was it cold? Turner, Kagan, his son and the group loosely called the Brown Board control the spigots on the close to one trillion with a t invested by the Fortune 500 every year in offline and online entertainment content in the US and the world. The board can make a few calls and turn out the lights, for example, at your CAA overnight. Were you born yesterday?

Do school board’s have much power?
I had to deal twice with episodes which took place in the school. One was a straight couple getting detention for holding hands in the hallway while a lesbian couple was allowed to sit on a lap during a movie. I made noise because pup was outraged. I have always fought against her ever playing victim. I didn’t infuse her with everything I have to board the pity train. My stance has always included sure turn the other cheek but kick them in the balls while you do it. All the girls were upset about it. I spoke directly with the superintendent and principal. They heard me and it was resolved.
The second was cnn ten. There was 20 minutes before or after lunch which had been recess. Cold or rainy days kids went to the gym, nice days outside. Someone decided propaganda was a better use of the time. Children were resentful. I brought it up at parent/teacher conference. We were all seated in a deathly pale skinny science teacher glared at me. Union rep. I made my case, cnn 10 became an option and since no kids opted for it is gone. The smartest teacher in the room who holds a doctorate told me to watch out for the rep. She raved about brat. Said she was her favorite student ever and said Miss Pissy Pants will remember. Lo and behold monster didnot get invited to advanced biology. I had Crud make her case directly to said teacher. I said be mature and make her answer. Do not become rude or indignant. Be professional. I said you have been slighted for something I said. Oh did we get a long apology and it was an oversight. I don’t think she expected the child to make her own case. She wanted me to be problematic. I do not have legal custody. It’s a small school. You get off track with STEM classes and you are screwed for high school career. Brat is in Chem I &2 this year. It’s accelerated. A year of chem is taught in a half year. There are only 9 kids. She will do physics one and two over next two years. Had she not been in advanced biology which is bio 1 and 2 she would not have been able to follow the track. I was warned and do believe because I said cnn 10 is propaganda she thoughtshe had the power to dictate my brat’s future. I treasure most of the teachers. 99%. Several of the young guns live in same town. They all know my Bella. My very bad, wierd dog walked by the gay guy wearing MAGA hat is minor celebrity.
I wonder if these school board meetings with outrage could have had better results by going directly to the school superintendent. Again my district is small. I make my case and always inform I am recording. I would take legal action if I felt me brat was slighted. I would end you if you fucked with mine. Never have I understood how celebrities tortured by papparazzi don’t hire their own papparazzi to hound the worst privacy offenders. Give them a dose of their own medicine. Then I’d go Barbara Eden from Harper Valley PTA

      Awesome song awesomely performed.

    • elliesmom says:

The PTA or PTO is a social organization. They raise money for the things not in the school budget they’d like the kids to have, provide scholarship money for kids who want to sign up for things out of their family budget, and plan social events. While some prarents use a meeting to air grievances, the PTA has no authority to do anything that isn’t under their club activities. You can use it to vent and maybe find an ally or two, but nothing really happens. The PTA in most towns is more active in the lower grades. By the time kids get to high school the parents have sorted themselves into special interest groups.

School boards are elected officials. They hire and fire the school administrators, negotiate the school budget with the city or town administration and the contract with the teachers’ union. They oversee contracts for things like the school buses and school cafeterias. They are responsible for defining the city or towns’ educational philosophy and approving the curriculum standards. The school administrators, not the school board, hire and fire teachers and decide how the discretionary funds allotted to each school will be spent. A school board would only get involved in firing a teacher if the teacher is appealing the decision. A school board doesn’t get involved with parents who are complaining about the treatment of their individual child unless there’s a paper trail of the issue moving through the system, or the child is being expelled from school. That needs a school board vote (done in private executive session). When we wanted a change in school policy regarding our son’s schooling during his cancer treatment, the school superintendent bumped it up to the school board because it would effectively change a major school policy, but the principal could grant him permission to wear a hat at school because that was a just a relaxation of the dress code. Most issues, even contentious ones, get resolved at the school level. That’s why all of these parents showing up at board meetings is making the news.

    • swanspirit says:

When I worked at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, for about 6 months I was the charge nurse in the nursery, where all of the babies 0 to 2 years stayed. For a while, we had an extremely bright 18 month old girl, who screamed almost all the time. We tried everything, she still screamed. Finally, the treatment team, which at that time included Dr Godenne

decided to observe the interaction between the mother and the baby. It was actually rare, that we had a mother, of an infant or child, to visit, so we took the opportunity to document the interaction. Turned out, the mother, was extremely limited, most likely developmentally delayed, and had little to no reaction to her obviously not developmentally delayed child. She did not respond to her child’s desperate attempts to engage her, in any way. So the baby screamed.
We all loved that little girl so much, we made extraordinary efforts to engage her, until she was placed in a very carefully selected foster home, where the foster mother was so delighted to have her, and she was the only child. When we followed up, she was doing great, and had stopped screaming. The mom still visited, but her lack of interaction wasn’t much of a problem, anymore.

What an accomplished woman! How fortunate to have worked wit( her. It sounds as though she turned treatment and care for children and adolescents into almost an art form.

        • swanspirit says:

And she was very funny. When treatment team met, lots of people offered opinions. If someone mentioned Freud, she would say, “oh Freud, anything longer than it was wide was a penis.” She always wanted to hear from the nurses, because she wanted to know what the babies and children were doing, behaviorally. She was warm, and approachable, and never condescending. I was very fortunate to have worked with her, the woman “little god”

I am so against universal day care. I am with a child 15 years later because I stopped in a welfare day care center to pick up a little girl I had meant once. My life changed forever. I was a gay dude living in NY doing well. At almost 40 things were falling into place. I got on the wrong bus. A local- could I pick up the kid. 9 months old. I was so infuriated/disgusted. Smelled like shit actual shit. Cribs lined along a wall like prison cells. Baby girl had been neglected all day she had met me once maybe twice. I picked her up those chubby infant arms clung to me in desperation. I felt her clinging to me. I often say I went Norma Rea. I did. Pup never returned. I CHOSE to be there. I am proud. I had no idea what I was doing. We put a plastic pool on the deck. We splashed around for hours. She got bigger I bought blow up pools. We played magic fish all the time in a twisted way and talked for hours. She out grew intex pools I sent her to swimming lessons. I can’t really swim. She has broken several high school records. She has spoken at Carnegie Mellon University about coding. She has lunched with state senators regarding STEM for girls. What if I had looked upon her at wee age and walked away. Gone back to NYC. Where, what would be her path? My Lord when she had a boy pull out a wagon from under her in pre school. Broken collar bone. A whole summer in front of us. I cracked open the first Harry Potter. I read til she fell asleep. Never wanted to go to sleep. We’d read all night into the day and then watch the movies. I read outloud every word of every Potter book. I gave her a base. What if she had been left to mire away day after day in welfare daycare. My heart broke when I saw the little one so bereft. I’ve given her most of my retirement by choice. She attended the Pittsburgh CLO for years. I’ve had people say that is spoiling. Cost then 600 a semester 1200 a year payable over 12 months. They offer incredible financial aid. You actually have to do something for your kids. it was like Fame. 25 a week. Two packs of smokes.
Scares me thatmoderate to low income people think government daycare is a healthy choice. What are the odds a great gay uncle with childhood illness could raise a sports star?
The McDonald’s she worked at when 14 she came to me and said she wanted to quit. I asked why, she was vague but I felt something. I never let her quit things until she gives it a year. I let her quit. The manager has been arrested for underage trafficking from a suburban mcD’s. I asked if he ever and she said no, but he had made statements. I ssid why didn’t you tell me. She said it was subtle. Looks like 5 girls. My monster was able to say shit’s not right and get out. What becomes of kids spending age 0 to 4 in the company of uneducated late teens who are on snapchat and ignoring a dozen kids?

      • swanspirit says:

The odds that a great gay uncle raised a star, were good, because you cared, and you took the time and trouble to raise her with love and attention. Attention she would never have gotten in that day care.❤

      • jadzia1971 says:

I had to pull my kid out of a day care center once when I showed up unexpectedly early and discovered him in a back room (not shown to me when I toured or ever when I picked him up before) with about ten other kids, sleeping in CAGES. Like rabbit cages. Wire on the top bottom and all sides.

Guess who the state shut down two days later?

And guess who, according to the other parents who were inconvenienced by the shutdown, was the real bad guy?

        Worst 30th birthday ever.

I just returned from MD Anderson with a little margarita lunch pit stop😉 The doctor I saw has 27 years experience in gyn/onc and has treated my cancer before. He flatly disagrees with the recent prognosis and suggested treatment plan I’ve been given.

This doctor did not have the benefit of my most recent MRI I had last Friday. I took the report with me, which also disagreed with the PET findings. He asked for a disk of the MRI which has now been delivered. Said MRI cements his view.

My entire case will go before a tumor board and they’ll have at least 3 radiologists review my scans, but this doctor feels I should be on watch and wait. He disagrees I should go into chemo based on microscopic, intermittent flashes on a scan. Especially considering I’ve had surgeries and radiation in these areas that could cause a fleeting, faint flash which is what they saw.

Tuesday I see Mayo for a 3rd opinion, but today I feel like I’ve been given a death row pardon. I rarely drink, but had margaritas with lunch and melted away a lot of stress🤣

Pope Francis And The Vatican Will Bring The One World Religion Of Chrislam To The United Nations COP26 Climate Change Conference In Glasgow

The Vatican hopes a meeting where world religious leaders will take a common stand on the environment can “raise ambitions” on what can be achieved at next month’s U.N. Climate Change Conference, its foreign minister says. The leaders, including Pope Francis, will sign a joint appeal and hand it to Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and Britain’s Alok Sharma, president of the U.N. gathering known as COP26 in Glasgow. “It is our hope that the Monday meeting will give an impact to opinion in general but within our faith groups and faith families and also within the political community to raise ambitions with regards to what can be achieved by COP26,” said Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
