I’ve seen photos of this memorial but never the real thing. If I ever get back to DC, it will be one of my first stops. I think it is beautiful. Thank you for using this image.

Same here. I really would like to see that memorial.

In person, it takes your breath away as they are larger than life and it’s almost a spiritual wave that comes over you. It’s near the Viet Nam Wall, another emotional ride that turns me to pudding 😉 I wanted to use the Korean boys for the obvious fall color in the header, but remembered today is about the living vets. I want to see the Korean Memorial in the winter, as it’s meant to be seen………..

A personal favorite. The intricacy of the sculptures and the fact that it has been designed as if you are there with the troops truly makes it a standout. At night or when it rain/snows it is hauntingly beautiful.

Here a bit more about the memorial:

Lucy trailer is out, as well as the tears of the Debra Messing fans that she didn’t get the part 😀

    • lateblum says:

Oh, I’m so glad I’ll be able to see it!

    • Mt.Laurel says:

Oh my, I took a quick look and boy people are really steamed over messing missing out on the part she evidently campaigned hard to get. evidently she was ignored more than once. Ouch!

And heaven help us they cast a Spanish actor to play a Cuban which has its own angry mob threatening to boycott or something.

I caught a couple episodes of the show messing was on (I did not know her name at the point) and found her really annoying so never bothered to watch any more. I would not have thought of her for any role let alone Lucy. maybe I will watch just to register my anti messing vote.

From the clip I thought Vivian looked young. Turns out the actress is about 20 years younger than Nicole

I was an American Legion brat so both Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day were highly celebrated in my family. Both holidays started with parades and pomp. but there the similarities ended. Memorial Day was a big family affair. Chicken barbecues and bocce tournaments. Lots of little kids and “spare grandpas”. The WWI vets were the ones who taught us how to properly handle the flags and to play bocce and told us lots of stories about “the War to End All Wars”. I learned more about WWI from them than I ever learned in school.

Veterans’ Day was different. After the parade I walked home. The Legionnaires, all men except for one WAC who also became my high school guidance counselor, gathered at the Legion Hall for their own party. My dad was one of the bartenders so he always came home almost sober, but there were a lot of worried wives around town that day. When I got my driver’s license, my dad started calling me to give drunk Legionnaires a ride home. The problem with that was the next morning all the cars were still at the Legion Hall. So a few of the other older brats and I started a Veteran’s Day “ferry service”. A guy would leave his car keys on a board. When it was decided it was time for him to go home, one of us would drive him home in his car, and another one of us would drive behind and give the “ferry driver” a ride back. There was one veteran who would only let me drive him home because I knew how to drive a stick. The thing is his car had an automatic transmission. He just still went through all of the gears anyway. and I was willing to indulge him. The system worked pretty well. There was no more coaxing drunk guys out of the car. We could just leave a stubbborn old coot in his own car, ring the doorbell, and give whoever was there the keys.

When supporting their beautiful clubhouse got to be a bigger financial burden than the guys could handle, they accepted an offer from someone who wanted to turn it into a wedding venue. It already was for the Legion brats. The guys threw one last bash there, and I was invited. It was a lot of fun, and the last time I saw all of them together until they helped me through my dad’s funeral. The fellows gave me one of the sets of bocce balls and an honorary title in the Land Navy for saving countless lives on November 11th. I’m sorry my kids were never part of a “family” like that.

Wonderful story. Wish you would pen a memoir. It’s easy to pay perfunctory respect to those who served, but I confess I’ve never expended the energy to think much about their lives after facing the horrors. How they came together afterwards in a shared experience. Something they can only relate with each other. I had a very visual experience reading your post.. You avoid lugubrious sentimentality while evoking so much.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla Says That Vaccine Refusers Are ‘Murderous Criminals’ Who Seek To Stop The ‘New Way Of Life’ Trying To Come In

“Those people are criminals,” Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla told Atlantic Council CEO Frederick Kempe. “They’re criminals because they have literally cost millions of lives.” Bourla’s comments come as millions of eligible adults in the U.S. have yet to get vaccinated even though the shots have been available to most Americans most of this year. Public health experts say misinformation is likely playing a large role. “The only thing that stands between the new way of life and the current way of life is, frankly, hesitancy to vaccinations,” he said. Bourla said Tuesday that life for many people can go “back to normal” once many of the unvaccinated get vaccinated.

does anyone here know how to report a scam to facebook? A friend of mine, I worked with her mom thinks she got a large grant and it is a scam. She was injured in a motorcycle accident and has had several brain surgeries She gave the scam artist my name, I played the game last night and could see it was a scam. I do not want to see her hurt, she has had enough problems, she does not need any more.

How SARS-CoV-2 in American deer could alter the course of the global pandemic

That is, the animals could carry the virus indefinitely and spread it back to humans periodically.

If that’s the case, it would essentially dash any hopes of eliminating or eradicating the virus in the U.S. — and therefore in the world — says veterinary virologist Suresh Kuchipudi at Penn State, who co-led the study.

We’ve known this from the start. This virus is “zoonotic”, and scientists have known this from the point it was traced back to the labs in Wuhan. But a virus that cannot be eradicated by a vaccine didn’t fit the narrative.
