Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

I met my first French anti-vaxxer today. It’s my nail lady, who comes to my house. We’ve both been wearing masks during appointments for months, both of us thinking it’s not necessary, both of us too afraid to say anything to the other. And on the vax she says “Fuck no, not until there are long-term studies” because she was injured by an early version of the HPV vaccine as a teenager. She also told me–consistent with my own observations–that her friends who work in hospitals are telling her that the hospitals are NOT overwhelmed, at least not in our city.

I gave her a “This is my pass sanitaire [graphic shows a QR code and a hand giving the viewer the middle finger]” mask as a Thanksgiving present, ha ha. I have like 20 of them.

Glad you have found you are not alone.

Hospitals in some areas of the USA are facing bed availability difficulties but when you look at the stats it becomes apparent that the problem is not What is being portrayed by much of the media. Between staff burnout, some refusing spots in icu or other other high stress departments because they are nearing burnout, the vaccine mandates and the quarantine requirements for anyone exposed/family member exposed staffing is a nightmare. Add to that the supply chain problems many are seeing and you simply cannot operate at typical levels. Joey built this with jillie “helping” all the way.

Thanksgiving gets back to a new normal: 53M Americans pack airports, board trains and hit the roads as travel hits level not seen since pandemic began. Pricier flights and fuel price spikes all make for testing holiday

I was in and out of stores in four distinct areas this week trying to track down a few items for work. Found that the snotty people near the office local and home are still paranoid and masking to the max even outdoors and covid was the hot topic .while getting into the more worker bee areas of both Maryland and Virginia people were happy and laughing and wishing people a happy thanksgiving 🍁🦃 and giving tips on which grocery stores had what in stock with no Debbie downers in sight. It was very interesting. I do think it’s funny that our little condo community goes against the larger community we are part of with no formal declarations or protests we just tossed those masks over a year ago for trash runs and dog walks and in the hallways and never went back.

Happy Thanksgiving to to everyone and their kin at TCH and thanks just for being here.

Happy, Happy to all. This is for EM when she peeks in……………. 😀

    • Dora says:

I’ve always heard that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated someplace in between, like Long Island? 🙂

    • Mt.Laurel says:

I had to go fire up the computer as it does not show on the tablet and am still laughing. Growing up we always departed Penn’s Woods for the Old Dominion the Friday after Thanksgiving for our fall vacation (Mom hated the heat of summer so vacations we in cooler weather) to see the sights and visit the family in Maryland and Virginia. Dad would always tell people we were heading out to celebrate where the real deal took place.

It is why we were able to easily visit Arlington Cemetery the week of JFKs funeral as Dad had made travel plans for immediate post Thanksgiving trip and we were already booked in a hotel nearby for a few days before heading toward Jamestown.

I’m headed to a friend’s house later. She ordered one of those pre-cooked Thanksgiving dinners from a grocery store. When her son went to pick it up after work last night, they had lost her order. They gave him the dinner free, but the turkey is raw. I had baked a 10 lb ham yesterday so there will be dinner. I offered to roast the turkey for her, but she was so upset she couldn’t tell me if the turkey is still frozen. So we’ll have ham for dinner and see about roasting the turkey after I get there. I’m trying to assure her this is how Thanksgiving memories are made, and it will go down in her family annals as the “year we ate the Thanksgiving turkey on Friday”. I put a couple of bottles of wine in my basket of goodies. 🙂

I hope everyone has a day blessed by still being here. ❤

If you’re bored this weekend, Yellowstone is marathoning all their seasons up to the current episodes this season on Paramount. Yippeee, Ki Yay !

    • lateblum says:

Thanks for the info. I just found out I actually get Paramount, so I set it to record Yellowstone. Yippeee Ki Yay! Although isn’t that more a “Die Hard” phrase.
I also set it to record Die Hard and Draft Day (two of my faves) ❤

      • DeniseVB says:

LOL, I played a cowgirl in an elementary school play and Yippee Ki Yay was my only line 😀 But you’re right about John McClane too ! I wonder if Kevin Costner owns Paramount? They recently marathoned all his movies, lol. Not that there’s anything wrong with that……love me some Kevin and growing old with him 😉

        • lateblum says:

I have the same ?? about Kevin Costner and Paramount. They are doing a bunch of his movies today and tomorrow. Maybe even beyond… but I couldn’t look further ahead on my app. 😍

        • elliesmomg says:

One of my favorite Costner films was Three Days to Kill. He plays an aging CIA agent with a terminal illness whose goal in the time he has left is to make amends with his estranged daughter before he dies. I laughed, I cried, and I watched it twice.

  14. votermom says:

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Just piddling around this morning, otherwise, a normal day 🙂

Any fans of Young Sheldon ? “Sheldon’s” real life Dad plays King George in “Hamilton”. I thought that was nifty until I found out “MeeMaw” wears a wig in the show, Annie Potts’ natural “do” is short and dark brown, she’s still adorable 😀

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted—for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions—to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually—to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed—to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord—To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us—and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New-York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.
