    BREAKING: AOC sips cocktails in free state of Florida as New York Covid cases skyrocket

    A Twitter account affiliated with Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis posted, “Welcome to Florida, AOC! We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership.”

    Christ on a cracker I think I’m in moderation again, for posting a link to a beautiful LA Times essay on Joan Didion and grief.

      A woman who lost her husband suddenly said “The Year of Magical Thinking” got her through it.

      • lateblum says:

        I gave this book to my co-grandmother who lost her husband unexpectedly. Years later she told me that the book helped her tremendously. (She couldn’t remember who had given it to her when she was telling me about it.😉)

    These assholes have eagerly collaborated in treating the unvaccinated like plague rats, so I will pop my popcorn AT HOME and enjoy watching them go down.

    • jadzia1971 says:

      My favorite “seethe and cope” response from these guys is the indie theater operator who is like oh no, this is good, this is good, we think MORE people will come now that they don’t have to smell that icky popcorn!

      • 1539days says:

        I think the “movie theater in every town” concept is done for. They make most of their money on opening weekend and then end up playing to five people at a small movie screen 3 weeks later. At this point, nature has defeated mankind. Everyone will get omicron and will have to eventually get over it.

        • Mothy67 says:

          Adult themed films are never going to be the draw they once were. Why drop between 50 and a 100 (for 2) to see something that isn’t laden with FX. The shared experience lends itself best to action, horror, and comedy and those are seen largely by young men and dates. They are also the crowd which accepts concession prices. The big cities may always host the films as they have with arthouse flicks. Most city dwellers don’t have the room in an apartment to hold a dozen friends over to watch Licorice Pizza.
          The last movie the brat saw in a theater that she had to see was IT Chapter 1. When she has a moderate amount of disposable income she wants to go out to a nice dinner with her friends. There’s a 55 inch tv in her room. When I was in high school going to the movies was a big deal. Kid never mentions it.
          When will the greenies who want us to eat insects take on the waste of cinema. How much energy is used to heat and cool. All the junk food is in wasteful containers. Family films might continue because it is an event to see Easter Bunny together.

        • lateblum says:

          The multiplex in Evanston closed at least a year ago. I still have hundreds of dollars of gift cards to it bc my kids and friends know how much I love going to the movies. But now Evanston, a little town of 80k and home to Northwestern University and Rotary International and other businesses and organizations, has one entertainment venue – besides the university theater department – for live music.
          So now, people have to go to another town, spend money there, and watch as another large business opportunity is lost. (and our taxes continue to rise to accommodate the reparations and other woke enterprises of the current progressive city government)

    CIA Experimented On 100s Of Orphans, Torturing Them To Reveal Psychopathic Traits; Report

    • lateblum says:

      I once worked with a student who, I thought, had some pretty irredeemable qualities. He later went on to help develop the tortures the US used on Iraqi prisoners and at Guantanamo. When I met him several yrs later, he actually boasted about his role.
      “No self awareness” was something I had written on his evaluation.

  10. elliesmom says:

    I’m about halfway through Robert Kennedy’s book. I’m reading it on Kindle, but I bet it weighs 10 pounds in print. The notes at the end of each chapter are almost as long as each chapter, which all end with an optical scan code so he can keep the book updated. There’s a bit of confirmation bias here and there. His love for his Uncle Ted shines through, but all in all, I think he’s being pretty centered. I had written him off as a quack, but the way he describes how Fauci and his cohorts set out to discredit him has become all too familiar. I’m in the middle of Fauci’s rise to power after completely botching AIDS/HIV, and I think I might need some Xanax. The soft music and sleeping dogs at my feet just aren’t soothing enough.

    Fauci is pure evil. Hanging would be too humane. He needs to be put in a wood chopper while he’s still alive- and I’m only halfway through the book.

    I think he should!

    Florida zoo cleaner who was mauled by a tiger when he put his arm in to its enclosure before being saved by cops who shot and killed the big cat may face criminal charges

    • 1539days says:

      The zoo bathroom cleaner? Yes. That guy used a job that had nothing to do with animal care to get himself into danger and got an animal killed who was just doing what tiger does. Cops should have freed the guy by chopping his hand off.

    • Miranda says:

      He definitely should. He got a beautiful animal killed with his stupidity and selfishness.

    has anyone seen racial stats on kung flu/? They keep saying it is hurting minorities but never offer data to back it up.

  15. lateblum says:

    Perhaps I should explain my angry tone today. The nursing home where dd#2 is, tests everyone on Tuesdays. This week they reported that dd tested positive and To My Face, blamed her going to the family Christmas breakfast where they were certain she contracted kung flu. (I wanted to hurt them as) I explained that EVERYONE had to test negative before they could attend the breakfast. And I asked them to re-test her. They refused and moved her into quarantine without any warning. She wasn’t allowed to bring anything with her including her phone charger or tablet or word search book and pen. Until late last night she didn’t even have sheets or a pillow on her bed. There is no tv, nothing for her to do. She is not sick, has no symptoms and is angry. But not quite as angry as I am. They fail to consider she has had a false positive test result in the past. We both feel helpless because they say they “have to” place her in “the Covid Wing” for two weeks per IDPH regs.
    I swear they are being punitive. Especially since they refuse to retest her.
    Since the breakfast, everyone who attended the party has been tested – including the children.
    ALL have tested NEGATIVE. Makes no difference. She is stuck. It’s like being in solitary confinement except that she doesn’t get out of the room an hour a day.
    My NY resolution is to find a better place for her.

      I would be just as mad as you

    • Locked-N-Loaded says:

      I would be totally pissed too!! I just don’t understand why people are so mean to others!!

    • Somebody says:

      Leslie, I am so sorry to hear about this. I would complain to administration because it does sound punitive. BTW, the new quarantine guidelines are 5 days, or until your fever breaks or until most of your symptoms have subsided. I’d make damn sure they follow the new CDC guidelines, which means she should be back in her room.

      • lateblum says:

        Thanks, Somebody. I told them that already. They said they follow the Illinois Dept of Public Health. And since she is in a ltc facility in IL, the rules they follow says he stays quarantined for 14 days. I plan on contacting the IL Ombudsman for nursing homes to report this on Monday morning.
        My heart is just breaking for her right now. I’m going to visit her at her window tomorrow.

    • Constance says:

      That is horrible. I’m mad too. I hope you find a home for her that you both love.

      1. Cloth masks are ineffective against omicron (Leanna Wen, CNN);
      2. The vaccinated can spread and get covid;
      3. The death rate is comparable to the flu (Chris Hayes);
      4. Many people are entering hospitals with covid, not from covid (Fauci);
      5. Natural immunity is a reason omicron hasn’t been as virulent (Fauci);
      6. We have to take into account societal needs, not just spread prevention (CDC);
      7. The asymptomatic should not be tested (NFL);
      8. We should focus on hospitalizations and deaths, not case rate (Biden);
      9. Children are not at risk and schools should remain open;
      10. Covid is predominantly an illness affecting the immunocompromised and elderly and we should not shut down society.

      Those of us in reality have been saying all this for months and most of it since May 2020. But your political priors were more important than the data. You had to have your demonization narrative.
      So welcome to reality. And f*** all y’all for pretending you didn’t know this so you could have fun crapping on Trump and DeSantis and all your red state relatives.
      And btw, AOC and all you Leftist covid fanatics — those whose virtue signaling authoritarian lockdown nonsense that has resulted in millions of lives destroyed — stay in your states and leave mine alone.
      We chose data and freedom. You chose alarmism and unearned moral superiority. Stay in NY, NJ, CA, and the rest — and enjoy the actual paranoid nanny state you created among your friends who reward you for telling them they will kill their kids and grandma if they don’t panic.

      • 1539days says:

        I’m almost certain that most of this is just (correctly) playing down the danger of omicron COVID to protect Joe Biden. If Trump were still in the White House, there would probably be another fake impeachment trial over some imagined COVID crime and the death toll would be the entire newscast every night.

        I think we might be better off with Trump 2024 than Trump 2020.

    Colorado fire update: Some good news, no deaths reported, no missing persons and only a few minor injuries!! Also, it appears so far that my granddaughter’s apartment complex did not catch fire. In the map that Lyn posted above, the apartment complex is right in the middle, just to the left (west) of Coal Creek Golf Course.
