I was thinking of Mt.Laurel this morning when reports of people being stranded on I-95 for more than 15 hours led and hour of the morning news. Also hearing the temps are dangerously cold for those poor people.
Honestly, my prayers are up for everyone out there. I remember being stranded outside South Bend, IN in a blizzard at 3am. That fearful memory has stayed with me since my oldest was four yrs only. She’s 49 now.

It would seem to me, given the regularity of these events, this area would put a little more thought into winter driving conditions. Like outfitting their garbage trucks with snowplows and teaching their drivers how to plow. Lower plow, drive down the street. Turn around and drive down in the opposite direction. Surely, there are pickup truck drivers in the area who could be contracted with towns to plow the side streets. They wouldn’t need to purchase a heavy duty plow in that area. Maybe a town could buy a few plows and rent them out to pickup owners. When they got done plowing the street, they could pick up jobs doing driveways. We’re expecting 3-5″ on Friday, and 90% of my town will be plowed by private citizens in their own pickups. The big town plows will get the streets with route numbers. We don’t have garbage trucks. But when I lived in IL, our town used garbage trucks as plows. Worked great.

“They are coming after your kids!” warns a flyer for a New York state wide rally that will take place this coming Wednesday at The Capitol Building in Albany.

The rally will take place during Governor Kathy Hochul’s “State of the State” Address. Organizers say this event is expected to attract thousands.

Jealous of everybody’s snow stories. I grew up in the part of Michigan that doesn’t look like a mitten, far enough north that we could see the Northern Lights and it snowed from Halloween until April every year. Clearly the H Man and I are incompatible in terms of our habitual climate–he wants to visit the place but I know that this big strong man will keel over and die, frozen, on the spot, the moment he steps out of the airplane. I really miss the snow. The climate here is exactly like Western Oregon–it rains all the fucking time (September/October through June), my rosacea fucking hates it, I’m allergic to everything, and the asthma I never had at home is constantly flaring up.

Also, thank you to whoever recommended the Allan Carr books. I haven’t read the smoking one yet because I also bought the one about emotional/binge eating and IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE SO MUCH. This isn’t a diet (maybe later, but not now)–just my final effort to conquer this thing that has made me so miserable for so long, and whoever wrote the book is right. Read it, follow the instructions, and no willpower is required. I made a delicious chocolate cake the other day, my mother’s only good recipe. Had a small piece the first day. Three weeks ago I would’ve been into that thing for at least 1/3 of the pan once everybody fell asleep. Now? I’m not even interested. Even when I’m physically hungry! Even when hungry and alone in the house! Some kid finished the last piece of the cake this morning apparently (empty pan is in the sink) and, again unlike what would’ve happened three weeks ago, I’m not even irritated. It’s like that stuff doesn’t exist for me–or more accurately, is no longer living rent-free in my head–anymore.

As soon as I get through the book I’m starting on the smoking one.

All the commies on Twitter are peeing their pants with visions of the Trump family going to jail in a couple of days. But not one of them can tell you exactly what is their crime? What did they do in this business that has been audited a zillion times? A real American would not be happy with a NY DA who is on a witch hunt against a citizen, in fact ran on “getting him”. Sad country we have right now.

Btw, there is such a backlog (or log jam) in testing here in the land of Lincoln haters that the test I had yesterday morning, which should have been processed and reported by midnight, is taking 72 hours. I think some of this may be related to the testing that the Chicago Teachers (and other public schools) Unions demanded in order to re-open the schools here.

    • taw46 says:

I think it is like that everywhere. There have been long lines down here for testing.

      • taw46 says:

We have had a surge in cases, because we had huge number of tourists down here all of December. No masks and no social distancing. The good news is we only have around 10 COVID patients in hospitals down here. I think only one in ICU.

        • lyn5 says:

Our hospital has 11 with one unvaxxed in ICU. Only two out of 11 are vaxxed.

          • taw46 says:

I follow two of our local doctors on FB. They have been seeing lots of patients. They always say that the majority of the real sick ones are unvaxxed, and that those with the shots, especially the booster, hardly have symptoms. They will occasionally have a very ill vaxxed person, but say it is rare.

My family members and I were out in KW many times leading up to Christmas. Large crowds, we did not wear masks, nor did anyone else. We did have to wear them once, to go to a play. All three of us have had the shots and the booster. So, don’t know if that is keeping us safe or if we have just been lucky. 🤷🏼‍♀️ However, we chose not to go out NYE because it was jam packed downtown. We do have our limits, lol.

          • 1539days says:

Israel is on shot #4 now. Their infection rate is about the same as the US. However, the death rate is much lower. So, again, vaccination is a personal choice. The unvaccinated aren’t spreading the virus.

          • taw46 says:

Days, I have always said I think vaccination is a personal choice, I don’t believe in mandates. And I don’t think either side should accuse/insult the other, just do what is best for you. I don’t judge anyone. The doctors here aren’t blaming anyone, they are just stating the facts as they see them in their practice here in the Keys, that the unvaxxed have been sicker than the vaxxed. Maybe it is different in other locations.

          • elliesmom says:

Just anecdotal, but the only people I know who have had covid are all vaccinated, and the recent ones are also boosted. People who get covid after vaccine failure assure themselves their vaccinations have made their infection less serious, but the vast majority of unvaccinated people don’t get very sick, either.

          • lateblum says:

The vaccinated people I know who get sick – or know someone who gets sick look to someone who is unvaccinated to blame for spreading the illness. This is Chicago. It’s always someone else’s fault for everything.

I don’t want to hear a single word about a stupid riot until the establishment is held SERIOUSLY accountable for their Russia collusion spying hoax, 25th amendment plots, “Anonymous,” malicious leaking, impeachments, resistance, “illegitimate president” stuff they ran non-stop.

  31. taw46 says:

Bernie Kerik was on Greg Kelly’s show. He was given a waiver by Trump to testify as to what they found out about election fraud and improprieties. The Jan 6 committee wants him to testify privately, not publicly. So they can leak what the choose to, they don’t care about the truth.

    • taw46 says:

And Congressman Nehls was also on the program. Very good, questioning what has been withheld about Capitol Police. He said all they want to do is talk about Donald Trump, not what happened that day.

My granddaughter came up with a “life hack” – trick.
You know those faucets with sensors that give you a blast of water and then cut off? You’re left with soapy hands and fighting with the sensor to get the water to come on again.

My granddaughter wadded up a small piece of paper towel, just enough to trigger the sensor, but small enough to sit in front of the sensor. This caused the water to run continuously until we removed the little ball of paper towel.😊

Maybe some of you have already figured this trick out, but I hadn’t.

        • lateblum says:

The same here. I used to follow her as well. And just like you, I don’t recall why I stopped. Actually, after Biden cheated his way into the WH, I noticed a huuuge drop (for me) in my Twitter numbers. Both followers and people I was following. All very sudden and all without my knowledge. She might have been among those numbers.

          • taw46 says:

I seem to recall she was more like a NeverTrumper about Trump. I can’t imagine I would drop her just because she didn’t like him. I still follow redsteeze and he definitely was not a Trump supporter. Difference is, he went after the left and the NeverTrumpers, not the Trump supporters.

My sister listens to Nicolle all the time. And like Nicole, she trusts her government. Please. It is just terrible to see how my sister has changed so much these last 5-6 years.

      • lyn5 says:

I know what you mean. My sister always had a mean streak. It’s gotten worse, and I hate conflict. My sister bitched when her MIL took her husband out of her will. (Her third hubby is now an ex.) Because I’m not her true sister, she said she is taking me out of her trust. I told my sister I didn’t want her money. A friend reminded me that people who are obsessed with money think others are to. I never have been. I always had enough, even when I was poor.

Macron announced last night that the government intends to make our lives miserable until the bitter end and that we (the unvaccinated) are, in his view, “non-citizens.”

I have always managed to stay friends with people of differing political views, but it is going to be very difficult for me to forgive people who vote for this guy (and they will vote for him) at this point. Because we are one step away from the government encouraging violence against the unvaccinated.
