    Good Morning.

I just looked out the front door to see if there is any snow. My goodness! There sure is!

The white stuff is everywhere. It’s covering the grass, the ground, and the front steps. At least 3 or 4 inches have fallen so far. It looks so pretty for now. That will soon change.

It’s only 26 degrees outside, which will keep everything frozen for a while. According to the forecast, the snow will be falling for several more hours.

I’m glad I don’t have to go anyplace.

    • elliesmom says:

The snow is now up past Ellie’s belly. It doesn’t stop her. She just plows herself a path through it. Every couple of weeks I buy a big bag of bite-sized frozen meatballs to play catch outside with the dogs. Even in the snow she barks at me to throw meatballs to her. It’s hard to gauge where I should aim for because she can’t move as quickly through the snow. But she dive bombs through it and manages to find them even if she misses catching them. Hank usually likes to play, too, but this morning he’s standing 6″ from the door and is giving me a “just hand me the damn meatball” glare.

And for that he will spend years in prison. He did not assault officers, did not damage the Capitol. Did not participate in any violence. That’s our justice system now.

And it WAS funny, the whole clip. Which makes the sentence all that more ridiculous.

  3. Dora says:

I was wondering about this. Every time I see him on television, he looks skinnier. By now, he looks absolutely sick. I hope not.

Mike Pompeo tells The Post how he lost 90 pounds in six months

    • elliesmom says:

I think he looks great, and I bet he feels better, too. After one loses a lot of weight, picking up a load that weighs as much as the lost weight is a real eye-opener to the difference in the stress the extra weight puts on a person’s body.

    • taw46 says:

Wow, he looks like a different person. He looks great. Wish that would be an inspiration to Trump to lose weight. I would like him to be around for a long time, so would like to see him get healthier.

      • lyn5 says:

I worked on a wastewater treatment project, and the city director was a cute chubby man. Years later I was flying and a very handsome and slender man called out my name when we were walking from the plane. How does this handsome man know my name? I didn’t recognize him. He laughed when I told him what I was thinking.

    • Constance says:

I know, he doesn’t look jolly anymore. I like big men. He doesn’t look huggable anymore. I hope he is healthy. He looks like malnutrition caused by gut bypass.

      • Somebody says:

I thought bypass too. That’s a rapid weight loss for just diet and an elliptical in the basement you supposedly aspire to use 30 minutes a day. If he said he spends 3 hours a day on the elliptical and eats only carrots and celery then I’d say OK he lost 90 pounds in 6 months, not a regimen I’d want, but rock on.

Apropos of nothing and I know no1curr, but I am thrilled that among the H man’s other positive qualities, he is tall and rangy, exactly my type but it’s a type that is pretty rare here. The cuddly part comes from the scarf fuzz (a scarf that I knitted) that keeps getting stuck on his face every time he doesn’t shave, haha.

This looks like HEAVEN to me. I miss winter so much.

Fun little article about the UK’s 1921 census:

    • lateblum says:

I love winter, too. But, right now it is 1° here in Wokestan and I’m not going out until it reaches 10°. I’ll think of you (as I always do) when I pass Beth Emet. 💕

      • jadzia1971 says:

Awwww, thanks! I stayed inside this weekend. Technically it was about 40 degrees but it’s so wet that I just can’t ever get warm.

        • lateblum says:

IKWYM. I’ve started wearing my lightweight down jacket in the house. I have to put on a long down coat to go to the basement to do laundry. The only way to get there is using the outside stairs.

  5. There’s a moderately funny meme posted in a group I belong to on Facebook about the CDC discovering a new variant of an old disease called Gonorrhea Lectim. (Say it out loud if you don’t catch it right away.) While the person writing it had fun with it, the funnier part is FB slapped one of their links to get vaccine information on it.

    • elliesmom says:

When I come up with what the acronym “urfa” stands for instead of just being a typo, I’ll let you know.

      • Somebody says:

A city in Turkey? A type of chile pepper? As an acronym? My guess U (you) R (are) F (fuc*ing) A (awesome). Could be you are……insert an F and an A word that might fit.

If the U stands for a word…..unbelievable, unusual, unmistakable, unmitigated, unreal, unforgettable, unfortunate?

Scoop: Mike Pence’s team helping Jan. 6 committee

People in and around former Vice President Mike Pence’s office have been particularly cooperative as the Jan. 6 select committee focuses on what former President Trump was doing during the more than three hours the Capitol was under attack, sources familiar with the testimony tell Axios.

    • lyn5 says:

They will try to prevent Trump from running again.

      • swanspirit says:

Bingo, nailed it, spot on! This is all extreme campaign antics, disguised as government. But as seen from their continued incompetence, the D’s only know how to campaign. They don’t actually govern. They campaign and make money deals, while the people are stranded on highways, pay exorbitant prices just to survive, left to the mercy of criminals, robbed assaulted and shot and killed, sometimes by Democrats who pay little consequences.
But they do not want Donald Trump to run, and spoil they party.

      • DeniseVB says:

Wonder who they’ll run instead? I can’t think of a soul I’d get off my lazy ass and vote for.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

Every single government agency got covid funds and almost all of it has gone to nonsense projects. Very little to actually look at the spread or the reliability/accuracy of the data they they keep tossing about.

My weekly literature review for articles or study reports it takes me three times as long having to weed through all the crap. It is actually worse now that it was during lockdown because Joey and Gang have turned healthcare into an even bigger circus of woke natisness than Barry, VeeJay and Moo managed.

      • Woke Lola says:

Never let a crisis to to waste, amirite? So sorry ML.

        • Mt.Laurel says:

Or a crisis to help those who already have get more.

I will say I have done some technical assistance for health clinics and aging /ombudsman agencies for funding from covid grants for telehealth and other useful services so not all of it is being wasted on frivolous crap. However the dollar amounts are very small and it bugs me. when I see large blocks of monies going for vanity projects.

Yeah Stephanie was briefly in as press representative after Sarah H moved on. She hardly held any briefings that I remember. Sounds like a band of losers who read the room wrong and can’t figure out which ass to kiss. The one I’m shocked about is Ted Cruz. He just suicided himself with his comments on Jan 6th. He’s a lawyer and considers every word he says. Talk about reading the room wrong.

      • lateblum says:

Cruz didn’t help himself last night on Tucker Carlson, either. I doubt much of what he could’ve said would’ve been helpful, but what he actually did say, was really 🐂💩

    From Don Surber’s highlights today:

ITEM 7: PJ Media reported, “Thomas Edsall, one of the few decent contributors at the New York Times, published a valuable piece of journalism Wednesday on the sheer size of philanthropic commitment to left-wing “racial justice” measures. With nearly 3,000 words of interviews and assorted content, he explores how much money — nearly $25 billion it turns out — was donated by progressive elites to divisive racial endeavors after the May 2020 killing of George Floyd.”

I can. And that thought terrifies me. When I read what Sotomayor and Kagan and Breyer are saying in this current argument, I want to argue against their “blinded by ignorance” statements, myself.

      • elliesmom says:

Sotomayer is easily the stupidest justice in my lifetime. When there are only a few women who make it to the top of a field, we can’t afford for any of them to be less than the best. When the history books look back on the first woman to be Speaker of the House, hopefully the United States will be in a position where Pelosi will be recognized for the evil person she is, but she isn’t incompetent. Fortunately, at least Sotomayer isn’t the first woman on the Court and will end up with all of the justices whose names no one can remember. Kamala Harris, on the other hand, makes Sotomayor look like a genius.

Ellie and I may even get a walk later today if the sun finishes clearing the street. I don’t mind negotiating my way down the driveway wearing crampons, but I’m not fond of walking a mile or more in them. The temperature isn’t going above freezing until tomorrow so it will take a bright sun or a lot of traffic to completely clear the roads. “A lot of traffic” is unlikely on my street.

For me that was expected. The one that still has me reeling is Sotomayor saying she doesn’t see a distinction between state police powers and federal “police powers.” Then she went further and implied OSHA has police powers just by existing…

            Granny @gjfindley
I thought I heard that, too. We as a country are doomed when a Supreme Court Justice can’t distinguish between federal vs state powers especially in policing powers.

Updated totals confirmed to date countywide are 1084 residential structures destroyed and 149 residential structures damaged.
Updated totals confirmed to date countywide are 7 commercial structures destroyed and 30 commercial structures damaged.
Also, my granddaughter and her boyfriend have not been able to move back into their apartment yet, waiting for water to be turned back on and pilot lights to be re-lighted.

In addition, my daughter, granddaughter and her boyfriend are all sick and have tested positive for COVID, and all are fully vaccinated. I am pretty much just staying in my bedroom with my computer and TV and staying away from everyone.

    • Somebody says:

Oh my, sorry to hear that. You most likely won’t escape covid if you’re in the same house. The question is do they have omicron? If it’s omicron it’s milder and stays out of the lungs. It’s basically a bad head cold.

I wouldn’t mind getting omicron and gaining natural immunity. Covid isn’t going anywhere and I feel like we’ll all get it eventually. I’d rather have a mild case like omicron😉

In fact hubby and I have been out and about thinking surely we’ll catch this highly contagious omicron. We’re in Florida and according to the news almost everybody in Florida has omicron. Then I looked at the covid stats for our county, we had 11 cases last week. So my quest to catch omicron is a pig in a poke🤣 Even going to the big city down in Jax won’t really help, they had 246 cases out of almost a million people.🙄

      • Locked-N-Loaded says:

Yes, all of them have symptoms consistent with just a common cold; fatigue, headache, runny/stuffy nose and mild cough. I honestly believe the COVID tests cannot distinguish between COVID, the flu or the common cold.

        • Somebody says:

They can’t, it’s not your imagination. The CDC has admitted so.

        • cynic says:

We had our 5yr old granddaughters at our house 6 out of 9 days during Christmas vacation. On New Year’s Eve, we were notified that one of them tested positive for Covid, and the other one was at home with a fever (she tested negative 2x).

My husband and I prepared for getting sick. I made sure I was caught up with the laundry, the Christmas decorations were taken down earlier than I usually take them down, and there was cooked food in the refrigerator.

We both got sick on 1-2, and had identical symptoms! Severe fatigue, and fevers of 100.5. This continued for a couple of days. By day 3, we declared that we were both feeling pretty good!

I sure hope that was Omicron. I’ve had common colds that were 10x worse. Hubby has been double vaxxed (no booster yet) and I have not gotten any shots. I like the idea of natural immunity.

      • taw46 says:

      • Woke Lola says:

Let’s go to Miami! Surely they are burgeoning with the pestilence. 🤣

      • jadzia1971 says:

I am wondering why the hell I haven’t caught omicron, which I think of as nature’s vaccine. I have FIVE school-age kids, two of whom have been repeatedly kicked out of school because their classmates are “cas contact.” My housekeepers come in from an agency, so it’s literally a rotating cast of characters. My best friends in the neighborhood (triple vaccinated!) got it and we were spending a lot of time together right before their positive tests. My ex-husband, who works at the front desk of a hotel and sees strangers all day long every day, is over here all the time. The (unvaxxed) H man works and goes to school and spends time in the extremely unvaccinated neighborhood where his sister lives.

Either (1) this really has become a pandemic of the vaccinated; (2) I already have the antibodies; or (3) I’m a freak of nature with some weird natural immunity, just like with the chicken pox, to which I’ve tested immune (more than once) even though as far as I know (and confirmed by my parents), I’ve never had it–even after caring for my own kids when they got it.

Glad you and your family are safe. And yes, the tests really cannot really distinguish between variants let alone flu/cold//sinus and covid. Its more a yes you have something/nothing is showing.

Once again thanks for the heads up the actual areas where the fires were spreading. Our locals just kept saying Colorado and my cousins is in a senior apartment in Northglenn but her daughter’s family is in Broomfield. They did not have to evacuate but now have house guests and they brought the gift of Covid to daughter’s house so cousin has not seen them.

Cousin is a recent transplant and this was a very new experience for her. She lived almost 80 years in Pennsylvania and she was tickled that I figured out they were near the fires and called to check in because she was feeling a bit isolated and uneasy as the smoke was everywhere.

      • Locked-N-Loaded says:

Yes, those clouds of smoke spread out to the east for 75 miles and Broomfield was in a pre-evacuate warning for several hours until the winds died down. It was very scary and good of you to check on your family. Hope they have mild cases of Covid.
