Remember all the fuss about Melanie’s killing Jackie’s Rose Garden. LOL, she didn’t, it was time for a decades old refresh with Mel’s classy touches. Boo on those haters. Here’s the story from Aug 2020 on how it all went down. It’s wasn’t behind a paywall for me, hope it works.

The “then” pic they kept using was taken in spring when roses are not in bloom but bulbs are at their peak. And yes, people here did apparently not realize a lot of the colorful photos were of 🌷 not 🌹. It annoyed me to no end because “Jackie’s” rose garden was actually rather subdued in summer when the roses were the focal point. White roses tend to stand out better amidst all the green leaves and while dark red roses in large plantings can look dreary.

My fellow “co-techs” are either laughing or very angry with me because I pointed out we let lots of guys flash their penises at us for 5% of what his accuser got. As long as he’s not exposing himself to kids, I truly couldn’t care less. I don’t know any of us who were damaged, but getting laughed at was traumatic for some of the guys. 🙂

    • Anthony says:

Newsbuzz yesterday – this administration wants the WHO to be in charge of US emergency medical response. Anyone else hear about that?

      • elliesmom says:

Yes, Tucker Carlson had a long segment about it in the last few days. The WHO would decide what a “public health emergency” is, if there is one, what measures countries would have to take, how medications, supplies and services would be distributed, and what the media can report. There were some “opt outs” in the treaty, but Biden has deleted them. Tucker wasn’t speculating. He had actual quotes from the treaty “up on the board”. Biden is about to sign it in the next few days. It is a “treaty” so it will need 67 senators to sign off. That would take 17 Republicans who would like to spend more time with their families.

Bill Maher was an asshole for a long time, so it is nice to see him using common sense once again. The commie left has finally left him. Well, mostly. He is still with them on so much. But this segment was excellent.

      • DeniseVB says:

Maher seems to depise the fringe left as much as he does the fringe right. It’s best to listen to him without political bias because he does call out the goofballs on both sides. Now if only he’ll go after Biden like he did Trump….. or did I miss that one? 😀

Gas prices here are edging loser to the $5 marker for regular here in the outer ring of swampland. It cost me $45 for slightly less than a tank of gas the other other day for small sedan (so smaller tank). I was lucky as I paid only $4.79 at Liberty. On my way to and from the office yesterday most were at $4.89 and $4.99. Premium and Super/Premium Plus and diesel have already passed the $5 threshold. So over a 200% increase since PT left office not even 18 months ago.

    • Helen+Kenney says:

anywhere near a BJs wholesale grocery? I got an e-mail saying buying certain items will get you 75 cents a gallon off gas.

      • elliesmom says:

You not only need a BJs nearby. You also need one with a gas station. I can get reduced prices at the pump based on how much I spend on groceries every week, but the closest grocery store with gas pumps is out of state. Granted, in RI you don’t have to go very far to be out of state. 🙂 But I turn my gas discount in for money off my grocery bill instead. I don’t know if BJs gives that option or not.

        • Mothy67 says:

BJ’s always brings out the teen boy in me. I think that is how you get monkeypox. We have GetGo and perks. I do lots of shopping for my old lady friends. I can earn 20% off my groceries or 2 off gas. I opt for 20% a few times a month. I buy gift cards and get double points. Pup is at the age when everyone is driving. They go to movies and eat. I buy her/zir/zem gift cards with my Williams Sonoma card. Twice a year I get EM sexy kitchen shit. I got a 300 dollar Dutch Oven for free. I really don’t know what a Dutch Oven is. I pick up the snacks and water for events. School pays me before I go to Sam’s. I dont even stand in line. Just wave my card over UPC. I call aheadfor water. They have it ready. I charge it then go home and pay it with school or clubs moneybut I get 5%. I have charged 7 grand at the start of softball. Plastic ware, paper towels, soap seem to disappear off season.? What kind of person steals the tiny plastic cups you serve with a cheese pretzel. They are good for fake cheese and jello shots. Every spring they are all gone. Who steals from little league?

          • elliesmom says:

A Dutch oven is an “analog” crockpot. You can use it on top of the stove or in the oven. If it’s cast iron, you can use it over (or under) a campfire. You can cook anything you’d put in a crockpot. It’s one of my favorite pots. My scouts liked to dig a hole the size of the pot, lower the put into the ground, put some yummy dessert inside it, and then flip the lid upside down, and fill the lid with coals from the fire. Peach cobbler was their favorite.

          • Mothy67 says:

I forget what I paid or rather didn’t pay as I used points, but my pantry is open and it looks good. Kinda like the bookshelf outside my bathroom. I pick up the worst titles for that space. Any book I loved I give to someone, but for this blank space I buy Joanie loves Chachi photo albums. Funny I am no Warhol fan but I have bought the Diaries many times for like a buck at thrift stores. People steal it all the time. I tried to read it once. Ugh more boring than his “art”.

      • Mt.Laurel says:

I just looked an the price is $4.65 at the BJ in Northern Virginia that a lot of people in our office building use. but its another 15 miles (each way) in the wrong direction for me.

I get points with my grocery delivery and one other chain but those help more by offsetting the increased food prices, Using the points at Shell or Sunoco would just bring them down to the Liberty price.

Liberty still gives a cash discount so I think I actually paid closer to $4.69 but the total was sticker shock. I was prepared for say $40. The $45+ just hit harder. They are usually very busy as its known to one of the best prices in the area but Dan said his business is off – as is everyone’s. Although he did say he is getting less flack from customers than many. Its still an old fashioned station with mechanics and three bays for service.

Kindle is not letting me reply up stage. I started looking at monkeypox two days ago. It is ugly and has a scary name but is less transmissible than chickenpox. Right now we are seeing carry it to far corners. I would wager more people got herpes. Lisbon? Gay mecca. London. Are there straight Brits? It is gay chicken pox. Easily treatable and not life threatening. People will know at home and work if you entertain a penis. It has a 14 day incubation period.UK health officials have said you cant get it by sitting next to someone on the tube. I am sure as it spreads we are looking at a very “British Scandal”

I apologize. Monkeypox is not funny, no disease is but thus far it looks like it is an STD. Only gaymen are getting it. I feel awful for thinking what I think– what a hoot it would be to see rinos covered in pox.

    • elliesmom says:

Pretty much any disease could be transmitted through intimate sexual contact, but we don’t classify the common cold as an STD. Monkey pox has been around for a long, long time. There was an outbreak in 2003 large enough to make the international news. If I remember correctly, infected prairie dogs were the viral host. Contact tracing suggests the disease left the African continent carried by a gay guy this time, which would explain why the international outbreak is in that group, but there are other ways to get monkey pox. If the disease remains confined to the gay community, that would suggest the virus that causes it has mutated.

The US government already has enough smallpox vaccine stockpiled to inoculate every man, woman, and child in the US so this is fearmongering in preparation for the midterms. In any event. no matter what one’s sexual orientation, there’s no need to mask up or lockdown or take a vow of celibacy.

      • Mothy67 says:

EM if I get my shit together I owe you a big Thank You. I was at a funeral and this guy I had not seen in 40 years made us do a prayer circle. I stared at my mom’s ugly toes, but somehow kept my mouth shut. I did not tell him to fuck off. I wanted to.

      • 1539days says:

That smallpox vaccine will have a COVID vaccine chaser.
Not to be indelicate. but the mechanism of gay sex is most likely vehicle to transport a disease that requires fluid transfer. Also, monogamy is lower in gay men and higher in gay women, so gay men are usually the first to spread new diseases like this.Ultimately, everyone who could get it, will get it. This is what happened with COVID. Masking and vaxxing only shifted the timeline.

This could have been prevented by NATO making Ukraine a member years ago. However, the EU didn’t want to provoke Russia, who was supplying their countries with oil. Does anyone here watch any of the Chicago shows. I do some work online and need a background show. I rot somedays waiting for someone to contact me. I found Chicago Med. I thought wow this is perfect. Lordy it is the laziest thing I have ever seen. Every show is either a prego woman in jeopardy or someone needing a transplant. Every episode. I wonder if any person writing for the show has ever been to a hospital or to Chicago. To its credit it is not super woke but good God it may be the most boring thing I have ever seen. There is no jazz. Flat line. I don’t even pause if I leave the room. White people are a minority and flawed. I only know Chicago from weekend trips in the mid 80’s from Purdue and even 40 years ago that city was racially charged. The show never touches on that. I live in in a town littered with nurses. I kinda grew up in a hospital and my tenth grade dropout prego mom became a nurse. My niece is becoming a nurse practitioner. Health care is where the jobs are. I have 3 male cousins who are nurses. PA licenses an RN from a community college. Cost is under 5k for a two year program. LPN is 13 months. A CNA is six weeks. Starting salary is 60 thousand. Hospice advertisers on the bus offer 10 grand starting bonus.

  33. elliesmom says:

I don’t have my TV on unless I’m actually watching it, but there are a lot of shows suitable for background noise on FreeVee. If you didn’t watch them when they were first run on TV, you might like the two legal series, “The Practice”, a serious show, and it’s comedic spinoff, “Boston Legal”. “Law and Order: LA” is there. I liked “In Plain Sight” when it aired. Elliesdad loved “Scorpion” and “Leverage”. If you don’t have FreeVee, it’s a free add-on to Prime. It also has the continuation to Bosch.

    • Mothy67 says:

I love Boston Legal. I can make bank sitting and waiting. It is a number of things. One night I got from a reditt guy a suicide call. I had no skills. I just kept her talking. She stayed alive.
I have t-mobile which includes netflix and a year of apple and peacock. I am so bored with tv. I have been to medical detox. TV bores me.

      • elliesmom says:

A suicide hotline is a rewarding place to volunteer, and they provide a lot of training. Not the least of which is how to handle it when you fail. When I went through EMT training, they impressed upon us that only 5% of the heart attack patients will be alive when we got them to the hospital, and some of them will still die. It takes the ability to compartmentalize to do either job and be emotionally healthy yourself. One of my scouts volunteered at a teen suicide hotline. She said so many of the kids who called had issues that paled next to hers she was worried they’d convince her her own life sucked too much to live. But she said it with a chuckle, which is why she was really good at it.

I dont know if I have anything left to do rehab again. I love my brat. I dont want to hurt her, but i polish off two fifths a day. I hide and drink alone.

    • elliesmom says:

Medical detox is only one step in the rehab process. After the physical need for alcohol has been addressed, there is still a lot of work to do. Since just medical detox hasn’t worked for you, maybe it’s time for in-patient care that does more than just detoxify your physical body. Maybe it’s time for a longer stay? You don’t seem to be able to do it from home. At two fifths a day, you’re running out of time. You’re killing your liver and your kidneys. Shay isn’t blind. She can see what you’re doing. She’s already hurt. Maybe find out why you’re self-destructive. It’s not your mom who’s killing you.

      • Mothy67 says:

I trust you think I am not as dumb as a wet mop. I will go broke if I do anything beyond detox. It’s a thousand a day. I know two sometimes three fifths a day is suicide. I am not tortured by death. Sober I can’t do. I ask no one for anything. I watch dumb Chicago Med. They are always doing a trach. I remember having my throat sliced open. I can’t not remember some things.

There is only one way I can say this — Tim, rehab hasnt worked gor you because you aren’t ready to get sober.

Yes, you recognize you have a problem. You are a very bright, guy and on some level you understand how your drinking effects those you love and cherish most BUT…

You still believe you are smarter than your disease, and you believe you can get on top of it. I felt that way too, but i was so wrong.

It may be the hardest thing you ever do, but at some point you will have to surrender to the reality that you can’t outsmart your addiction. You can only recognize it for what it is, and pray for strength to overcome it. You can do it, but you have to WANT it. No excuses, none.

I wish you only the best Tim. I’m nowhere near as insightful as EM, but if you need to talk, I’m there. glherndon * at * gmail.

Hey, Tim! There are a lot of online rehab groups & podcasts around that are free and let you drop in or out. You can also pick your format…email, text, chat, audio, etc. No visuals if you don’t select it. AA Online has a list of the different formats and the group’s description of their approach. Also, there’s a free podcast, Recovery!, that’s out of Detroit. On Recovery!, you pay for archived or third-party audio, but the free content comes on every week (Tues.?) and is about 90 minutes. The good thing about these venues is that you can be a part of a group and yet not have to be “out there”. They always recommend in-person groups as a backup, but acknowledge the obvious truth that in-person groups aren’t for everyone (for example, if you’re in the Artic, you’re the spouse of a big person in a small place, etc. etc. etc.) I think there’s a lot more acceptance of and advice on relapses. Blessings on you, Tim.
