The Crawdad Hole 
Headed back to hot yoga today for the first time since the pandemic. I’ve been working out at the Y, but they aren’t as crowded, so it’s easy to distance. Going back to yoga is the last step to getting back to normal for me.
Of course, this class is ‘hot power flow’, so I may end up collapsing from other reasons, but I’m still looking forward to it 🙂

It went pretty well. I was able to do the basic flow (none of this ‘you can add a headstand here’) without taking extra breaks. I got sweaty, but didn’t need oxygen 🙂

I think it’s safe to say hiring by checked boxes does not get us the most highly qualified people for the job, and I’m being kind.

None of them are qualified. None. There are many more qualified people for those jobs, but they aren’t lunatic fringe enough.

Well, I *did* take a fun shot at Greta Thunberg. Article about her bitching about how hard her automobile commute to school is, so I said “Shouldn’t she be walking to save the environment?? HOW DARE SHE!!!

I have those “snark challenged” friends too, and the reason for my overuse of winky emoticons, lol.
Whenever I’ve had my account restricted, it’s been over some silly banter between my brother and me. It wasn’t a breach of the rules. I “offended” one of his any silly ass friends, and it got reported to FB. When it worked, they kept doing it. His loss because I stopped commenting on his feed, and the loss of our comedy show lost him followers. His feed is all but dead. Turns out his political views were not what a lot of people were going there to read. His job relies on his social media presence, but for me it was just fun to share our old dinner table debate
If you haven’t said anything that should attract a FB censor, either a robot one or a real person, then the culprit lies in your own friend list or on someone’s whose feed you’ve commented on. Someone flags one of your posts or comments, FB restricts your account automatically. You can ask them to have a person review it. Eventually, someone will, but by then the restriction period is past. The real issue is if they keep doing it the restrictions get longer and longer. My brother refused to act so I did the only response under my control.
I left FB after a seven-day restriction. On Twitter, I create new accounts with new emails from proton.me. I can have 10 email addresses on the paid version.
The establishment, sort of uniparty, but mostly Dem, media are completely worthless. There is no journalism happening. All activism, promotion, and propaganda. Pravda in action.
And Dem voters are easily brainwashed.

Yes! It is festive and sweet and beautiful. It almost looks like a Christmas card.
It looks like a lovely place, but I’m confused by the snow mounds. I’m not being facetious, I genuinely am perplexed. Is it normal to pile up snow like that? Isn’t that a street? Perhaps pedestrian traffic only? Because if it’s a street cars drive on it looks hazardous. I thought snow was either removed or pushed to the side to clear streets.
I freely admit I have no familiarity with snow or the fine art of snow clearing.
It’s a pedestrian walkway, and there’s no way to completely remove the snow so it gets pushed into piles. On a road or a driveway, it would get pushed to the sides, but here it would block the entrances to the shops. They often do the same thing in parking lots. Pick a couple of places and push the snow into big piles there.

Yesterday was one of the best days ever. My two granddaughters arrived Saturday night surprised me. They stayed overnight and went home last night. We went and saw the manatees. had a great dinner by the water. Just had fun all day. I have the greatest grandkids and love them so much.
PS it was a spur-of-the-moment trip for them. My one granddaughter got a great deal on Frontier airline. Called the other one and said let’s run away to Florida and see grandmom. So they did.

I’ve been thinking a bit about our conversation last night. When you teach science (and also history) you encounter things we call “private universes”. A private universe happens when people develop their own explanations for what and why things happen. Those explanations become so ingrained it can be next to impossible to dislodge them. A famous example of that happened at a Harvard graduation. Twenty-five random graduates and faculty members were interviewed and asked why the Earth has seasons. Twenty-three of them said it’s because the Earth is closer to the sun in the summer and farther away in the winter. With no science training at all, these people should know that couldn’t possibly be the reason because when it’s summer in the northern hemisphere, it’s winter in the southern, but they hold on to that idea in spite of being highly educated people. The reason we have seasons is taught in every middle school in the country. I can attest to when I taught astronomy in high school, it was rare for any of my students to be able to tell me why. Although I went to great lengths to demonstrate the real reason, I would bet most of my students eventually went back to their own private universe.
The problem we have right now politically is so many people have created their own universes. It won’t matter if Musk reveals how much collusion there is between the Democrats and the media, or if the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop are plastered all over any organization that will print it. People who already believe those things will have their beliefs reinforced. People who live in a different universe will continue to refuse to believe it. There may be a few people along the margins who can be persuaded, but they will be rare. What discourages me is there is no emotional component to accepting a different reason than what you believe about why we have seasons, and yet people refuse to internalize the truth. How in the world do we get people who are all emotionally tied up in their politics to accept they are wrong? Because we have to.
I fear we won’t be able to.
Step one is to laugh at them, imo.
