Unfuckingbelievable:

Obama Skips National Security Meeting on Russian Invasion of Ukraine

President Obama had no public events on his schedule today, yet skipped a meeting of his national security team at the White House today as they huddled over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Seen leaving the meeting at the White House were Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, and CIA Director John Brennan.

Vice President Joe Biden reportedly joined the meeting via videoconference, while Obama was briefed later by National Security Advisor Susan Rice.

There was no word from the White House on whether Obama would issue any statement.

There are no words . . .

Actually there are a lot of words but I am too disgusted to sit here and type them out.

“Others….. say ….. their views (n)ever get past the political gatekeepers to the ….. candidate,”

The most important decisions an aspiring candidate make’s are who will comprise his staff AND how will they keep him fully informed? Delegating too much authority to self-important underlings is an eternal pitfall, sinking many quality candidates. In this one area of campaigning for office Obumbles is, or at lease was, supremely competent.

You know, I don’t really fault Russia for ruthlessly looking out for her own interests. I just wish someone was doing the same for ours.

    • 49erDweet says:

One would hope some Ukrainians are pragmatic enough to realize the threat, and quickly take steps to reassure the Bear her interests will be protected by the new government. Because if that isn’t in fact gonna happen, this will be the world’s second shortest revolutionary administration.

  5. wmcb says:

Okay, some of the stupider neocons are red-scaring. No, honey, you’re wrong. The only real communists left are in Europe/USA/Latin America and the West.

      ********
Seemed to be a theme at the Olympic ceremonies, with a lot of Czarist era “nostalgia”.
Russian Olympic uniforms often had prominent display of the Czarist Imperial eagle and the current Russian flag is the Peter the Great Imperial flag. The Ruskies have long memories and they are still pissed that the West doesn’t give them credit for kicking the shit out of the WWII German army.

      • wmcb says:

I noticed that. People on Twitter were claiming that the ceremonies “glorified” the communist era, and I was going, “WTF??!! Are they watching the same thing I am? Do they not get artistic symbolism at all?”

The Czarist era was portrayed as rich, cultured, colorful, artistic. The Soviet era was portrayed as very flat and harsh and monochrome and mechanistic. As failed hubris. The contrast was obvious. If the opening ceremonies were “saying” anything, they were saying “Let’s go back to our historic Russian identity”, not “Let’s go back to the Soviet identity”.

    • Propertius says:

Historically, the Russians have been interested in two things:
      1) A secure food supply, and
      2) access to warm water ports

      They’ve recently added:
      3) Total control over the natural gas supply to Europe

This is straight-up, 19th Century “Great Game” stuff: nobody gives a damn about ideology. It’s all about empire now.

Richard Fernandez, proprietor of The Belmont Club, recently wrote of progs:

”It is a mistake to imagine the Left is about making the future. It’s real business is continuously remaking the past.”

Remaking the past. Changing history. So as to alter its interpretation.

IMO the intrinsic value of the TCH culture is the ability of Klown and the Krew to burrow deeply into the rabbit hole of history, recover odd bits progs would rather leave undisturbed, and repost them boldly on the interthingy even when their reality is inconvenient to the hierarchy.

When TehOne was chairman of one of the Senate foreign affairs committees, It never met – – – ever. That seemed to work out just fine for him. He just doesn’t see the value in making a meeting. He’s got a phone and a pen.
The word that comes to my mind today is impeachment – or arrest.

  13. wmcb says:

We have fucking idiots as the “elites” of our country. Putin? IMPULSIVE? Irrational? The European tweeps are laughing their asses off. Putin is icy as they come – a chess player. There’s not an emotionally impulsive bone in his body.

    • Lulu says:

This reaction is bizarre. They are lying. A lot of people saw this coming and understand exactly what Putin is doing. This is ass covering for this administration and their complicity in enabling the foreign policy clusterfuck. Shameful.

    Via AofSHQ:

Op-eds from all over the legacy press this week helped explained why. Through the rose tinted lenses of a media community deeply convinced that President Obama and his dovish team are the masters of foreign relations, nothing poor Putin did could possibly derail the stately progress of our genius president. There were, we were told, lots of reasons not to worry about Ukraine. War is too costly for Russia’s weak economy. Trade would suffer, the ruble would take a hit. The 2008 war with Georgia is a bad historical comparison, as Ukraine’s territory, population and military are much larger. Invasion would harm Russia’s international standing. Putin doesn’t want to spoil his upcoming G8 summit, or his good press from Sochi. Putin would rather let the new government in Kiev humiliate itself with incompetence than give it an enemy to rally against. Crimea’s Tartars and other anti-Russian ethnic minorities wouldn’t stand for it. Headlines like “Why Russia Won’t Invade Ukraine,” “No, Russia Will Not Intervene in Ukraine,” and “5 Reasons for Everyone to Calm Down About Crimea” weren’t hard to find in our most eminent publications.

[T]his massive intellectual breakdown has a lot to do with a common American mindset that is especially built into our intellectual and chattering classes. Well educated, successful and reasonably liberal minded Americans find it very hard to believe that other people actually see the world in different ways…. American experts and academics assume that smart people everywhere must want the same things and reach the same conclusions about the way the world works.

How many times did foolishly confident American experts and officials come out with some variant of the phrase “We all share a common interest in a stable and prosperous Ukraine.” We may think that’s true, but Putin doesn’t.

Off topic but I am suddenly in need of a doctor and I still have no insurance. I can not stop eating. had 14 fish tacos and a pound of muenster cheese two boxes of farfalle and I am still hundry. Three days of it and I lost 3 pounds. Feel like I am trapped in an episode of the x files. About to devour a carton of butter pecan ice cream

I do not gain weight. Never have. I can eat whatever I want. As a kid it was a nightmare and winters still suck. 47 and I have not one pound on me . I never go near sweats because sugar makes me feel like shit. One sip from a Jim beam and my face goes bright red. Neon red I get drunk from fumes.

Seems I’ m okay. Drinking skim milk to stop the stomach pains. Working very well. Got some blood work back this morning. Everything is normal. Six months ago I was shopping fot a liver and kidney. Now even my INR(clotting) is a robust .8. Creatine and bilirubin low normal. Not even elevated. Went to the hospital that owns my insurance company so should be interesting when they bill me They wanted to admit me but I refused. Couldn’t get a specialist in but on a Sunday morning they managed to get a social worker. They will billme based on my income. Which for 2013 was a whopping 7 grand. ALL interest. I had given a credit card in the emergency room and it posted a one dollar charge that was then refunded.

It is good. UNFUCKING belevably good. A meld score is used to determine getting an organ. Goes to 40 The higher the number the greater the need. Very high scores work against you because at that point lots of other things are going wrong. Iwas at 28 today I do not even register. I was in the hospital on a monitor with a catheter and IVs out the wazoo. Alone and naked with fecal matter running out of my body. I simply said enough. Not the way I was gonna check out. Stopped all meds and in two weeks I went from 236 pounds to 138. I was so very sick but my brat forced me to get up every day. No way in hell I was going to leave her feeling sorry for me. I owe her more. When my body was really breaking down I had a blood vessel burst on my finger. It was like a horror film. Just shot blood way into the air. We laughed so hard. That is what I want to leave her with
