Ahh, geraniums. Thanks Denise, reminds me of my mother and pots of geraniums sitting on her porch. Mostly red. 😊
When you mentioned that the other day, I went on a search. My favorite flower too, maybe because they’re so forgiving 🙂 We had them in our So.Cal. yard, they grew like bushes, so pretty year round. Poinsettas were small trees, but no surprise since they’re native to Mexico.
So sweet of you to look for geraniums! I’ve never seen them down here. When we lived in central Florida we had them, but they didn’t last as long as when we lived in the Carolinas. I would love to see the poinsettia trees. We had a neighbor (central FL) who planted one outside, and it had the perfect location, grew to be a beautiful bush. I’ve never seen one down here, seems like they would grow here. We still have one in a pot that is doing well, maybe we should try to plant it.
My search turned up some beautiful trees …. in Tanzania 🙂 I don’t think they caught on that much in the US because they’re toxic to pets? It would be fun to plant one in part of the yard the pups can’t get too and see how she does.
I didn’t think about them being toxic. Is that true? Our dogs have never bothered any of our plants, I think it would be ok. There is one part of the yard they rarely go into, that would be a good place.
Not all varieties are poisonous to pets. I think the ivy geraniums (with those thicker glossier leaves) are on of the ones they say to watch but I have always had pets and all types of geraniums and none have any shown any interest at all.
I often buy little Gerber daisy plants (safe for kitties) at the store as they are less expensive than kitty grass/fresh cat nip and you can enjoy the flowers for a while before the cats chomp them down to the roots (although the cats love the petals too). Have to place them up high as the cats sense when you bring them in the house and come running for a treat. They do the same if you have fresh mint but ignore say impatiens or carnations. So most must have some sense of yes/no/truly yummy in the tummy.
Ans I now have another pic in rotation on the computer. Along with hydrangea, they make me smile as I work. Thank you!🌺
