Buffoon Juice:
by Zandar
It’s finally happened: somebody’s managed to penetrate David Brooks’s neutronium denial shield and impress upon him that the American economy isn’t so hot for the proles at the Applebee’s salad bar, and all that manages to come tumbling out is that Both Sides Do It.
Here’s a dose of reality for Zandar – the proles can’t afford Applebee’s.
This post should be titled “Unintentionally revealing” because it reveals a lot about Zandar.
Applebee’s is as far down the ladder he can imagine.
Brooks cites from Charles Murray’s new book, and Murray may be sourcing from this book Red Families v Blue Families from two years ago. The coastal creative class useful idiots in the blogosphere seem to be bashing Brooks’ column today. What are they so afraid of, besides their own bourgeois guilt about not being all that progressive after all when it comes to the economy.
What’s the thing about Applebee’s? Does that signify working class now or something? Gawd, that is out of touch. McDonald’s is having a booming year right now. Applebees is too darn expensive.
Besides, I’ve already been accused of being one of those uncool kids that hangs out at Dunkin Donuts. Tell the Starbucks crowd to try and keep their fast food references consistent.
Applebee’s doesn’t even have a salad bar – shows how much Brooks knows.
LOL. Good point. Bar and tables. That’s it. Clearly not only is that as far down the ladder this guy can imagine, but even then he has no idea what he’s talking about.
Ah. That should be “shows how much Zandar knows”. After taking the time to read Brooks column I see that he didn’t reference Applebee’s.
Bobo ain’t too bright neither.
I just went to Applebee’s for the first time today. Does that make me high class or low class. I enjoyed the food
Since I have never been to Appleby’s I went online to look at their menu. What a user-hostile website! Everything kept jumping around and nothing would hold still. The few things I could find a price on seemed rather expensive though perhaps well worth the price. I could find no evidence of a salad bar, let alone a complete all-you-can-eat buffet. My feeling based on memory is that Big Boy (which around here would be Elias Brothers Big Boy) is more affordable and they have an all you can eat salad bar besides. And soup.
David Brooks has been referred to as a ” one schtik phoney”. He will say anything to divert attention away from the Economic OverLords who pay him very very well to write for the New York Times.
Has he ever written about where he eats?
