Happy Freaking Valentine’s Day

If you are married or have a girlfriend (or both), today is one of the most important days of the year. If you are a single and unattached male, it’s just another Friday. I did learn one thing from my VD experiences – Never buy extravagant gifts early in a relationship (which is when you are most likely to be tempted to do so) because you will be expected to meet or exceed that level every year.

Oh, yeah – one more: Never give your woman power tools on Valentine’s Day.

This is another lazy open thread.

I want a woman who looks at me the way Ben looks at Barack. Or like Barack looks at Barack.

We don’t do Valentine’s anymore (our love is eternal, also it saves me from having to figure out something to get him), but one year, mr.mir gave me a bouquet of yarn skeins and a candy box filled with lottery scratchers. That was fun πŸ™‚

    • elliesmom says:

I got boxes of marble tiles one year because it’s what you buy at the “floorist”. Hidden away under the tiles was a contract for the builder to install heat under them next to the shower. Best Valentine’s Day present ever.

    • DeniseVB says:

We’re very non-traditional romantic (I expect to be treated like every day is Valentine’s, Mother’s or any other Hallmark holiday πŸ˜› ). I got a bouquet of red camellias clipped off our neighbor’s bush and a leftover cookie from last night’s poker game. The tradition continues πŸ˜€

I tell hubby same, treat me like everyday is VD, because if you don’t then there will be no Valentine around here πŸ˜‰ Mother’s day, forget about it πŸ™„ I wouldn’t know what to do if I was wished Happy Mother’s Day, might be the end of me, instant heart attack πŸ˜‚

Mother’s Day is spent taking care of my mother and appropriately kissing her ass, and no matter what I do it is never enough or good enough. To this day I hear about every disappointment through the years, the time he steak was overdone, the time the waiter took too long to refill her drink πŸ™„ My siblings ditch, every year and leave me to “take care of” Mother’s Day. Even though it’s usually my anniversary weekend and for a decade I was the only one with kids…….not that I’m bitter about it. 😜

This year hubby surprised me with a card, candy and a sappy love letter at 6am. Boy do I look like a bitch, here’s some red hots in a tube with a heart on top from the dollar store 😏

The anniversary of our engagement is on the 28th, and ED went all out for that. He said our wedding anniversary was a day for everyone else, but the engagement was for us. On the 28th I got the roses, the jewelry, the fancy dinner out. But Valentine’s Day was just for fun. He always had something silly to give me and dinner was usually at home and comfort food, not fancy. He said it was a night to be grateful he didn’t need to look for a date. We’d pick a movie one of us would like and the other could have fun making fun of. One year it was “Bridges of Madison County”, and he spent the entire evening suggesting what guy could show up at the door and get me to leave with him. He decided it would be Tom Selleck because if it was Clint Eastwood, I’d miss the mustache tickle kisses too much. Facebook has reminded me I’ve made deep dish pizza for Valentines’s Day dinner on more than one occasion, and it sounds good so I’m going to make some pizza dough.

        • Somebody says:

I detest going out for dinner on Friday or Saturday nights when it’s NOT Valentine’s Day. No way we’re going out, but I have filet mignon and all the trimmings to cook. Many moons ago I used to make everything heart shaped on Valentine’s. Some things were a major PIA, and then one day I decided it just wasn’t worth it.

Renting a movie sound good πŸ€” There isn’t much playing right now at the theater AND it will probably be packed.

Tom Selleck, used to have such a crush on him! If he showed up at my door though it would probably be to get me to take out a reverse mortgage πŸ˜‚

    A bit of history.

This was not a very happy Valentine’s Day for Mr. Roosevelt. I don’t know how he got through it.

    ===

Theodore Roosevelt’s wife and mother die

Future President Theodore Roosevelt’s wife and mother die, only hours apart, on February 14, 1884.

Roosevelt was at work in the New York state legislature attempting to get a government reform bill passed when he was summoned home by his family. He returned home to find his mother, Mittie, had succumbed to typhoid fever. On the same day, his wife of four years, Alice Lee, died of Bright’s disease, a severe kidney ailment. Only two days before her death, Alice Lee had given birth to the couple’s daughter, Alice.

  4. helenk3 says:

strawberries – washed , cored and dried
Phila brand cheesecake filling mix (walmarts)
    graham cracker crumbs
    chocolate candy melts
tiny bit of oil to thin melted chocolate

    prepare strawberries
combine graham cracker crumbs and cheese cake mix. just a little crumbs
    fill strawberries with mixture
    spoon melted chocolate over strawberries

inexpensive, tastes good, and something you can do together if you want to do so.

    Happy Valentines Day

They’ve got to start prosecuting these bozos to send a message to the other bozos, violence will not be tolerated…..ever. This is happening too many times now, even a guy got sucker punched for wearing a red hat (not a MAGA hat).

Of the list of people who were communists, hated this country, and influenced Obama, they left out one of the most important ones, his mother.

    • taw46 says:

You have to admit, the left is good at what they have been doing for decades. The GOP didn’t do anything to call them out on it for years. Until PDJT showed up.

“….In his book Rules for Radicals, Alinsky wrote this: β€œThe despair is there. It is now up to us to rub raw the wounds of discontent and galvanize them for radical social change.” The radical change to which he referred is the takedown of America’s free-market capitalist economy and its two-party constitutional democracy. In keeping with Lenin’s observation that a lie told often enough becomes the truth, Alinsky taught Democrats that the most effective way to defeat Republicans is to relentlessly slander them as racists……”

President Trump has the right to express his opinion and share his views with The People, the American electorate, who put him into office. The President may do so in any form, manner, venue, method or presentation that fits his needs.

    • If Obamsa had given pressers like that the media would have oohed and ahhed and said: “Obama tells it like it is!” If Obama called a reporter an enemy of the state the reporter would have apologized and still been fired anyway.

      • taw46 says:

They supposedly can’t take any luggage or carry-on, or all of it, that’s what the other person is referring to – no overhead bins. But Matthew’s main concern, he feels he and his wife are fine. Just don’t want to be placed on a plane with others who may be sick. And his quarantine is about 4 days from ending, he doesn’t want to go into another 14 day quarantine. I can understand, but still think I would rather go home.

Marlboros are still about $6/pack in Virginia, man, I could drive up with a few cartons and sell “loosies” on the street πŸ™‚ Black market must be quite lucrative up there, probably cheaper to buy weed.
