If Obama Has Lost Vox . . .

Seriously:

Obama’s love of the “Yemen model” sums up his disastrously shortsighted foreign policy

On Wednesday, a mere day before Yemen’s monthslong crisis collapsed into such chaos that rebels ran the president out of the country, and several days after US special forces had fled the country themselves, the White House did something it has been doing for some time: it publicly hailed the Obama administration’s “Yemen model” as a success in fighting terrorism.

The White House has been widely mocked for patting itself on the back for its Yemen strategy at a moment when swaths of the country are controlled by Shia Houthi rebels allied with deposed dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh, and when Saudi and Egyptian forces are threatening to invade and turn this into a regional war. But it’s no coincidence that the White House has been praising its “Yemen model” right up until the moment of the country’s near-total collapse. (And that chaos, by the way, is great news for the al-Qaeda affiliate that is based in southern Yemen.)

The Obama administration’s approach to Yemen has all along exemplified some of its worst foreign policy instincts in the Middle East: treating drone strikes and armed proxies as the solution for everything, finding short-term solutions to long-term problems, and refusing to deal seriously with the underlying issues that keep creating crises in the region.

But this model failed in Yemen — just as it has failed, and will continue to fail, in the rest of the Middle East.

There is a bunch more if you want to read it.

I can sum up the main problem with Obama’s foreign policy in one word: “Hubris”. That’s the main problem with his domestic policy too. His whole administration suffers from it.

I know you are shocked. “Obama has hubris? Whodathunkit?”

Modern “big government” liberalism (aka “Progressivism”) is based on the premise that everything can be controlled and manipulated to produce the desired outcome. Whenever it fails it is because they didn’t have enough information and/or enough power. So they demand more information and more power so they can try again.

Obama thinks he can control things. When he can’t, he blames everything but himself. It never occurs to him that his premise is flawed. So lather, rinse, repeat.

Yemen is like this whole other country and stuff. It’s small, which makes it a tempting target for manipulation and control. But control is an illusion and Obama is an idiot.

Frankly, we would have been better off with an isolationist POTUS running things. Obama has just made everything worse.

And Hillary helped.

Kerry seems to be seeking an A+ in signing paper and I really think he expects to be drafted to fill the presidential nominee void when Hillary is finally finished off by the Obots leaks. He is only a few years older than Hillary and the rest of the old farts on the Democrat presidential list.

      • swanspirit says:

Even if Kerry doesn’t expect to be president, he has his “legacy” tied up with Obama, and that is what they are thinking . The Hubris is strong in that one too . They are thinking more of themselves, and how they will look , than they are of the people and the country .

        • Constance says:

Kerry already looks like a completely incompetent fool, signing this agreement will make him look dumber if that’s even possible. I think Iran is playing with him to see just how foolish they can make Kerry and Obama look.

Here we go again, military as pawns and threats to cut retirement pay by 20%. How about we start with the President’s retirement, then the rest of Congress’ too ? Or just across the board 10% cuts to every federal agency ? Our big bloated government would probably function better getting rid of all the worthless deadwood and redundant agencies too. /rant

Why would a President commute the sentences of 22 drug dealers ? Just curious, barely makes a dent in the prison population and wondering how many hundreds of live these guys destroyed before they were sentenced?

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/03/31/president-obama-grants-commutations

    • mothy67 says:

“Had they been sentenced under current laws and policies, many of these individuals would have already served their time and paid their debt to society,” Neil Eggleston, counsel to Obama, wrote in a White House blog. The “commutations granted today underscore the President’s commitment to using all the tools at his disposal to bring greater fairness and equity to our justice system.”

Only non-violent offenders eligible. No gang ties. Had to have completed a % of sentence.
I kinda agree on this one. Hope the police keep close tabs on them though.

      • DeniseVB says:

Thanks for the info, I do feel better they’re not violent, except maybe when they get home and find the guys who ratted them out 😛

    • Myiq2xu says:

Most drug dealers are users who sell dope to finance their own drug habits. With the draconian laws against drugs out there they end up facing life sentences for relatively low-level dealing. The cops ask to buy large amounts and the dealers end up getting fucked for trying to make a big score. They usually aren’t major traffickers.

      • Constance says:

Here is an idea for states. Legalize pot so you can stop spending taxpayer money on catching and housing the dealers, certify what people are buying, drive out cartels, be sure its only sold to adults, and tax all sales.

I’m listening to news radio while getting ready to leave work. I have to say the election campaigns of Rahm and Jesus are getting more and more interesting. Now, Emanuel’s campaign is accusing Garcia of a relationship with 2 Latin King gang members. They are also accusing Garcia of having no financial plan for Chicago. (He probably doesn’t as I don’t think he thought this election through. And he most likely never considered he would be in this run-off.) Seriously, I don’t like Emanuel one tiny bit, but I’d be compelled to vote for Rahm if I were a Chicago resident. I think if Chicago foolishly elects “Chuy”, the city will face even greater problems.
